My life with MND. New video now out, will be making more in the next few weeks :)
If anyone would like me to make another video on any updates, or answer any questions on my life living with MND just ask. I'd be happy to make another video even if it's only for one person. I also made a Tumblr account where I'll be putting diary entries on my daily life with MND, maybe it'll help one of you? link to my Tumblr is below...
www.tumblr.com/blog/dealingwit...
Also, my email got hacked, and logging into RU-vid has been a bit of a pain, so I might be making a new RU-vid account and continue my videos on there, but I shall keep you posted. Thanks so much for the messages and the kind words, you've all helped so much. For any new people watching this vid, don't hesitate to inbox me :)

My father got diagnosed with MND last October, and in that time he's completely lost his voice and it's absolutely breaking me. I just can't seem to get to grips with it all. Thankyou for making this video because it does help me and other people realise that we're not alone, actually hearing someone speak about it does help. I hope you and your family are doing okay.

Thank you for the comment Lucy, I really appreciate it 😊 really sorry to hear about your father, it's incredibly difficult to go through but it'll make you even stronger as a family and together you'll over come and struggles that lay ahead. I wanna make another video when I am finally back home, can you think of any ideas that may be able to help yourself?

My Nan lost her fight to MND 5 years ago. I'm now doing charity work to support the MND Association and to spread awareness, as many people have never heard of the illness. Seeing videos like this, knowing that there are other people going through the same thing really makes a difference, so I'd like to say thankyou for sharing your experiences with this horrific disease. I wish you and your family all the love in the world through tough moments like these. All the best x

Sorry to hear about your Nan passing away. It's a tough and crappy battle. I'm glad you are raising awareness, I try to do a little charity work myself. Would one day like to try a marathon, but I need to get a whole lot fitter first! wishing yourself and your family all the best x

So sorry for your dad and you and the rest of your family. You have a hard road ahead sadly, my wonderful mum was diagnosed with this hateful cruel dreadful disease in June 2010 and she passed away in November 2011 she fought it all the way but you cant win with it. She was only 62 was fit and healthy it just came out of nowhere. I feel so sorry for all the people and families who have to endure this awful disease. Please continue to raise awareness. It is so underexposed with limited funds.

My mum died from Motor Neurone Disease 18 years ago today when I was 22.She was 61 and suffered with it for 5 years. Me and my dad used to do most of the caring for her ourselves. She didn't lose her speech but couldn't do anything for herself. It's an awful disease to deal with. I understand what it's like and what you're going through.

I'm very sorry to hear about your mum, I struggle to deal with it at 18, I can hardly imagine having to deal with it all at 13, but you are very strong for getting through it. And I agree with what you say, it's all about making the best out of every day :) Thank you for the comment was very nice of you, I hope you and your family are coping okay at present times, if ever you'd like a chat I'm only an email away

hello Ben. hope your well. i have an uncle who has MND... every day he's getting worse and worse. i don't know what to do. i try to keep things really normal, but he just breaks down all the time. its just so tough. i never knew such disease existed... we need more videos like your, just to help others cope.. and just to talk about it. means a lot. wishing you all the best, and your family, lots of love.
@TheDrOctopus
@TheDrOctopus 9 лет назад
I'm sorry to hear about your uncle getting this dreadful disease. It's such a difficult disease to deal with. The first few months were really difficult for my dad and he was really angry and finding it hard to manage his emotions. Then his mood changed as he grew more accepting of the situation. It didn't exactly make him feel better but it gave him a slightly more positive out look on what is a very negative position to be in. As your uncle adapts to the disease you may find he starts to become calmer like my dad did. Everyone deals with it in different ways and it's such a hard thing to manage. Best thing you can do is try to keep things as normal as you can. My dad just wanted to try and forget about the disease as much as he could so we would always watch films together, I'd take him for walks in his wheel chair if I could. Your all hanging in there really well, just stay strong and spend as much time together as possible. Spending time together was the thing that made my dad want to live as long as he did, and he said gave him the best quality of life that he could have had. Sending my love to all of you through this dark and complicated time

thank you so much Ben, your advise means a lot. we watched Fawlty towers today.. he just cried and laughed. Hes getting a lift fitted in and a ramp outside the house. lets take it one day at a time. xx thank you.

Sounds very similar to my dad too. We had a big ramp outside as well which was a massive help. Watching tv is a great way to escape it for at least half an hour. Great way to spend time together as a family also. You're all doing the right things and all incredibly strong. Hang in there and if you need any advice or a chat I'm only a message away xx

Aimee Bieber Hello Aimee sorry for the late reply. Very sorry to hear about your mother, MND is a absolutely horrible disease :/ I hope you and your family are all coping okay despite such terrible times. It's tough here but we just try to take each day as it comes. Some are better than others but mostly I just feel frustrated and confused. Sure hope future generations never have to endure this. Sending my love and support to yourself and all your family

That's terrible.. It was bad enough for me when I was 18 I can't imagine dealing with all this being even younger. It certainly makes you grow up way faster.. I hope you and your family are all coping okay, I hope university can give you a fresh new start I'm wishing you all the best buddy

I'm 13 and my dad is currently fighting MND. it sucks to see him not be able to socialise and talk to my friends parents. I also keep in mind that he may not see me graduate and go to university so I just have to try my hardest in everything I do while he's around so he can be proud of me. Although, I always tell myself that things could be worse and that it is great that he can still walk around. I miss having conversations with him about my rugby games and the news but I think it is great that he cam still come and watch. Also thanks for the video it made me feel a lot better about the whole situation.
@TheDrOctopus

