Hi Demi, you are really a disciplined saver. Can i ask how about utilities bills such as electricity, gas and water? Do you share the cost with your parents?
@DemiZhuang
@DemiZhuang 11 месяцев назад
All I can say is every family is different. If an individual has to count in utilities etc, I don't think it's going to take up a significant chunk of the budgeting.

I also try to limit myself to 500-600 a month when I started working in sg....as time pass its been up to 650-700 a month now.... Recently I looked back at my expenses and tbh I'm not that happy with the progress made. But then again I manage to go on 3 trips in 5 years time and going on a 4th one coming December. Guess just do what makes you happy with discipline. Agree with the allowance to parents part too, people too fast to judge and give their opinion on it but never take into consideration what actually happens in the family

Hey! Do you mind sharing more about insurance matters? Which accident plan are you using? $14.72/mth, means you pay about $176.64 yearly? That sounds affordable. My accident plan with Singlife costs ~$480++/year and I'm under the lowest/minimum tier. I don't know much about insurance and I just take over whatever my parents bought many many years ago.
@DemiZhuang
@DemiZhuang 5 месяцев назад
Woah thats expensive but maybe it covers you more in various areas! My max claim per accident is $2K! I’ll be sharing more insurance concepts really soon. Shared in this video I’m personally entering the industry for various reasons in hopes that no one has to feel the way I do when I bought my plans. As I’m licensed I won’t be able to share product names online. Stay tuned for the concept sharing! If you’d like to have your plans reviewed / discuss w me , you can express your interest here, I’ll reach out - tally.so/r/wky9XJ

i think it’s hard for people to have such low variable or fix cost as ur parents did in a way sponsor part of your expenses e.g lack of housing loans, no need to pay groceries (though ure eating from it) etc
@DemiZhuang
@DemiZhuang 11 месяцев назад
If you had watched from 6:03 onwards, groceries, food etc was budgeted for all 3 meals with that income. 2022 reasons why spending was low was also stated. Personal finance is personal, and not many are willing to sacrifice for their goals. You want it? There's always something thats got to give.

U take a look on gigaroam, 1Gb@$5 for 5 days. This year when I was in Japan, my brother used it and the signal was good. So, my next trip, I intend to use. The good point is you no need to remove ur original SIM card. This help a lot because I’m so afraid to lose my Singapore card.

I could have do what you did to save up but I think that is too slow. I burn most of my weekends doing side hustle which helps to speed up my savings. Already saved up $100K... need advise on what to do next? 😅 how much is needed to be financial independent?
@DemiZhuang
@DemiZhuang 11 месяцев назад
Good job! haha not many are willing to burn their "me time" / free time, do more to get to where they want to be. How much needed is a personal question though, think along the lines of what is the lifestyle you'd like at the financial independent stage.

To be real safe, I guess you would need like 40times your annual spending? Usually FIRE states 25times but I think that is not feasible.

This life description is too harsh for my view: how to get a boyfriend and can not even enjoy food. Life must be balanced; this is too extreme in my european view. Don't forget you also rely on staying at your parents place. True independance in life has a price and freedom and minimal joy also.
@DemiZhuang
@DemiZhuang 11 месяцев назад
That's why it's important to find life partners who are aligned in values. There are lots of other things that you can do besides spending money on activities. Food is something that can be spent on I fully agree, being a foodie myself, but it doesn't mean every other day you dine at restaurants that cost you $20+. And agree, it is always a balance. If you watched all the way to the end, I did mention. It's a balance, you don't want to tip to the extreme end of the spectrum and end up being stingy and not enjoy life. Spend on what brings you the most joy and cut down on others that you don't need, keeping in mind the bigger goals that you're saving up for financially.

But you know cooking a good meal also cost money and bring pleasure to you and the other you share it with. I will not live with what ak suggest on a box of tuna and chick peas to maximise s&p500 allocation. I doubt any partner can align with such suggestion by ak.
