Love The Heights. Feels like a small town in the middle of the big city.

Houston Heights is like level 1 version of Austin,TX. Tired of travelling to Austin,TX 6th Street; don't worry. Houston Heights has most of independent shops ready for you to browse, shop, highly convenient near Downtown Houston. Obviously, you'll have to deal with high property taxes & interests. The other area that'll likely be gentrified is Greater Fifth Ward. 5th Ward will go up and will be a keyspot for the upcoming East River Houston ( aka another CityCentre market place ). Greater Fifth Ward, while not like Houston Heights along other desirable places to stay, will be sought after by investors. All in all, all stuff you say is true. Good vid

Why laugh at the smaller 3b/2ba houses? Some of us want those. Not everyone wants that mega mansion.

Exactly! For dozens of reasons we’d rather have a more customized, higher quality smaller home w/ a mix of young & old, single & married. Variety please!

Nice work my man! I border the Heights now and am moving to Lower Heights at the end of this month! Literally within walking Distance is a Target, Total Wine, Ulta, Hospital, Gas station, Pizzaria, Petsmart, Gourmet Burger spot, Panda Express, Chillis, Cookie shop, ice cream shop, the list goes on and all of its in one parking lot. Across from it is the new outdoor moving theatre. Next to that is Arts District w/ tons of murals. I thought you were going to show that. You could totally do a part 2 of this! Great work tho! Snooze is the BOMB.COM! Man trust me when I tell you we been going there for years now and tried a lot of stuff but probably the most underrated item on their menu is the breakfast tacos. I.AM.NOT.KIDDING. These tacos are loaded w/ so much flavor it’s like a slap to the face on your first bite. Please give it a try next time you go there.

At 10:20 if you pause the video you will see the sign that says "welcome to MKT". MKT was the Missouri Kansas Texas railroad and they used have a rail line that ran from Katy to Houston along I-10. The small train yard that you see while going over TC Jester was their hub back in the day. Today, Union Pacific works local steel and cement industries out of it. The line wouldve continued east into downtown along what is the current MKT hike and bike trail east of White Oak Bayou. Where you are standing is the exact spot where the rail line used to be located up until the late 1990s when COH bought the line to convert to a bike trail, westbound out of the yard was bought by TXDOT for you guessed it, the worlds widest freeway!!! Crazy that just a couple decades back this was a rail line and the area was not all that great. Time sure has changed it around though! My aunt used to own a breakfast taco shop/mexican bakery on the corner of Washington avenue and Leverkuhn street, small brown brick building. Still visible on Google earth view but once on street view its replaced by a modern building. Trains back then (til the mid 2000s) used to blow their horns at all crossings, so no one who lives next to the tracks today should complain lol good times when I was a kid.

Been living in the heights since 1990. I love it, and I would never move out of my beautiful bungalow house. The demand to live here is so high but it’s worth it.

I'm not sure why so many people, even Houstonians, haven't explored the Heights even though they've been to West University, Montrose, Uptown, etc.. The Heights is probably my favorite area due to the wide mix of architecture and more of a small town atmosphere (although it covers a huge area). Some of it reminds me a lot of New Orleans, other parts just very unique. I'd love to live there although I believe it's rather expensive. It hasn't always been, though. Wish I had bought a place in the Heights 20 or 30 years ago.

Yea man for sure. My grandparents bought a house in the Heights over 30 yrs ago. Bc of the sentimental value they don’t want to sell it but it’s value now is well into the millions and it’s a tiny house. All the other houses around it have been completely tore down w/ new lots and 4 story homes surrounding it. Lucky them!

The Heights sparked my interest as I want to live in the city but still a good area for my children to thrive. I was told the Heights is that place so we shall see.

One of the primary reasons I don’t want to leave the Heights is because of my son. He’s less than a year old now but when he comes old enough, grows and develops I plan on taking him to the museum district every week. Just 7 min away from us is the Childrens Museum, Fine arts museum, Health Museum, Science Museum etc. tons of outdoor play space and 5 min away from Downtown for grown folks if you like night life. Try Buffalo Bayou park and Memorial park also if you have kids. They have done some amazing developments and crazy how big and nice those parks are.

Spent a while there with friends, it is SUPER busy and that's even during pandemic times. Some very nice areas, some sketch areas but overall clean. Still, its jam packed and you end up unable to move in grocery stores, hard to get into restaurants unless you time it. Pros and cons but its jammed.

Preserve, renovate, & invest in old town districts -the more the better! Avoid strip mall-suburban sprawl w/ vast concrete parking lots, traffic jams, & which discourage pedestrians & relaxed socializing.

all those river scenes would be filled with blue homeless tents in most west coast cities. Our rivers are not even safe for dogs to swim in without a bath afterwards.

Not sure if it’s changed, keep in mind murals get painted over all the time in the city but that one that you are referring to is behind the Snooze parking lot on West 18th st. I’m noticing there are tons of murals in the Heights. Their just located in the most random places lol

LOL. It's not in the Heights. That is/was (dunno if it's still there) the Days Inn at Cavalcade and I-45. The Historic Houston Heights is very small and compact area and everything around wants to label itself as the Heights. The best parts of the neighborhood are Woodland Heights, Norhill and Historic Houston/Greater Heights.
