어느 책에서 읽었어요 어느날 엄마와 초딩 꼬마가 방과후 집으로 돌아가는 길에 대문이 열린 집을 지나가며 대문 안을 쳐다보았어요. 그러자 엄마가 그러지 말라 했고 꼬마는 "열려 있는 대문인데 왜 들여다 보는게 문제인가요?" 물었고 엄마는 "너 들여다 보라고 열어 놓은 것이 아니란다! " .. 라는 가르침.. 당시 난 20대 때였는데 충격이었어요. 남의 집 문이 열려 있다고 쳐다보고 들여다 보는 것이 예의 바른 행동이 아니다란 것을 몰랐거든요. ㅜㅜ 그리고 오고가는 타인들을 물끄러미 쳐다보는 것이 얼마나 상대를 불편하게 하는 것인지도 거의 같은 시기에 내가 당하면서 알게 되었구요. 울 한국 노친네들 다 그런건 아니지만 뚫어지게 쳐다보는거 싫다는 눈으로 내가 같이 쳐다봐도 눈 안 돌려요.. 그게 문제라는 걸 모르니까 그럴거에요..ㅜㅜ 미안해요 Miss 타일러 💕💜💏
I've talked to a couple of Black men from the US who have been living in Korea for the last 10 years, and they say they feel safer in Korea than in the states. They dont feel like they are being surveillanced 24/7. They say the police aren't profiling them or following them. The Korean people treat them the way they treat the Korean people. Koreans don't judge them the way White Americans judge them. Granted, the Black American men are college grads and are English teachers in Korea. They say they want to remain in Korea for as long as possible.
I love what you said about feeling like you can live your life to the fullest. And in the previous video about being able to appreciate living in Korea more in your 30s. I just turned 33 and I’m planning to apply with EPIK in the fall or next spring. You covered a lot of topics in this video that I have been wondering about😊 I am nervous about learning the transportation systems and getting around in Korea. Also, what you said about eating McDonald’s a lot in the beginning and buying ramen from the convenience stores to avoid having to communicate I can so see myself doing that lol. I love watching your content Tayler, you seem like such a down to earth, sweet person. It would be so neat to meet you someday in Korea:)
Yes girl, go for it! Living and teaching in Korea is such a great experience 😊 And don't worry too much about the transportation system, I think you'll pick it up pretty quickly like I did. I recommend downloading apps like Naver Maps, Kakao Metro, and Kakao Taxi once you get here. They will help out so much!

As a Korean, what I hate the most about living in Korea would be also hearing and watching people, especially some smokers spitting on the street and the sounds! It’s so gross. About pollution.. it used to be a lot better about 10 years ago.. and it seems getting worse and worse. Interesting thing that I have never thought was shutting the curtain in bus or train haha. I am a Korean who loves sunlight (like to be tanned) but now I think even for me, I always shut the curtain unconsciously 😂 I guess at the time I didn’t like the sunlight coming into my eyes? hahaha Hope you enjoy your life in Korea and stay well and happy!

I don't know what it is about Korean just keeps on staring w/o thinking. But than I don't remember anyone thought me that is not good etiquette to do so when I was little.. lol I'm a Hungarian living in Western Europe, and one of those things I had to de-learn is staring. Like in Eastern Europe you have to scan every single person who comes your way (safety reasons), but in the West it's very rude. It's so hard when I visit home, I get totally confused with the staring. I think it's a thing in the Middle East as well. I don't know about other parts of the world.

