This is the real Venice, forget the grand canal, forget the palazzi. The endlessly claustrophobic little alleys, the careworn buildings, the graffiti, this is is the real city.
Come on, this is a winter cloudy grey day. Venice has plenty of better light other days. Also the cheap camera that overblows the bright areas makes it look worse. I know Venice quite well and it is beautiful even in the worse day. What makes interesting for many the video is the eye fish perspective and lack of movement compensation that makes the subjective feeling you are walking with him. The video manage to give the impression Venice is dirty and that is far from true. He did a detour in purpose in order to walk in narrow areas, he could had follow the Strada Nova that is one of the main streets of Venice.
@@backslash68 Agreed it is not a great house but I doubt it is derelick. Sadly the salt filtrations with the periodical inundations make a mess of many lower areas.
What do you mean, Marijuna? Europe is getting ready to legalize, everyone is. Thailand legalized medical research. They still behead people for it in some places for it. Got to stop.
i love how non italians describe it as „damp“ and „in need of repair“ that’s literally the city‘s charme. i adore venice with all my heart, the little alleys, buildings and the general feeling is just unmatched!
Been there this year, walked all the way from a parking on the outskirts of the city to Piazza San Marco, really a magical place but I feel really sorry for the locals who have to deal with all the obnoxious tourists everywhere during the summer...
@@edithnogueira7899 There are many kind of tourism, and not always they are profitable or welcomed ones. Many of the tourists come for a day trip, don't spend any money, are not interested in art and monuments, perhaps buy horrible stuff from Chinese shops convinced that it is a true Venetian souvenir and leave behind just garbage, dirt and confusion.
When I visited Venice I got lost and had no clue where I was. Then I found a tiny restaurant where I ate the best pizza of my life I a small street. I was not able to find the restaurant again
I think nowadays, you can just ask Google to "remember where I am", I just tried it and it worked for me. Or photograph the name at the end of the street. These are the things you think of later, in the "I wish I had..." category! When we were in Rome, Google remembered everywhere we'd been, even if we only waited outside somewhere for the pedestrian crossing.
Same here. We always try to find where the locals eat. I had a Calamari Potato Soufflé at a Pizza Shop that was amazing. Chef came out and explained his full recipe to me. Love Venice. Feel all the past souls. They are happy there.
I had a similar experience there, except it was on a hot day, walking around, I was so thirsty and tired. Well, they have working water fountains in some of the neighborhoods where people used to go for their water before the buildings had plumbing. And I filled up a bottle of the coldest, cleanest water I've ever tasted. It might have just been because I was hot and dehydrated though.
we have been in venice from schooltrip and guess what?. we were lost like about 1 and half hour we were just going in one same fucking circle all the time
True. I live between Venice and Milan; when I spend time in Venice, I lose weight from all the walking. Then when I stay in Milan for a bit I gain it back.
So true. I've studied in Venice for 5 years. I didn't do sports but I was fit because of all the walking and I didn't even realised it until I graduated and stopped going to Venice on a daily basis. Now I really notice the difference 😂
I used to live in the San Vio / Accademia area, until about 20 years ago there was groceries all around; now NOTHING every food shop has been replaced by tourists shops selling glass, masks and other assorted tourist things. I would not like to be one of the people who live there... they have to walk a lot to buy some food. A big "thank you" to all previous city mayors who did nothing to prevent that from happening. They could at least have passed a local law/initiative to subsidize grocery shops; not many of them, only one would have been enough.
Actually there is a huge supermarket very close from where he started and there are many grocery shops in the area. This video is a fake. Anyway, I agree about the fact that the mayors, including the actual one, should make illegal for Chineses to open their horrible shops all over Venice.
