Since my budget is US $2400, I split it 3 ways - $800/rent and utilities, $800/living expenses, $800/savings or travel. I was hoping to rent a 1BR at Straits Residences for RM 3500 because I really want a place with a balcony facing the waterfront. Hoping they relax MM2H though I might qualify under the new MDEC De Rantau Digital Nomad visa for 2 years since I work online. Wish me luck!
One of the best monthly budget breakdowns for living in Malaysia for 2023. Thanks and keep us posted on the Malaysian government retirement requirements for foreigners.
Taylor, I have no intention of ever moving to Malaysia but I have to say that I'm addicted to your soothing voice. I love your personality and the content is very interesting even to someone with no plans of going to Malaysia. I love to learn about different places, cultures, lifestyles and foods and that's why I love your channel so.
One of the reasons the government raised the entry requirements is to prevent misused of the MM2H programme. There were participants who used the programme for gaining profit through property speculation in the market. The participants don’t stay in the country and don’t contribute the local economy. On the other hand, their involvement would create never ending of upward spiralling of property prices. So, sadly the government has no alternative but to raise the entry requirements.
It would seem like if that were their only concern the other replies of limiting foreigners to owning no more than 1 unit would have been a better solution
Why not just fix a minimum time period that MM2H entrant can sell their real estate instead of using the sledgehammer approach? The policy was badly thought through.
Keep up the videos! I discovered your channel just a couple days ago and have learned a ton! Im looking to move to Malaysia at some point in my 20s and your content has helped me feel much more eager and confident about it.
Scotland Calling!😄👋🏻 Nice video Andrew n informative - a fun watch! Yes too bad about the retirement visa going up! Many overseas executives who worked in great companies would also find it off putting, shame really as retirees spend lots of money eating out, shopping etc! 👋🏻😄
You put a lot of thought into this cost vlog. Much appreciated. Hope the MM2H program will eventually loosen their requirements. I also agree that money does not buy class. Lastly, I always appreciate an Earl Grey cameo. Looking forward to your next vlog. Cheers.
Andrew, I love your videos. They are simple, sincere, informative and without pretention. I live in Florida and have owned properties overseas and renting is a great way to get to know an area. So many Americans are retiring without enough money to live comfortably in the US but with plenty of money if they make good choices. Wonderful information you provide them. Thank you and keep up the great! work!!!
Thanks Taylor, a very interesting video. If I am ever lucky enough to live in KL, my budget would of necessity have to be a bit lower than your $2000. Nevertheless, looking at yours I think that would be quite achievable. Having been to KL many times, I am quite comfortable using either the very good public transport or the Bolt alternative. My food expenses and other items on your list, I think would possibly be lower, so, now that I have seen your budget I more comfortable in one day making the transition.
Incredible video! As some one who will be moving to Malaysia (KL) for work in few months this was so unbelievably useful video. I'm bing watching all of your videos hehe 😅
Very interesting! I've been trying to watch as many of your videos as I can & am hoping to find out why you left Penang for KL, just out of curiosity. Maybe I haven't found the right video yet. My husband works in high tech and has been to Penang many times and I got to spend a few days there. We stayed in Georgetown at the Eastern & Oriental hotel (i think that's the name). We took a Grab to the botanic gardens and drove past some amazing British Colonial homes that looked like they were abandoned. Of course, ever since then we've dreamed of buying one! But your point of wanting to be high in the sky without spiders and other wildlife is a good one, so maybe a modern condo would be better! Thanks for the great info
Hi Taylor, Greetings from the U.K. thanks for your ever so enlightening videos. Do you have any content on private houses in KL? Saw the one with the judge. Thanks
i know a lot of rich people who are pretty low quality --- LOL , snarky !!! Hope the MM2H does moderate - I would love to go back to Malaysia. nice to know about the Georgetown area .... Penang and Kulim is what I know but lived when corporate traveling in KL in a downtime 5 star - with its standard 5-culture breakfasts .... Glad you found your ex-pat home - congratulations. I subscribed ; will have to visit and look around --- check back with you for 2024 ... nice channel -- great info.
Can I put in my 2 cent worth of advise. I don't know how to choose a good agent but be carful. Read the contract, it may include internet make sure it is connected otherwise you will wait 3 -4 weeks. It more than likely will be + electricity. Get them to right an estimate in the contract that includes full air con use other wise they will take you for a ride.TAKE PHOTOS when you move in of everything not just the bad bits. Will save hassles later on exit as they will try and charge you. Also in contract get a fixed date for deposit return. Basically do not trust anybody. Oh enjoy!!
Nice place you have in KL for sure. Ever thought of moving slightly further out the city to areas like PJ? You would probably get more bang for your buck, rent wise.
