I actually made this video almost a month ago. Things have been better lately. But I wanted to post it anyways, hopefully its helpful to someone else out there.
In this people sketching video I draw a little old lady with BIG HAIR! This woman really exists and she's adorable. In the video I also talk about living on purpose and the obstacles that come up when you move towards what you want.
Below are Amazon affiliate links for some of the supplies I use in these videos.
Feel free to use the links if you're interested in supporting me with your purchase:
The type of sketchbook I use is the Earthbound Cachet sketchbook, available here:
amzn.to/2nx7IoT
The white pen I use is a White Gelly Roller Gel pen available at most arts and crafts stores, or on Amazon...
amzn.to/2ng3tLW
Red/Blue Colored pencil from Prismacolor :
amzn.to/2n0BT3U
I've made two videos talking about the types of drawing supplies I use: • Video
And another demonstrating them:

Maybe you can help each other out become more famous, inspiring each other like you both do all ready with me and the other watchers on both channels ;) I always wanna be better myself while looking at the drawing movies Will and you make, maybe it works also when you work together? IDK this isn't really my business.. just a daydream ;) I just always get happy when I see you guys upload a new drawing!!

I'm inking one of my drawings as I listen.... this talk has really help me feel not so alone 😊 I feel I'm in a cross roads yet again. Forgetting to trust myself and worrying too much. Now that I have finally decided to take my sketching as something I want to do and put time and energy into it,... frightening. Hearing this has made me smile and reminding me to keep moving forward. Thank you Will, for sharing. Thank you for being you. Thank you for your art.

Hey! Glad to see you are out of that curve in your road. Thank you, as always, for sharing. It's so nice to think on how far things have come and remember watching your videos from a much earlier. I think your mentorship reaches further than you think or get to hear back on. I finally made good on an idea I've been wanting to do (making canvas costumes and painting them) and it was very rewarding to have it come to fruition. I've made myself wear it any chance I get to share it because it makes me happy and teaches me to be okay to be proud of what I have made. I am even working on others. Learning to do things for myself is a very hard lesson and learning to be proud of my own work is also hard, I have fear that I'll fall into those pitfalls of conceit or stagnation - so much so that I sometimes don't allow myself to have confidence in my own work. It's a "fun" paradox. Anyways had fun drawing while watching your vid - it was very ... communal :)HOpe things continue moving in the right direction for you and looking forward to the next video! *^_^*

It's always good to know that people around the world go through similar stages in life as you. And it's rather delightful to see your positive attitude about it. Every time I watch a people sketching video I get a lot of energy to keep going on. Right now I'm at the point where people are pushing me towards the thing I'm good at but not enjoy doing. So, yeah... Thank you for sharing your thoughts :)

Great to see you producing new videos. I wondered about your Inktober pieces. They flourished with imagination, I kind of thought you'd continue it as a possible collection. As I move forward with my own career I feel I'm always pushing towards a more fulfilling / workable workload. I feel a little bit closer everyday, I know part of it is being able to share my journey with other creatives who are on similar paths.

So glad to see another people sketching video! I don't know how, but I always tend to watch your videos at exactly the right time, so what you say really resonates with me. I know a lot about resistance and coming against barriers, and also how things come together when you get into alignment. I just recently moved to San Diego in march, and I've found I'm not too happy here. I think part of it is that I didn't move for the right reasons, or I was looking for the wrong things; I wanted to make money. Now I'm at the point where I've needed to step back and reevaluate where I am in life and where I want to be. I've decided to move back to the mountains for a few months, then move on from there to a job where I'll be able to save up for animation school. I've wanted to get into storyboarding for a long time, but was having some of the same reservations you're having now. So my friend and mentor who is a revisionist and storyboard artist told me to go for character design, which feels a lot more natural. Maybe that might be a good choice for you as well? I could definitely see you doing amazing things there! But I definitely feel like I'm starting to go towards that alignment again. Things are coming together, like my family actually pitching together to get me a professional tablet to work on, and I'm just generally feeling happier and more relaxed then I have in a while. Your video just came at a perfect time where I'm really trying to figure out where I stand and make the right moves from here. So thanks a bunch for taking the time to make this video. I definitely appreciate it, and know I'm not alone. Also, that little old lady was friggin' adorable!