20 years ago there where in Venice only two supermarket and a lot of groceries. At this time, I live in Venice, there are a lot of supermarket open in all over the city (Coop is the most popular), one oh this is opened in an ancient theatre (Teatro Italia) and is like a monument, very beautiful. You can buy bread and pizza and cakes by Rizzo, in Rialto you can buy all the vegetaibles and fruits you want and all the fish you want. For the meat I don't know because I don't eat meat. The City Hall want to attract young to live in Venice with flats low cost. When I was young Venice was a city for old people, nowadays you can find whatever you want.
I have the luck of living at half an hour train or car distance from Venice and I've been there probably several hundreds of times in my life, for work or leisure or study or to visit an exhibition etc. . I even lived there for days when my daughter resided there. I can assure you that each time I've been there, with any weather, light, time of the day or season, the town is different each time and there is always something to discover, to wonder at and to be enchanted by. The works of art, churches, buildings, sights, smells, hidden corners, secret places are so many, that a lifetime wouldn't be enough to discover. Its history, culture, tradition is so exceptional that there isn't literally a place in the world like it. Every time some friends or guests come from abroad and I take them there for a visit, they are left speechless. If you've never been there, I would suggest to try and go, at least once in your lifetime, to experience its uniqueness. I'm very sad at reading the thoughtless comments written by people who don't really know what they are talking about. As I have already said in a comment, this video has been made on purpose in order to show the worst and under the worst light, perhaps dictated by a negative attitude of the person who made it. Of course in Venice, like in every other places in the world, there are old, dilapidated buildings, parts that are not cared for or restaured. But that is certainly NOT ENOUGH to judge the whole! To restore a house in Venice you need a huge amount of money, more than everywhere else, because of the particular characteristics of the place and sadly many true, many generaions old Venetians are going to leave on the mainland because of the skyrocking prices of houses or maintenance. This is very sad. Not to mention some silly person who wrote that all Italian cities look like the third world!! I wonder where this person has been and what he saw! More than half of the art treasures of the world are in Italy and most of it is well kept and cared for. So, please, don't base your impression of Venice on this ugly video. It's deceiving and tries to distort the truth about the city. Anyway, he had no need to walk all that long and to go that way to find a supermarket from the place where he lived. I can tell you. He just took his time to find the worst places to show on camera. I'm happy he's not in Italy anymore.
In the video i found Venice truly beautiful..and i understand it is even more beautiful in your comment. Wish i could go visit Venice someday so i can see all the beauty.😊
What's with this awful comment? It's not an ugly video. I still find the cities in europe are mesmerising and i glad i found this video. It only shows that venice actually not quite different with other cities. It reminds me of my walking routine to a grocery stores in my own city, even though we are thousand of kilometres apart and have completely different cultures
I found this video to be very nice and I I I I loved seeing the doors, walls, windows and steps. They look beautiful to me and quite different than most of our cities that all look the same here in the states. I hope to visit one day and stay in one of the beautiful homes.
Marina Holmes in Venice there are a lot of cats...it’s true that’s not a lot of green but there are some angles of this city that are stunning, rich of flowers and trees.
@@Lucia1502l I've often thought about where we are born. We can be very spoilt without realizing it. I'm amazed at micro units/houses etc. It made me truly appreciate my little home. There is beauty in so many different forms of housing. ☺
I mean i grew up with the same stuff, middle of no where by tons of everything you said.. But Venice looks so beautiful. Such a backhanded comment to the point where its sad.
I enjoyed watching from the strange place you leave then walking through narrow streets going to supermarket. I wonder how are those houses looks like inside. Thanks for your time in sharing this nice Venice video.
That's true. I lived in London for a short of time. I walked everywhere. Had a really small fridge, common in apartments, so couldn't load up with groceries. I would walk to the grocery store just like this guy. I always had to watch my weight when in the states. This was the first time in my life that I lost weight without even trying. I thought something was wrong with me. Lol!