My heart really goes out to you mate. I was 18 when my dad was diagnosed and had a lot more life experience and I found that insanely hard. I can't imagine going through it all at an even younger age. You're coping extremely well though and your outlook on the situation is inspirational. Nothing I say can really help or make things any better but take every day to remember how much you mean to your dad and how much he means to you. He'll be insanely proud of you. Live for the moment and make sure you spend plenty of time together doing whatever you can, even if it's just watching films. Also take a little time to yourself every now and then for a breather. Take care, my love goes out to yourself and all of your family. You'll get very far in life and your dad will always know that

I hope you and your family stay positive and strong. My mum got it about four years ago and passed away two years ago. Its really hard, especially because when she passed away i was only thirteen. It's just so unfair, but all i can say is that you need to value all the time you have left with your dad, because i always wish i had the chance to relive the time when my mum was sick, because i was always out. Stay strong, its hard but you will get through it.

Sorry to hear about your dad!! My mum was diagnosed with motor neurone disease last November and im just looking through youtube to see other families stories. I'm very sorry to hear that... It sounds like he was diagnosed similar time and had it for roughly the same amount of time as my dad before being diagnosed. I hope you and your family are coping as well as what's possible. When you have a really bad day don't hesitate to inbox me. Hey Andy, I'm sure it's still very hard, I'd imagine it takes years and years to be able to take the next day that little bit easier, but after all your help and support I'm sure your mum passed away very proud and very grateful to yourself and the rest of your family, and it sounds like you did all you could do to make things as comfortable as possible for her. I'm from the Kent area, how about yourself? it seems common in Kent unfortunately :/ we have nurses round a fair bit too

I'm very sorry to hear about your father. I can completely relate to how you're feeling too. When my friends ask how my dad is I give a brief reply and change the subject, mostly because I don't feel they'd fully understand it all, and it's just not worth talking to them about it. However now you know someone who genuinely understands what you're going through, so when you feel like you've got no one to talk to, never hesitate to send me a message, I'm more than happy to talk to you :)

Yes she had the peg fitted as she lost her appetite, she wasn't keen at first about having it fitted, but once she did she was ok with it. I done all the feeding & medication through the peg with a syringe 3 times a day for 6 weeks it extended her life & she was happy to have the extra time with us & as us with her. I was trying to keep her going till xmas but unfortunately she didn't make it, the last week of her life wasn't good at all. She had the love of her family around her until the end.

Ah cool yeah not too far at all! unfortunately my father doesn't wish to have a PEG fitted :/ he doesn't want anything that will make him live any longer than he has to, since there's no hope of a cure. It's hard to think about, but I guess it's all about quality of life. It can be hard to keep him happy at the best of times and the PEG would just put his mood lower :/ did your mother have one fitted? if so how did she find it? I hope you are well

You can only be positive about MND if you are old. To be 60 and lose 20 years is not the same as being in your 20s and losing 60 years. For the avarage patient this perspective works. They can also think about how their lives would have been getting it in their 20s or 30s. Nobody in their 70s or beyond should feel like it was an injustice that they got it, when some get it in their 20s. Having MND old is a horrible ending, having it in your 20s is a horrible life.

Hello Harry, in some of my other videos I mention a few ways that I try to deal with sadness and depression, and hopefully you may find them useful. A few ways that work for me are to keep busy and productive, however you may find that talking about problems may work for yourself. If you'd like to do that feel free to message me and I'll happily listen, and will be able to relate to your problems. I hope you find this of some use. Take care and I hope you find a way that works for you :)

Hi Ben, Im from Hong Kong and I think i have some of the symptoms of the mnd So basically when im holding light things, my hand always vibrates and its really annoying. And when Im writting my hand vibrates too but my handwriting is still the same as before, so its not a problem. Im just worried that I might have it. By the way, I am so sorry that your dad has MND. If you read this, please reply. Yours faithfully, Harold

Hello buddy was literally in Hong Kong 12 hours ago! In regards to symptoms I had something similar when my father was Ill. My hand would always twitch and shake. It went on for a few months and the more i noticed it the worse it got. I think it was a mix of high stress and also me believing that there was something wrong with me and my body reacting to that like a vicious circle. If you notice any muscle weakness, or an inability to grip things or hold things without dropping them then I'd go and see a doctor for further advice. If it is just vibrations and twitching it may be nothing like mine. Although if you notice it getting worse or you can't grip things etc then see a doctor. Personally, I wouldn't be too concerned by it. For me it went away and was mostly of my own subconscious doing but as I said if it continues and it is really worrying pop in and see the doctor.

Haha how was Hong Kong did you try the dim sum? And my calfs are always tight and I cant relax in that area. Or is it just my subconscious' doing again?
@TheDrOctopus
@TheDrOctopus 9 лет назад
Unfortunately it was just a stop over flight returning from the Philippines, although seeing Hong Kong is on my to visit list for the future 😊 tight calfs may also be all down to stress. People carry tension in different areas. For me I carry tension in my shoulders. Best thing to do is get a deep tissue massage as it is most likely just stress. Don't worry yourself as I don't think these are anything to worry about as far as I have seen. It's stuff I have been through and I'm okay but if any other symptoms grow consult a doctor just to confirm 😊

Hare Bell I’m not too bad thank you, still struggle every now and then but life’s got me busy which is good and the future is looking okay, so I’m staying optimistic :) don’t think I’ll ever be fully okay after everything but things are getting better and I know that’s what my dad would have wanted. Hope everything is okay your end also?
