You have shown that experience is the best teacher. Paradise will collapse before your very eyes if you don’t plan well. The hotels are expensive and it is advisable to eject yourself out of those hotels as soon as you can. Most of the cab drivers are wily and they will definitely overcharge you for a ride and more especially if they realize that you are a foreigner. You have to be very knowledgeable of the expected charges in order to haggle down the monies that they call on you to pay. Always agree on an amount before boarding their taxis. Using the local buses will save you a lot. Avoid living the expatriate type of life and you will be good
You're very right dear. This is fact and the hard truth. I am a Ghanaian though but I traveled to the US somewhere in 2016.I lived in the States for a period of 4months came back to Ghana. Trust me I came down with some few dollars thinking the foreign exchange would be in my favour so I started clubbing, eating large in restaurants, (I don't take alcohol though) dashing out some smaller denomination dollars to my siblings and family members but before I realized hmmm, I was down with my dollars. Then, I was left with no option than to start with my local currency. Hahahahaaaa. It's very true. Thanks for the info.
I love your Ghana content paa. I appreciate you sharing the do’s and don’ts on expenses. I’m going to back Ghana in 4 months and all tour Ghana advice has helped start preparing.
Hi sis, love the way you say Hay my brother you will go broke. You should have added Ooooo to it. All the same we love you as a sister . You should also ask brothers and sisters living abroad that you need a place to stay in Accra because a lot of us living abroad have houses in and around Accra.
@@GabbyMack You, Maya and Anna are inspired me to visit Ghana. I don't have no one in Ghana so I'm trying to put everything together before I'll go visit but that's my dream one day
Well said. With a full bucket of money to Ghana, you have to plan well otherwise you will go broke.Never compare Ghanaian prices with those in the diaspora!Always buy your return ticket. I know friends who got broke there. What helped them was their return tickets.
Hey ! its simple when in Rome you do like roman's when in Ghana you live like the native ! go to the local market buy ur stuff cook at home, occasionally you hang out ! i visit regularly i spend 50 usd a week on food and drinks
I love your channel. Too bad if some people believe you're beingv too criticsl of Ghana given all your observations are based upon your personal experiences over there. With such a beautiful voice and warm personality like yours the world is ypur oyster on socisl media. I would advise anyone going to the local markets in Ghana is to dress down and to do a tour of the market before starting to buy to get an idea of prices. Plus travel with a Ghanain to the market who has your bsck and not those who would gladly allow u to be overcharged simply because u have foreign exchange and so can afford it etc. Allow yourself an extra half hour to discover the going rate is to a particular destinatio by hailing at least 4 or five taxis and baeterring all quotes to below half of what u have been intially quoted etc. This principle applies across the board for anything that isn't pre-priced. As a foreigner youre sutomatically over priced iglobally. Goid luck and stsy safe
I am guilty of comparing Ghanaian prices to American prices. I still don’t think it’s necessarily a bad idea and benefits the locals. I see it this way: if I spend about $$30.00 a day on food in America, and I only spend the equivalent of $15.00 (usd) on food, and my income is through an American source, what’s the issue? If one is on a strict budget, I see the logic. Otherwise, I don’t like spending too (sometimes it’s appropriate & necessary for me) time stressing over that when my source of income is from America and is higher than the average Ghanaian, who might find the prices too high.
Yes I agree to what you are saying because some you tuber can be confusing with their ideal budget the usd $ exchange for the Ghana $ I have done my research on what’s affordable but hell money want be no issue for me but because it want I know how to spend wisely get what I truly necessarily need because I will not be coming with bunches of bags or furniture
No, what she means is that as a visitor, you will be interested in tourists things, arts and craft, etc. The locals don't care about that. Unless a tourist only wants to eat and ride Uber, then they don't need to care about budget. Do by going broke easily, that is because will be spending on arts and stuff
Regarding visa ; The consulate in Houston, Texas process is like 💯 safe and secured. I can’t trust the consulate in Washington DC so that’s your personal choice. But I can tell you the Houston consulate is super awesome 👏. The only truth to that consulate is that they love you to do the expedite visa because that’s how they make some profit. So instead of $100 it’s $200 and you get it in 3 days or less for multiple entry visa and instead of $60 to pay $100 for single entry. Or you can drive or fly to Houston and do same day visa at the Ghana 🇬🇭 consulate in Houston Texas. Please this is not an advertisement or commercial for the consulate in Houston. The Washington consulate has very unprofessional people working there and we need them to change their customer service to clients. But anyway they all get the job done ✅ . Just pray they don’t seize your passport and never return it to you like they did to us. I had to do report my mum’s passport as lost and stolen and request another passport expedite in 2 days and expedite visa in a day from Houston consulate and it cost me a lot. I mean change in ticket 🎫, new passport and visa. I hope they have changed their mode of operation at the Washington consulate. SKT In Focus
Gabby Mack sure Houston, Texas consulate I have no doubts at all. Just go to google maps and google Ghana embassy Houston and look at their rating. It’s 4.9 SKT In Focus
I used Houston consulate for my multiple entry visa in 2016. I called to verify everything, the lady was very helpful answering my questions. I had no issues at all. Had my visa back in two week and I didn't pay for Express.
