Well, in fairness, I have seen plenty of interviews that sound like this. Ministers, especially Junior ministers, will often answer one-to-one interviews with this technique because they know the reporter will report what they said because it is the *only* thing they said. But what Liz Truss doesn't seem to have grasped is that doesn't work in a live Press Conference setting when you're Prime Minister - because loads of people are watching and it looks weird as heck.

Interviewer: “So Liz Truss, can you explain why you have U-Turned on your core tax policy?" Liz:" So we have to deliver the mission because Nicola Sturgeon is bad and wrong because she is in the anti growth coalition and breaking something up is not the same as growth, and we have to accept in the national interest that I took a brave decision not to move forward with our pork markets in Beijing".
