This was my first year working the beet harvest. I was in the Drayton yard and lucky enough to have the morning shift. The weather was incredible. It definitely is an experience!
Boy I could really see the pain in your face for Lefty why you talk about him hurting his toe in real time it always hits me hard whenever my dogs get injured
From flood rains, to nails cut to the quick, to tiny tricycles,, w/ the beautiful fall motif throughout the homestead, we have been given a nice part-1 of your 2023 Beet Harvest experience… Thank you Mr. Campulance Man …
It's very hard to watch lefty in pain 😢 and you looked upset aswel dave. But glad he's back to normal now in November. Thanks for taking us with you both on your suger beat journey 🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑🚑✌️🤟👍😁🐕🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
Potato harvest was awesome this year. My brother and brother in law drove trucks hauling potatoes and when done they hauled corn. They are done now for the season. They both are in the 70's and the 13/14 hour days were hard but they made it.
So anyways, I'm trying to tell you a story and he won't let me.😂 SO adorable. Lefty's like, can Bear come out and play. Jeff opens the door. Bear proceeds to trick or treat.❤😂
Thank goodness that vet was there to help. I get that way with an injured animal too. I am curious what Lefty was doing while you were working. I`m sure you planned things out.
Missed you glad to see what you experienced and what a great educational opportunity. I had no idea about sugar beets as I thought all sugar came from Hawaii
Lefty, Lefty, Lefty what are we going to do with you buddy. I do think in the beginning of this video he was saying, Why do you humans have to have coffee in the morning? 😂😂😂 Finally glad to see this beet process. Good to see you both and Bear too. ❤❤❤
well it's good to see ole Lefty moving all around. I was hoping you kept him out of the water. My first thought was water moccasins...but I remembered what you said.. no snaked up that way.😊
Hi Dave, glad to hear Lefty is doing better and will soon return to his normal 4 wheel drive mode. Looking forward to part 2. I love beets and it's quite interesting to see where they come from and I'm certain we will see the whole process. I hope you grabbed a few to boil up for yourself, nothing better than fresh beets with some butter and salt and the beet tops can be boiled up to make a tasty sweet green veggie that kind of has the texture of cooked spinach. Hope the both of you stay safe and looking forward to part 2. Give Lefty and Bear a treat for me and hope to see you real soon.
Come on, dad, don't go tell everyone I stuck my face in a poison oak bush 😂 That was some heavy rain! Glad Lefty fully recovered, poor pup I bet that hurt alot! That was a beautiful fishing spot. Bet Lefty misses all the grass there. How's the weather out in Quartzsite? Got down to 27 here last night. I really hope this is my last winter in the NE..
Hello David. You had great weather. I am about 250 miles SE of where you were. We got 3 inches of snow on Halloween. That was nothing compared to the storm of 1991 when I think the storm total was 31 inches on Halloween. Few people know this but the storm in the movie The Perfect Storm with Mark Wahlberg and George Clooney was the same storm. That sucker went from the middle of the Dakotas all the way in the Atlantic ocean. Funny thing is it all melted and we got just a little smaller amount of snow over the Thanksgiving holiday. Sure glad that first bunch melted. Looking forward to part 2 and glad you made it to Quartzsite and can recover. I have heard the harvest is a ton of work and long hours.
That was so sad to watch seeing Lefty hurting 😔 I’m so sorry! obviously it was rough on you too! It’s always difficult with our pets, because they can’t tell us anything. Some farm area vets are no joke, all business no fuss get it done in my experience. I’m just glad it’s all behind you now and you made it safely to Quartzsite 😊👍 Let the unwinding begin 😂
This has been a rough start for Lefty. Now that you're back in Quartzsite you look better. This was an incredible feat of work you undertook. Enjoy the money, haha. Bear is so sweet. Thanks for the great video. So happy to see you and Lefty on the YT again.
The beet harvest reminds me of my summers working in Alaska for the Salmon season -- get in and work 12-18hr days, 7 days/wk for a few weeks, then get out and sleep for a 2 days straight to recover. Of course that was in my 20's, not sure would stand it for even a week now. :)
I didn't realize MN was so flat. That truck with the flowers, etc was really pretty. Poor Lefty, guess he's all over it by now but it must have been painful. I wonder how many tons of beets are harvested there.