I agree with many of the comments on here in that you really do provide a type of communal/hanging out with a friend feeling when I watch your videos. This subject hit at a good time for me to receive your thoughts. I'm currently struggling through finding my purpose and finding ways to make progress towards something every day. Thank you for stretching yourself out there and posting your people sketch videos. They are the top reason I check my youtube subscriptions. Even if I just have them on in the background, your infectious laugh always seeps through the noise and they're a great playlist to play over and over again while I'm drawing. Have'ta keep the positive vibes fresh in my head! :D

Loving your videos! Regarding the little old ladies with blue hair: they actually have blue hair because they use a purple shampoo that keeps their white hair from slowly turning dingy and yellow(from pollution, smoke, ect) . But, if you use it too often your hair turns blue/purple. :)

I appreciate your heart, talent and openness. The "total alignment" you speak of is referred to by Napoleon Hill as "definiteness of purpose". You're probably already familiar with that term as you mentioned him yourself. It is amazing, as if the universe itself is saying "You got it! You found your place in the world! Now I can open the floodgates to keep it flowing!" It's truly a great zone. But, as you say, difficult when you're not in that place. Perhaps we're just germinating, marinating... Blessings!

Wow, Will Terrell, I'm so happy I found you. Your talent is only rivaled by your worldly wisdom. The universe is so weird. Last year I went through an entire depressing year applying for jobs and not getting any at all. Not a peep. When I finally got a job offer I was stoked...only to receive another job offer a week later. I had to turn one down, when I had been struggling with no offers for months. Sometimes I feel it's all a cruel joke. :-)

She totally looks like my great grandma! Watching your videos in 2014, I grew a lot as an artist and that's when I decided I wanted to be an artist as a profession (until then I had been telling myself it was just a hobby). At the time, I was using the same old chisel tip prismacolor markers and really learned how to better my use of them from watching you color.I'm rewatching all your videos this week and drawing like crazy (like I did in 2014) and I wanted to let you know: Your videos inspire me to constantly better myself both as an artist and as a person (because the two go together) and you are one of my art heroes.

You were asking about past experience about beginner's luck. What I'm gonna say is not recent one, but it's something that's always in the back of my mind... When I started out in my passion, I was super young but I befriended one of my idol (turns out he was the boyfriend of a girl in my animation class). He was older. Anyhow. It was going well and he helped me a lot in my formative years. The events and opportunities he gave me are still some of my best, self-defining memories. Meanwhile, he was about to get his big break and I was getting intimidated by his success (and self-conscious). Then it got serious stupid quick (viral-like before it was a thing) and he became quite literally THE huge hit (not kidding, "THE"). It was insane and well-deserved. Meanwhile, I was going sideways and took what looked like that "good conflicting offer". I stalled and kept going into that different direction, gave up any links I had with my idol and just slowly died inside over the last 10 years doing something I got really good at but don't enjoy in the slightest. Eventually the success backfired spectacularly for the guy, and the fallout was just as immense as the rise. It's been years now, and still whenever someone mention his name, even in passing, it's a near guarantee of a gigantic unstoppable flame war. For a long time now, I just can't help but feel like this is a doomed in you do, doomed if you don't scenario. It's terrifying, yet I can't help but be... jealous I guess? At the same time I can't help but feel I share similar personality traits that would doom me too if I ever were to be even a fraction of his success. Fear of failure is frustrating, but fear of success? It's the worst... I wish I could just... get a coffee/beer with him, and hear the full story. But at the same time isn't that the epitome of selfishness, to try to get closure on something that haven't even happened to me? Am I a crazy stupid person? Hell, would he even remember me? God I must sound like some sort of giant hipster.