MM2H was recently brought up by one of the MP at parliament for review. Wait for feedback later. But very likely this will be opposed by the opposition members who raised the bar previously.
man, my house in florida would cost about $5500/month, including HOA, Property Tax, Mortgage, and bills. To think of the place I could have in Malaysia is incredible...Also all the incredible travel opportunities.I really am thinking of moving just not sure I would like it after awhile. It's so hard to pick >_
I live in Bangsar South and paid Rm1.7 million cash for my condo 4 bed over looking Gasing Hill on 37th floor 1.7Ksq feet. Budget per month for us is about USD$16,000 per month. So no problem with the new MM2H requirements if they decided to reverse it again, who knows right.
Tq Taylor pretty explicit break down,I wonder wat's d cost of livin down south peninsula Malaysia in J.B,cud b my potential location to stay, kindda off d beaten path fr mny expatriates though...sounds interesting state too
Would you talk about some nice furnished rental apartments and houses? I am not going to buyafter I retire. I am working in the states right now. I am from an Asian and single. Most of time, I will stay home and not travel much. The budget is around US2000 for rent. I am looking at Ritz Carlson 1 bedroom. I am not sure if it is worth or there are better options. I prefer not owing anything so I prefer to be furnished. Thanks for your videos.
@@andrewtaylor4558 Putrajaya is always meant to be a tranquil city, because the Prime Minister needs a very serene environment to deal with both national and international affairs, as well as fulfilling every Malaysian people's basic needs!
Taylor , if one didn't want to commit to the MM2H programme just yet, would it be possible to say, take a 6-12 month lease on an apartment in KL or Penang, then stay for 3 months, fly out for a week, fly back and stay for another 3 months and so on? And I'm not sure whether its 90 days or 30 days for a tourist visa. It's not super clear.
It depends on what country you are from but the US passport they give 90 days. You could most likely do what you are saying. They don’t like you to make a habit of that though. 😊
You can do visa runs, and Malaysia is very tolerant of it. But they like you to stay out for several weeks before coming back in, and they might question why you're not returning to your home country. Since it is visa-on-arrival they can, of course, refuse entry. Sometimes, by discretion, they might issue only a 12 day visa and refuse to give you another 90 days. An example of this might be someone with lots of visits in their passport and they're carrying a guitar. The Malaysians might decide they're a busker (and an undesireable). So if you don't have residency and you rely on 90 day tourist visas, it can be tricky. Some people do it for years, though. It means a holiday in Thailland every 90 days and then hope Malaysia lets you back in.
@@davidd5226 Yep. A short term strategy. Easily do it for a year, especially if you mix up your destinations a bit. Don't make an obvious pattern. The authorities are looking for illegal workers. They might sspect you of living in Malaysia on tourist visas while working. That's why they prefer you to stay out a few weeks before going back in. It suggests you're not working a regular job.
Mr Taylor, Thanks for your video as always. Can you please give us a breakdown as to how your income is $2k? I know this is asking a lot.... SS + ivestments? You and your partners SS? Etc... Each of us knows what our budget is... Either by our self or 2 peoples retirement income. Thnx soooo much!
Mr. Taylor, could I ask how do you receive your SS payment every month? Does the SS Administration credit them into your bank account in M’sia? I don’t think they will mail the checks to a foreign country.
Thank you so much Mr. Taylor for all the information and videos you had shared. I really appreciate it. Hope to hear from you the report on relaxation of MM2H soon!
I live on a RM 3000.00 per month. I have my own house. Soo rent is out of the equation. My car is fully paid. My medical bills are taken care by the government. This value supports 3 adults. I just live to survive month to month.
Hello! Andrew, I visited a web site of Malaysia my second home, and I can’t find exactly what’s required to expatriate over there, we are both retired my wife and me, there’s some confusion on the web site, with more than 5,000 $US are we allowed to stay in Malaysia with a long term Visa
Hi Andrew, where (which insurance company) do you recommend an expat from the US and over 60 years old buy medical health insurance in Penang? Thank you.
Moving Earl Grey? I don't recommend it...he bites! 😁 I saw your building when I was there in January. I was at the Element hotel, its by the Linc. Our room on the 44th floor looked out in your direction. I remember your video on your building, very distinct look. Can I borrow RM 10,000 a month? I would be constantly cleaning 6,000 sqft.🤣🤣🤣
I am thinking of staying in Penang for two months next summer with my teenager son to explore Penang. We are from the states. What is the best way to find. Short term rental property for two months in Penang? Thank you Taylor.
@@andrewtaylor4558 What is the name of the building that you mentioned at this point in the video? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YtCILJYveCY.html