My daughter was in the same camp ground during the 2023 sugar beet harvest red ford truck and white cargo/camper conversion. If you need a onan generator for your rig I have one I salvaged from a RV it’s yours no charge
Yes! She was parked on the other side of the road about 30' from us :) I wish I had space for an onboard Onan - I'd take that in a minute if I did. Thank you for that offer :)
The sugar beet harvest seems like a great way to make a lot of money in a short time but boy is it grueling!! Whew! Thank for sharing that. My heart went out to poor Lefty -- he's such a daddy's boy, it's really hard for him to be alone for so long while you're working. His breed has such separation anxiety. I don't need to work the harvest and next year, if you're interested (and if the harvest would allow), I would be happy to barter with you to come out and keep the sweet boy company while you work. (I got my rig yesterday!! Wasn't able to find an ambulance but got an extended shuttle bus with the Ford 7.3L Powerstroke diesel engine. Hope to be hitting the road late July.)
@@TheCampulanceMan Thanks!! How long you gonna be in the NE? Would you be open to me hiring you to help with some of the build -- like installing a fan or solar?
I met a man who is a friend of yours , worked with you at the the beet harvest. He just arrived in Q a few days ago. Has a popup tent and a girlfriend named Vanessa. Speaks highly of you! They are in the space next to me.
Sorry to hear about Leftys nail, but I imagine Lefty got his nail caught in the window cell 😮 when he jumped out, but I'm glad you got him taken care of.
Thank you for your videos. Noticed your fur baby gets wrapped around things. May I give you advice that will save you from untangling? Didn't take long with my assistance and saying go around for my baby to learn that just saying go around go around. LoL. Just a thought. Safe travels.
I just went through the same thing with my similar size dog (77 lbs). $300 later... The vet anesthetized her, cleaned it well, cut and polished all her nails very very short, 5 days pain killers, and 14 days antibiotics. I feel it was my fault for not keeping her nails short enough. She now is fine.
You are a good daddy (as am I). Not placing blame in your case, but I certainly take the blame for my little girl. She broke the nail when she caught it on the edge of my shoe! I felt horrible and though she is very difficult to trim nails, I will seek outside help every few weeks! @@TheCampulanceMan
You can make an appointment and take dog to a vet clinic, it can wait until you have down time. Dog is fine. You have to work, you need the funds in your bank.
Hi David and Lefty. Happy to see you made it back to Quartzite. Glad Lefty is doing better. I never noticed before but there was a segment in the video (at 3.32) where I saw your hand, it appeared to me that you have vitalago. Do you? I too have it. I refer to it as the Michael Jackson disease. Causes me no harm or symptoms other than that skin has no color in it. Anyways, can't wait for part two. Very glad y'all are safe and secure there.
@@TheCampulanceMan I'm sorry to hear that. I used to have a guy I worked with who had that. You said you used to have it, does that mean it's gone or just controlled? That tanning thing or lack of pigment in the skin is the only symptoms of my vitalago. But it doesn't bother me in the least to be "spotted". When people ask me about it I just tell them I suffer from the Michael Jackson desease. Stay safe and well my friend.
@@brianmoore4299 I take a medication that keeps it from appearing - I've been using it for years now, injections every 2 weeks like an epi pen. Thank goodness they have the meds for it :)
@@TheCampulanceManwith my cancer and the other things wrong with me I give thanks everyday for the scientist and researchers who develop all this great medicine and medical devices to remove our pain, suffering, and discomfort. Glad you're doing good with it. What about Daylin? Is it hereditary? I'm sorry if any of my questions are out of line or too personal please do not be upset with me. Just don't answer and I'll get it. Truly I only ask out of concern. .
@@brianmoore4299 So far she hasn't shown it, but it didn't hit me till my 30s and she's just 23. It does pass from parents to children, yes but she's lucky that they have a lot of different meds that can 100% control it. Thanks for your concern Brian :)
I could do this job in my sleep. The funny thing is, I like it. I have never had a sitting-down job in my life, and I wouldn't know what to do with one. Yet, I am an intellectual; I think on my feet. I suspect that you are the same. 😼
My site supervisor said that as long as he didn't get any complaints then I'd be OK. Cleaning up the waste is the most important thing (and taking it with us) and never letting him take a whizzer near the pile.
@@exploringnext1111 Oh that's too bad. It may depend on the site supervisor - ours was OK with dogs and a lot of people had them. They didn't want to lose any people cause we had just enough to run the site.
I'm glad I get time with pets in my family, but don't own one myself anymore. Best of both worlds. If I wanted a companion, I'd find a woman. More fun, more interesting, no vet bills, and no need to be with them until they die, unless you feel like it.
When I was working in food and hospitality, I had to pass a food safety test every couple of years, and a human resources sexual harassment video upon initial hiring. Not objecting, it's just kind of weird that it's considered necessary.