Right on. That entire city is a museum. I took a class on the history of Venice and going there just changes your life. Everyone puts up St Marks or whatever but I like the everyday alleyways and bridges and little nooks that make the city. Thank you!
so cool...txs !!!!.... at 2:38 into vid ...back in 1985.... I was 21 yrs old an visited Venice an had my picture takin in front of that church,.....thanks for the memory 1FM Lake George, NY...USA
Depending on how many years ago she meant, it was beautiful about 20 years and before. You wouldn't see that level of filth and graffiti like that back then. There would be little cafes and shops along the little alleys, kept clean and nice. No more, the same thing happpend to most eruo cities after mass immigration in the 90s, now the main shopping areas are a tacky ugly mess of homeless, criminals and cheap shops. In Switzerland they do not stand for this, niether do they in Poland, both nice clean places, restricted and protected so this won't happen. The state of Vermont in the US is heavily protected from over developement. The world does not need more cheap bags and junk, and the rich donr need million dollar plus bags either.. the entire world needs a reset, a morotorium on trade and goods for a few years so the world can come up woith a new plan. if only..
@@biancadurso3400 Pay attention. She cried because it was beautiful. I've only been there a few times and saw the tourist side and the real neighborhoods, in all its gritty glory. There's no place in the world like Venice and that uniqueness is its greatest quality. If you live there, move. If you visited there, don't go back. They certainly don't want people there that are as bleak as you are.
@@biancadurso3400 Venice is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever seen. I would go back there in a heartbeat. You see crumbling plaster and crowded streets, but your looking past the art, architecture and history of a an incredible place.
When i was in Venice in 2014, every time i ventured out from my Air b n b i would be lost! The only way I could find my way back was to ask where Hospitale was and once i found it, i knew the way back! Sometimes it took walking completely across the island to get there when i could have been 10 minutes away but i was always lost! When the movie Gracie de Monaco came out in Italy, i was at its premiere in Venice! If i would have had gps on my phone, i think i could have gotten around much better! Beautiful city. Was treated like Royalty on Murano by the top glass person on the island, Christina, who helped me discover the maker of my 4’6” tall all glass bird tree, Igor Balbi....great memories for sure.
This is why I love RU-vid. You see things you’d never see in a professional travelogue. I never really thought of how difficult it would be to go grocery shopping in Venice. Now I know.
wow , you must go with GPS, I went there and I remember walking a lot all the time . It is very beautiful but sometimes a little sad, there are very lonely and abandoned places
Loving the comments from tourists. You've been there probably 2 days and think you know or can judge this place, you're dumb. Venezia is beautiful, i'm an American living in Venezia since 2001, moved here from Beverly Hills, California. Walking here at night, close to the canal, the soft lights, it's priceless! I love this city! The guy is living in a pretty crappy apartment, but that's his choice i guess or what he can afford.
@@bradthompsonuk2011 good question. If you know Italy, talking about Amalfi coast, well that's Campania region, one of the most corrupted and dangerous regions of Italy. Napoli is nice for a pizza sure, but i wouldn;t want to find myself sick in a hospital there, no thanks. Toscana is nice indeed, i don't have a reson for that, Roma is amazing, yet way too crazy, too much traffic, too many people. Venezia is tiny and i love the canals and getting a coffee in Piazza San Marco early morning while tourists are sleeping. Veneto is stunning as well, but you know, the more south you go, the worse it gets (talking about burocracy, healthcare), not food or beaches.
People have been complaining about Venice since the 1600s -- about the prostitutes, gambling, general crime levels, and the hordes of other tourists! This city reached it's heyday centuries ago -- all the complaints about the tourists "ruining" it begs the question -- who are they ruining it for? Other tourists?
emma ess Venice’s population has plummeted over the last 30 years. All retail and dining outlets are being purchased by multi-national corporations, all of the buildings being converted to hotels. Without locals, it’s nothing more than a theme park. It’s the death of the city’s culture that people are concerned about.
be dai il video era da fare un po carino.. se faceva 2 metri che senso aveva, un po come fare tutto il video inquadrandosi solo i piedi e lasciare questo titolo e mignatura XD
He's not taking shortcuts, he's doing the opposite. If you pull up Google Maps he actually had to just walk a straight line along a major street but he went into unnecessary alleys and then came back to the main street multiple times
You live over by the casino. I have spent about three years on and off living in Venice on the island of Giudecca. Going back for three months at the end of April this year.
