You know, here's my opinion. I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. Edmonton is a great city, but for us younger people (20-25) the economy in Alberta has not favoured us. The GDP growth in Alberta has been stagnant for years. I'm sorry to say but Alberta is seeing the largest amount of young people moving elsewhere for better job opportunities in Canada (Google Alberta unemployment of young people). This "brain drain" is making Alberta a less attractive place to live. I am also part of the brain drain that is sweeping Alberta, as I have moved to BC as an Engineering graduate.I could be wrong, but I don't see much economic development to come to Alberta, although the real estate is good and you can get alot of bang for your buck, I just don't see the prosperity coming back to Alberta anytime soon. Combine this with the bitter cold that lasts 6 months and other provinces begin to seem like a better choice. Furthermore I heard it's likely Alberta will impose a Provincial Sales Tax in the near future. The Alberta Advantage is no longer alive, it's a harsh reality that most Albertans have a hard time grasping. Back in the 1990s Alberta was the place to be. In 2021? Far better options in Canada. This begs the question.. if I had the opportunity to work and live in Edmonton, would I buy real estate there? The answer is MAYBE due to the economic climate. Just imagine how many more clients you would get if my generation (20-25) had the opportunity that our parents had to live in a prosperous Alberta, and I'm talking about EVERYONE that has left Alberta since 2015. Everyone in Texas, BC, Ontario. Not just oil workers, im talking about EVERYONE! I hope for Edmonton's sake things get better, but for now, most people will pass on the idea of buying real estate here.
