🎉 It’s finally here! We are asked all the time what living in the community of East St Paul, Manitoba is like? Today, we step just beyond the Winnipeg borders to show just that! 🙌
There’s a lot going on in this one... We share information about what living within the neighbourhood is like - this includes types of homes, school districts, shopping, recreation, entertainment, lifestyle. We hope you enjoy this labour of love.
Synopsis:
East Saint Paul is just outside of the City of Winnipeg with some portions still within the Perimeter Highway. As a result, it is a popular area for many professionals that prefer a more country or rural setting once they leave the office.
Schools and Services
This community’s schools are managed by the River East Transcona School Division. There are three schools within the immediate area of East St Paul. For English Programming, children are often sent to:
Dr. F.W.L Hamilton School, which is within the area, for Kindergarten through to Grade Five OR Emerson School which is in neighbouring North Kildonan
Followed by:
Robert Andrews Middle School, which is also within the area, for Grades Six through to Grade 8 OR John Pritchard School in neighbouring North Kildonan.
For High School, children will likely be sent to River East Collegiate, also in nearby North Kildonan.
For French-Immersion Programming, students will likely be sent to:
Ecole Sun Valley School in nearby Sun Valley OR Ecole Springfield Heights in Neighbouring North Kildonan for Kindergarten through to Grade Five
Followed by Ecole John Henderson Middle School or Ecole Munroe for Grades Six through to Grade 8. They would then attend College Miles Macdonell Collegiate for High School.
Also worth noting, East St Paul is approximately a 20-kilometer drive to St John’s Ravenscourt.
Services/Entertainment
If you are looking to get outside, then East St Paul is the place to be! North East Pioneers Greenway runs through the area along a former CPR rail line. There are beautiful birds, flora, fauna, wetland meadows, and river bottom forest to explore. It connects communities all the way from the Forks to Birds Hill Provincial Park and is worth the trip!
There are also many beautiful quarries with beautiful walking paths all around the lakes that have formed. One of the local favourites is Memorial Park or Silver Springs Park because of the backdrop of lakes, walking paths, sledding options in the winter.
If you are looking for more organized activities, East St Paul has it all for you! Whether it be at the Benham Soccer Fields, or the RM of East St Paul Soccer and Baseball Complex, or the Skylight Indoor Soccer Complex - there are numerous opportunities to kick a ball around. Wanting something a little different? Check out the Fungoes Golf Centre or The Beach Beach Volleyball Centre.
I would not be doing a proper job of discussing this area though if I didn’t talk about its proximity to Birdshill Provincial Park. This is a favourite park for locals as well as Winnipeg as a whole, as it offers beautiful hiking trails, horseback riding, dog sledding, cross-country skiing options, a ski-hill in the winter, a wonderful beach, options for camping, and a large amphitheatre.
Finally, can we talk about East St Paul without talking about Jonesy’s? I think not! Jonesy’s is known for its comfort food at great prices all while setback in a wonderful and welcoming atmosphere for friends and family. This is a restaurant frequented by many of the locals or those headed to the lake from the City.
There are some fun shopping opportunities within East St Paul. A popular destination in the summer is the East St Paul Farmers’ Market. Also within the borders of East St Paul is Sobeys which is found on Birds Hill Road. There isn’t a great deal of additional shopping within the immediate borders of East St Paul, however East St Paul happens to be a short drive from many shopping venues housed in neighbouring North Kildonan or Transcona.