+Sebastien Cormier What your feeling is normal. I cant imagine what it would be like standing next to a skyrocket when it goes off. Amazing, bewildering... reminds me of the movie of the guy that started a band and wouldnt let Bono in, then U2 happened and he watched bewildered from the sidelines. Really, what you're feeling though, with that doomed feeling... it has to do with the type of energy you use to create. If one creates to get all the glory, all it does is build up your ego, so much so that you need ever greater supplies of ego and glory to sustain yourself... but its not sustainable, and everyone that lives that way eventually learns from it and changes.. or crashes and burns. I spent a lot of time trying to understand it from the same reasons you mentioned. In the end, i found a handful of mentors that I looked up to, that succeeded, that used a different kind of energy to fuel their success. It was extremely hard at first to change from ego to selflessness... nearly 10 years in fact... but it was worth the change for me. Now my success is measured not in how other people see me, but in how many lives I can make better along the way. And in doing that, I have no fear of it going way, or me crashing and burning.. because even if I had nothing, I would have and still could make the world a better place.
@sebbychou
@sebbychou 8 лет назад
+Will Terrell Thank you so much for replying. I never saw myself as doing it for the glory, but I guess in hindsight I might have become like that out of spite: The entirety of my professional life has been in the animation industry, even as a teen. I started by working as a fixer, taking on completely broken projects already past the deadline and working with a tiny group of individuals to salvage it as efficiently and quickly as possible. Then I pigeonholed myself as an animator because I was good at it. All this time, I always only worked on other people's stuff, and until very recently I wasn't even credited for it due to tax or contractual reasons. The beginning half of my career feels like I was preventing talentless hacks from sinking, which got me good enough to switch to help really awesome people keep rising. I have to admit I got bitter about not being to take ownership for my work, even though I genuinely enjoy helping other succeed. Thanks again for giving me the opportunity to both think about it, and talk about it. These last few weeks you've actually managed to get me drawing again, and more importantly enjoying doing it, btw. In the end, I suppose the only real roadblock between me and my dream is the same you had back then in these later videos: Having the experience, but not the portfolio to back it up. Being stuck with the deadline mentality and not keeping at it long enough for things to be successful. (As for the fear of success, it's not about crashing and burning. Rather it's how terrifying people can be when they stop seeing you as a flesh-and-blood person)
@WillTerrell
@WillTerrell 8 лет назад
Sebastien Cormier This can be an opportunity. The world is good at making us feel like we have to constantly react, but living that way means you're not living on purpose. so think from the end, if you could do anything, what would you want to end up doing 10 or 20 years from now? And how can you do one thing each day to move you towards that? Or another way of looking at it... whats the ONE thing I can do today.. that will make the biggest difference in my life 5 years from now? I dont believe in accidents, all that you've been through in the earlier part of your career, has prepared you to be the badass for the rest of your career. Even the bits your sour about, will someday be your strength that makes you even better at what you do moving forward. The hard part is figuring out what you actually want that to be.

Funny enough, most hairless cats don't have whiskers. They also feel like fine velvet :3 I have been drawing every single day since I started watching your people sketching videos, thanks for the inspiration!

I'm sort of in the boat where I've been working towards this dream I have for around 2 years. . . with practically 0 success so far to show for it. Haha. Most days it's the hardest thing in the world to just pick up the pencil and draw because there's just that ominous attitude of "why even bother? nobody really gives a damn.". But the thing that keeps me going is seeing how far I've come from where I was, and I can just hope that eventually I'll reach that point where people will see something in my work that makes them pay attention. The artist's life is a highly underestimated stress-inducer, that much is for certain. Haha! Also part of my issue is being so critical of my own work because I have this image in my head of what I want my works to look like and represent, and not being able to achieve that is. . . nicely put, "nerve-wracking".

I Always love the people sketching video's. It's great that you mentioned Napoleon Hill. A lot of life problems can be summed up with negative thinking. If you're feeling torn between storyboards and comics try looking for the best possible and try to go for that. Don't look at your current state of wealth, emotion or succes because those can change rapidly. I learned that in a book called "100 ways to motivate yourself by Steve Chandler".

You're an amazing artist I always wanted to do art for a living (I'm currently a 15 year old junior in high school) and I never knew how to go about it. Ever since I found your channel (probably about 4 months ago or so) I've been really pumped about learning to become an illustrator. Thank you for all the motivation man, keep doing your thing. Btw, your style is dope.
