Living in Oregon vs Washington - are they really RIVALS?

Regarding the homelessness numbers, wouldn't OR have a much higher homeless percentage due to the overall state populations? I know WA has more, but they also have more people.

I think the farther you get from the big cities, the more their positions change. Land and homes are much cheaper in rural areas of WA than they are in OR.

If you are retired and can live in two places I suggest spending Spring and Fall in Southern Oregon (April, May, June, Oct, Nov, Dec) and Summer and Winter in NW Washington (July Aug Sept Jan Feb March). Summers get really really hot (100+) in So Oregon and winter near the coast in NW Washington tends to be a bit warmer and milder (I love the San Juans and Skagit Valley). Both places are incredibly beautiful, tons of outdoor activities, amazing food and friendly people, but it really is more expensive in Washington - I would say almost double in my experience. But if you're splitting your time between both places it kind of balances out.

Used to live around Seattle. Now in So Cal desert (🥵🥵), looking to move to Oregon asap. I think 3 weeks of rain is about perfect for me, so Willamette Valley it is.

My question is which state is best for someone with a pension. With no income tax, it sounds like Washington, but lower cost of living in Oregon is also enticing. Kinda just want a clear answer so I know where I can settle in the PNW. 😅 Gimme Bigfoot, flannel, coffee shops, and rain!

Oregon is a wonderful state. Please give Portland/Salem to Washington.

The rent to in apartments

Uhhhhhh I saw a pic of the US Capitol ( congress/senate) when you uttered “Washington”. Lol!

Washington literally locks all its bathrooms up and not even the hospital will allow you to use them unless you're needing help or are a customer all because of how bad the homelessness is there. Washington state does not have a personal or corporate income tax whereas Oregon does. Oregon doesn't have a sales tax and has higher taxes on land. Homeowners basically get shat on here. Oregon's max speed limit seems to be 65 on the main highways whereas Washington goes up to 70 and even higher in some area. Washington's speed limits are like California's. Things tend to be faster there than here in Oregon, it seems. In the big cities, I noticed that Washington has a lot more hills than Oregon but Oregon has a lot more one-way roads than Washington. In regards to schools, Oregon seems to have very limited budgeting. I went to school and volunteered to work here in the schools. My English teacher had to trade tape with Thurston High to get toilet paper cause kids were stuck in the bathrooms. Working in the cafeteria, they literally picked off mold and other things on food and cooked it cause they couldn't afford not to use it. The schools in Washington seemed a lot more fancier and nicer than ours. So both states have negatives and positives.
