Stephen, the host of "Surviving Schizophrenia with Stephen," opens his video with a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of schizophrenia. Despite feeling optimistic and sociable in his previous video, Stephen now finds himself in a different mental state, highlighting the fluctuating nature of his condition.
The Rollercoaster of Schizophrenia
Emotional and Mental Stress: Stephen describes his current state as one of exhaustion and drain, emphasizing that this experience isn't new to him. Having lived with schizophrenia since the age of 12, he's well-acquainted with its ups and downs. He explains that schizophrenia isn't a linear journey but rather a series of fluctuations that can sometimes lead to depression and sadness, regardless of how he felt previously.
Birthday Blues: As Stephen approaches his 25th birthday, he shares his struggles with this typically celebratory occasion. For him, birthdays are challenging due to societal expectations of happiness and celebration. He contrasts his reality with the idealized version of birthdays, noting that his anxiety often prevents him from enjoying social gatherings.
A Day in the Life
Shopping Trip Challenges: Stephen recounts a recent shopping trip with his mother, which became overwhelming. After lunch at the mall, he reached his mental limit, unable to complete their planned activities. He experienced cognitive difficulties, struggling to think clearly and even forgetting a name for several minutes. This incident served as a clear indicator of his stressed and mentally fatigued state.
Sensory Overload: The mental struggle exacerbates Stephen's anxiety, creating a self-perpetuating cycle of stress. He describes how even small things become challenging, such as the sound of vacuuming causing increased stress. Stephen also mentions having misophonia, which makes certain noises particularly bothersome.
Coping Strategies
Distraction Techniques: To manage his stress and anxiety, Stephen employs distraction techniques. After recording his videos, he typically engages in light, enjoyable activities such as watching comedies or playing video games. He specifically mentions Pokemon as a helpful escape, allowing him to temporarily forget about his schizophrenia.
Gradual Recovery: Stephen emphasizes that these coping mechanisms help reduce his stress over time, allowing him to gradually return to a more stable state. He acknowledges that setbacks can occur even during periods of relative wellness but remains optimistic about his ability to feel better again.
Progress and Support
Channel Impact: Stephen credits his RU-vid channel and the support of his viewers with significant improvements in his condition. He notes more progress in the two-and-a-half years since starting his channel than in the previous decade, though he still grapples with anxiety, stress, and depression.
Family Support: Looking forward to an upcoming family visit, Stephen expresses gratitude for his family's unwavering support throughout his journey with schizophrenia. He acknowledges their crucial role in helping him through some of the darkest times in his life.
Conclusion
Stephen concludes by thanking his viewers and apologizing for the potentially downbeat nature of the video. He emphasizes the importance of showing every aspect of living with schizophrenia, providing a honest and comprehensive view of his experiences. The video serves as a powerful testament to the complex reality of living with schizophrenia, showcasing both the challenges and the resilience required to navigate this condition.

Happy birthday, Stephen! I'm so touched that as lousy as you feel, you still express to us that you hope we have a healthy and happy day. You're so kind in that way. You're so blessed to have such a supportive family, and it sounds like they know how much you love them and appreciate them. Keep on truckin' and I hope you get through this rough spell soon. 😊

Sending you love, Stephen, today and on your birthday! Embrace joy whenever it happens bc it is fleeting for us all. Maybe let go of your idea of what an ideal birthday should be, and try to be grateful for simply living another day. But I feel you, and you're so brave for sharing yourself, especially when you're having a less than good day. You're a bright young man, and I'm proud of you on so many levels. You got this 💪

Carnivore helps hugely with it…my ex husband also has it, but when he eats meat, such as steaks and hamburger, eggs, and or bacon. Basically the cow meat is the best…everything the medical, and food industry doesn’t want people to know the truth about their way of eating. My mother and I were introduced to it through RU-vid videos on carnivore…there are true, real doctors who are supporting the carnivore only, or at least mostly carnivore, there’s also Ketovore, very low carb lifestyle. Please, please check it out, you won’t be disappointed. My mom and I reversed diabetes, high blood pressure, noropothy , depression, arthritis pain, brain fog, very low energy, and sadness…it’s all been reversed now for both of us. My mom’s 80, I’m 60…you might get flack from others, but give it 30 days, I did it and now I’ll never go back to my former standard American diet, or what we call the SAD diet. You’ll be pleasantly surprised and happy you did.

Yes, trying a gluten free diet may help. Something to do with wheat causing inflammation in the body especially if O blood type. Stephen, have you ever had a test for hypothyroidism. As I understand this condition could cause depression.

Steven the full moon phases do affect our mental status. With schizophrenia it can push you down in your thoughts like your having here. Try not to visualize what you feel a particular day should be like your birthday. I believe its just memories from childhood that your thinking birthdays should be as an adult. Perhaps try wearing a headset with music playing to drown out noises that irritate you. Your a strong young man and you've got this! When your feeling stressed please try to go out in nature where theres no people. Find a big beautiful tree, take off shoes and socks. Sit there with your bare feet on the grass to ground yourself again. Do this for at least 20 minutes honey. Also change up your diet. No canned foods, no pre-processed foods. Drink homemade green tea, limit soda to one a day if you must have it. Our diets have alot to do with how we feel. If your not tak8ng D3 vitamen please add that to your daily routine. This alone will help with any anxiety and depression. Dont be so hard on yourself when theze feelings arise. Finding what can help lift your spirits again will help you get through these times. Stay blessed young man ❤ 🫂