Ya Lotus very true. I have done ✅ normal visa process for myself and siblings through the Houston consulate with no issues and you receive it within the two weeks interval. The circumstances with my mum made it for us to do expedite because the Washington DC consulate delayed and till today they still holding on to her passport but it’s been reported lost and stolen so they can keep it. Houston consulate is always the best. Washington DC lol good luck 👍🏿🍀 but I know others have success stories there but wait till those who have bad experiences comment SKT In Focus
LoVely people do but it’s more common for people to save on their own. However it all still depends on what business you’re coming up with. May require huge money so a loan and investors might be the best. I’m not too sure of the process of getting one though, would have to research more
The whole of Ghana is not expensive but Accra, that’s why we Ghanaians always have saying that goes” Accra stay by plan”. If you are not from Ghana always make sure you have a local associate who will help you with bargaining or pricing up things, if you get the strategies of spending in Ghana then you will be the happiest person in the world because the country is already peaceful.
Am original from Ghana but living in the diaspora for 15 years now. But am moving back home. I don’t want stay Accra. To much expenditure. I finished my Hohoe in the Volta religion. I don’t like city life.
Since Covid changes everything, I’m afraid of flights, taxis, hotels, Airbnb. I’m waiting for pandemic to subside more to travel to Ghana. I really like the convenience of living within 10 minutes to fresh markets and grocery store. Also want one stop monthly rental plus utilities bill. Is this feasible option in Ghana?
@@GabbyMack Very interesting 🤔... Business venture 🤷🏿♀️😳🤭😅. Thanks for replying to a new subscriber, love your content. Ran across you videos because I was seeing who was traveling since the borders opened. I want to prepare for when me and my two boys(Their 1st time to ghana, my 2nd) come for the holidays. Thank you for sharing can't wait for more videos 😊.
When are you going back to Ghana? You need to find a steady income and then you can live well. Also move out of the city to the outskirts of Accra.WATCH JASMINE AMA VIDEO's.It will teach you how to live and spend when in Ghana
Jennylynd James yes u can might be a bit pricey. What I did once was I got this really nice Uber driver with a comfortable car, took his number and asked him if he would take me places off the app for a certain price a day. He agreed and it was cheaper plus I wouldn’t want to drive just anywhere
Ghana has stick/manual or automatic cars. But personally, i wouldn't feel comfortable driving there although the driving was similar to American style in the capital BUT outside is more freestyle.
My boyfriend is from Togo and i am from America. We were just going for visit and i wanted to buy gifts. Watching this video i understand better now why he was being a haggler. Some things i understood but others i wanted to splurge. But i am grateful i had him to tone me down.
It is unfortunate that you have to continuously apologize for giving frank and candid info. One question for future episode maybe. You spoke of the very good grade school education there. Do you know if there are program learnings in the school system that are focused on digital media, like video editing, motion graphics, digital illustration and animation?
How do you blow more money in Ghana than abroad? That's very misleading. Ghana is very cheap but you can't just stay in Accra. Ghana is not just about Accra.
Africa no it’s not because many people experience this. If you don’t budget well you will spend more. Cost of living is different in both places so trust me I know what I’m talking about. And I know Ghana is just not Accra, I’ve been several regions in Ghana. But let’s face the fact that most people foreigners will rather stay in Accra
@@GabbyMack I see...but next time let them know it's cheaper in other parts of the country. But anyway, you look familiar...I'm not sure if I watched your video in the past or do you live in Maryland?
I agree with you 100%. So, when I hear people going to Ghana living flamboyantly I wonder what they are doing or thinking. You are spending dollars or spending euro money. What about when that money you brought along with you to Ghana is depleted, what do you fall back to for your income, Ghana cedi?, at that moment reality will set in. So, don't be fooled by comparing US or UK to Ghana with regards to standard of living or style of living . Or be so quick to condemn US or UK style of living.
Or some people have a mobile job or living off of their retirement income. Some people just got it like that and can live a life of luxury. Im 35 and retired.... its too easy for me to live comfortable or spend on luxury items etc.. in a place like Ghana. To each their own 🤷🏾♀️

This is a general question. And this goes to you too Gaby. If you won a million dollar lottery today. Will you prefer living and invest in Ghana or rather stay in the U.S. of Trump?