I am almost sure that Koreans like your cute face as well as positive and joyful character : ) Skin color doesn't matter. What matter is how someone speaks and behaves. Frankly speaking, Koreans are 'facism' rather than racism. They much more like cute, good-looking, beautiful, pretty face. Who would not, but Koreans are more like it. I like your answers too which is quite balanced. One comment I'd like to make is about air quality. The air quality of Korean peninsula is significantly influenced by China as you may know. They run numerous power plants and factories fueled by coals which is the main cause of air pollution in China. And wind blows from west where China located through all year around except Summer. Recently, Australia was blocked in coal exporting to China but then ironically China went through shortage of coal that makes power plants and factories in China have to stop. As a result, air quality of Korea nowadays has been much better than previous years.
I'm 17, and the thought of moving to Korea to teach English has crossed my mind a few times. One of the major things that I've been worried about however, is how I would feel living in such big cities. I've only left the state of Mississippi a handful of times, and the county that I've lived in my entire life only has about 23 thousand people here (versus the 2.4mil of Daegu and the 2.9mil of Incheon for example). Do you think it would be difficult for me to adjust to the city life? I also have social anxiety, so the thought of living in a place where I know absolutely no one is terrifying.
To be honest, I think moving to a big city let alone a whole other country will be a huge shock to your system. You still have a while until you’re eligible to teach in Korea, I would start trying to do small things to get out of your comfort zone in the meantime (like traveling more in the US first), so it doesn’t feel like as big of a change/culture shock if you make the decision to move in the future.
@@taylerwithane Thank you for your response! I've been trying to get out of my comfort zone more here recently, and trying to overcome my social anxiety. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly it is that I want to do with my life. I do know that if I start leaning more towards TEFL then I would I like to visit Korea first before making the commitment to living there for an extended period of time.
Your videos over the year have helped me so much! I just got into EPIK (waiting on my placement currently) and I’ve been a ball of nerves with the culture shock, language barrier, and even trying to figure out the bank systems in Korea. I’ve never lived out of America so your videos have given me peace of mind while I get ready to move.
The thing you said about feeling anxious and not experiencing that in Korea. Is exactly how I feel in South Africa which is probably x10 worse than the US. You constantly have to be worried and looking over your shoulder. When I was in the north of England, in a small town for a year it was so amazing because I never felt my safety threatened. Then I had to come back and my anxiety was sky high again.

Hi! I’m so glad 😊 They allow the mobility scooters on the subway. With buses I believe it depends on the bus. Some don’t have ramps to get on and off while others do.
Awww some if the cafes are dark but I've found a ton with amazing basso light here in Daegu! We go to jeju in a couple of weeks and I am hype! I'm a beach girl too 😎 And yeah, the weather here in Daegu is fantastic! I mean I'll hate it in August, but this bright, sunny, warm with a breeze thing we have going on in May is 🤌🏾

I would love to live in Korea, but I an afraid I might get lost. lol. It good to see that I don't have to bring my Korean boyfriend lol. I wouldn't leave him but I'm glad I don't have to know the language on a college level lol.

Just wanted to say I appreciate your perspective of being in Korea :). Also about the staring thing, it's a general symptom of any country with a homogenous population. it's no different than an Asian being in Africa, for example. People would stare, point and make gestures.. but of course I understood it's because I'm different from what they are used to.. not being from their country.. its more a sense of curiosity. I also lived in Germany in the 90's as a younger child with my family and we'd get these cold stares from Germans everywhere we went. that was very uncomfortable.. even as a child... however later i realized that was just how Germans were.. they're known to be stone faced lol... but the common factor is the same in any country where they are not used to seeing much diversity. It's not just a thing among Asian countries, but Korea has definitely been changing a lot these days having had the influx of more foreigners.. it's that much of a "shock" factor to see foreigners .. younger generations are used to it and go about their day as usual and don't pay no mind to seeing foreigners.. as they wouldn't any other person. It's mostly older folks still or just really young children.. or if you go out to smaller isolated cities where foreigners don't live.
This air pollution thing didn’t exist even 8? 10? years ago.. this is a new thing to us Koreans too. There used to be pollen in spring, yes, but this microdust coming from China is just out of control😡 And for you, sun might be something to be enjoyed, not something obligatory, but for some people, it’s obligatory to avoid sunlight. I would like to point out there are many people who have very sensitive skin, like sunlight alergy, as you know and some people have conditions that can be affected by sun. I loved sunbathing and lived in Spain, the country of sun, but last year unfortunately got autoimmune disease, now I always have to wear sunglasses and big hat, and ask other people for excuse to close the blinds all the time.. I mean it would have been nicer if they asked you beforehand, but everyone has different situation
Ah yes, I recently heard about people having really sensitive skin, which makes a lot of sense of why they avoid the sun. Also, I'm sorry about your situation. I have an autoimmune disease as well.
Coupang Eats (mix of English and Korean), Shuttle (I think they only are in the greater Seoul area), and McDelivery (only for McDonalds) are the food apps I know of that have English options. I hope that helps!

When changing clothes, you need to apply a separate footstool to prevent getting wet. If the ventilation and fresh water are not cleaned frequently, mold may occur. Mold is mainly caused by the snow or exposure of very small tiles line. It’s very easy to remove with a liquid called Lox. Very small amounts of mold in the bathroom will not cause problems
There are portable dehumidifier machines sold all over the place. But you can also turn on the fan. It will help get rid of the humidity, especially during summers
Yes, I'm sure its really safe there; however, as a former service member, I can't imagine the countless missiles pointing towards Seoul ready to be fired by NK at a moments notice. You must be from a really bad neighborhood in the U.S to feel so vulnerable; all the best!
