Today, I'm gonna confess to the five things I hate about living in Florida. Full disclosure, you know that I love living in Florida. Even so, there are some things I wish were different. These are the top five things I hate about Florida from five to one, number one being the thing I hate the most, let's get started.
Number five, heat and humidity Okay, I'll bet you thought this would be my number one complaint. It does get hot and humid here in the summer, but it's not as bad as you might think. Before we moved here, a good friend from Miami told us, "In New England, we stay inside in the winter and go outside in the summer. In Florida, we stay inside in summer and go outside in the winter." That made sense to me, but even that is somewhat inaccurate, and this is why it's at the bottom of my list. It does get hot, but the temperature normally stays around 92 degrees Fahrenheit. What's more, it is quite comfortable to go biking or golfing in the morning and evening even in the summer. And then there is this thing called air conditioning. So for me at least, the heat and humidity is quite manageable.
Number three, traffic circles. When we're talking about traffic, for some reason, Sarasota has become very enamored of traffic circles. In general, I think they can be useful, but they just don't work well everywhere.
Number two, I miss fall.
And drumroll please, the number one thing I hate about living in Florida, lovebugs. I'm not talking about the cute, little German cars from the 60s, I'm talking about the most evil, diabolical creature on God's green earth.
Number four, the Pokey Lane. This one is a bit tongue in cheek, but still annoying. One thing I noticed when we first moved to Sarasota was that drivers tend to go slowly in the left lane, forcing other vehicles to pass on the right.
Okay, there you have the five things I don't like about living here. But the good things, the beautiful weather, the beaches, the sun, stunning sunsets over the gulf, biking, year-round sports, and the lifestyle more than make up for these shortcomings. For me, this is the best place we've ever lived.