Actually, It's a lot safer at night because all the obnoxious and disrespectful tourists are gone . The best part? you can enjoy a nice cup of wine in public... on the streets!!
Thanks for the walk. Venice's narrow walkways are quaint and beautiful aaw the history. Please make more vid around Venice. If I could live in Italy instead of the U.S....
The good thing about the internet is that we can see things like that and have a look into the life of other people... The bad thing is, that it makes us lazy and less activity means lesser chances to see it with your own eyes...
Actually people were saying he did not go straight to where he needed to go. .. they were saying he took the long way.. and avoided the main street which would have gotten him there more quickly and directly
I'll be in Venecia by January. Smelling the cooking, tripping over the cobblestones and getting lost would part of the adventure. Can't wait to see Venice!!!!
Aaaa me encantó!! 😱 amo ese paisaje.. cuanta historia en cada ladrillo, piedra y granito de arena.. Ojalá algún día pueda tomar unos mates por esos caminos de la bellísima Venecia ❤️😍
This. This is the stuff I like. I been to Venice once and it was the whole touristy thing. Which was amazing upon itself. But this is...this feels REAL. Love it.
Hi there, good to see your insight into a place we love. We also film gopro walk through's, so it's great to see someone else's eye view. We really enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing it, we've subscribed and look forward to seeing more.
There are pretty much only 3 kinda big parks in Venice. Other than those there are a few small green areas here and there for kids to play with and some bigger streets have some trees contained within square patches of grass.
I did my Erasmus program in Venice and you walked trough the exact same streets and went to the same supermarket I used to go :) it’s been so long! I miss it every day!
I've been to Venice with my sisters and we loved it there! Camera doesn't do it justice. We felt as if we were in a fairy tale. It was pretty cold when we were there, off season. Going from Rome to Venice was a huge difference, aesthetically as well as in euros. Thank you for sharing. Blessings.
Thank you for sharing your REAL city, rather than the tourist version. It's beautiful! You can just imagine what it was like walking these same alleyways 500 years ago. I would love to live somewhere that I could walk everywhere I go, but American cities are not that convenient. And for those worrying about heavy shopping bags, you just don't buy a lot at one time. How lovely to buy the food I'm going to cook that day. 😊
"obnoxious and disrespectful tourists"? Hmm, when I went I kept to myself, moved quietly through the streets, took in the view, parted with good money for nice food, making sure to let others pass and not become an obstacle (left my rucksack in the hotel), wasn't at all rowdy in fact kept my head down and enjoyed your beautiful city. Not all tourists are bad! (In response to comment further in)
I wish it were viral, but in fact it's probably shadow-amping, the reverse of shadow-banning. Instead of allowing the people and the algos to decide what's popular, the employees at the web site decide what's hot and what's not directly.
Wow, cool! Thank you for the very interesting visit! I have always wanted to see how Venice was beside the really well known places that are always shown in articles about Venice.
Loved this walk through Venice. I went there once with my parents. My dad and I wandered around and found a laundromat there and it felt like heaven in the middle of a two week trip... I know...tourist eh.
Relatively new problem again. The city had done a pretty good job of cleaning most of it off. Should be a requirement to flash an ID to buy spray paint!
That's what we would consider a long walk to the supermarket here in America! No wonder you see less overweight people in Europe! Loved the video. Ignore the ignorant comments here. Thanks for posting this, Fodoobeer!
Wow, thats what I love! The reality! Is it so early in rhe morning, that sometimes no people is to be seen? Thank you for taking us with you. So quiet, thats what we need in that trouble time. Thumb up. Greetings from Germany
Thank you for posting this video. We were in Venice last year and I managed to find 3 supermarkets. We're back there next week and this one looks bigger, with more fruit and veg. I will be paying a visit or two.
