No female entertainer can ever be compared to liza with a z. She doesnt just perform, she gives her heart and soul.there will be millions of entertainers, but only one liza.
I'm a Huge Liza fan.. but I found this compilation very revealing ... Grounding or sobering may be some adjectives... but Thank you for the peek into reality.., it's a reminder that She is cosmically human... and yet... still so loveable for all her magnificent achievements.... Proof in the pudding that nothing comes easy!! We will always luv' you to death LiZa with a Z
An amazing performer…she could sing, dance, act…a joy to see in person…and to this day…no one can dance Fosse like Liza…the consummate performer…no one these days even comes close!
Liza singing "A Quiet Thing" from Flora, the Red Menace is absolutely beautiful and shows what a versatile voice she had when she chose to exercise it. That being said, she is one of the greatest live performers ever! Liza takes no prisoners...!!
Yes, she made it in NY NY and also everywhere. Some decades ago she was perfecto awesome, now she is maybe imperfecto awesome, but kudos for sharing with us, at 75 or so, what a legendary talent she will always be, and she has endured longer than most at this! Love n Thanks Liza.
One of the great live performers for many years, but she has never been much of a record seller. As her vibrato took over, her voice actually became a challenge to admire. Even when young, she never had the delicate beauty of her mother's early vocals, but she's a hell of an entertainer.
Well said. The vibrato became a full-fledged wobble, and she was frequently off pitch, especially in full voice. She danced magnificently, and had such high energy that people didn't seem to notice. I was an opera singer, so I did.
Wonderful holidays and merry Christmas to you right now I'm having macaroni with mozzarella cheese cornbread steak and cranberry with gravy and a roll have a wonderful wonderful holiday I know I am God bless 👍💯🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
She's such a brave and theatrical performer. She puts everything into it, takes more than her share of chances, and refuses to compromise the integrity of what she does. The only disadvantage is that her voice is so unique and commanding she does not 'blend' as well for duets.
It was written for Liza by Kander and Ebb for her starring role in the movie New York, New York, which was also written especially for her…and predated Sinatra’s recording of the NY NY movie theme song. Liza’s recording never became a commercial successes, but became a staple of her stage concerts that audiences absolutely demanded that she sing. Sinatra’s later recording became a big commercial hit, which made the public believe the song was written for him, but not true.
Yes, as your video shows, Liza is known as a "belter", and in her prime, she could knock a song out of the park better than anyone. Unfortunately, belting has become Liza's own stereotype and she had so much more to offer that's almost now forgotten. She had, for many years, a truly supple, beautiful and rich voice for singing ballads and lyrical songs. That for me, showed Liza at her most vocally gifted. The belting sold tickets and made for show stopping numbers, and unfortunately took it's toll on her voice's other side too early. She is still 100% Liza and that's why we love her.
Yes, she could also deliver softer songs very well, and in her concerts she delivered it all : Energy, Emotion, Dance and Entertainment. The voice problems started in the 90s. I think it is a mix of overbelting, way too much cigarettes, alcohol and of course her massive health breakdown when the doctors told her she might never be able to perform again. But she has given us so much, she was a big inspiration for me
i DON'T KNOW HOW YOU DO IT MATTEO, BUT THIS IS WONDERFUL. YOU MUST HAVE THE PATIENCE OF A SAINT TO PUT ALL OF THIS TOGETHER. IT DOES MAKE ME REALIZE HOW OLD I AM, BUT THAT'S OKAY BECAUSE I'VE SEEN THE BEAST ENTERTAINERS IN MY GENERATION. aND LIZA WAS AND IS ONE OF THEM. SHE HAS GROWN UP IN THE PUBLIC EYE JUST LIKE HER MOTHER JUDY GARLAND. AND I BELIEVE THAT, THAT IS THE SECRET OF HER POPULARITY AND STAYING POWER.
Whenever she sustains a note, it goes under the pitch, especially at full volume. She should have worked that out when she was young. STILL, I heard her in New York in 2005 in Liza's At The Palace, and it was one of the most electrifying theatrical experiences I've ever had. Brava Liza!!!!!
An absolute legendary performer, possibly one of the greatest entertainers ever. Apart from the well documented lifestyle and health issues that obviously contributed to her vocal decline, I also think that she would have benefited from some lessons in technique. That may have changed the character of her voice a bit but would have served her well. The other thing I have never understood is the early arrangements, some of them are clearly outside of her range and resulted in vocal strain, the damage from which isn't so evident when you are young but as you get older, the problems start. Her 1987 Carnegie Hall recording is her magnum opus in my opinion. She never sounded better. Sadly when I finally got to see her live she was not long after an illness and married to David Gest. It was a little bit of a sorry spectacle but star power and presence by the bucket load ❤️
Liza Minelli..fue es y será la Reina Music Hall..nadie camina el escenario..con esa prestancia.bella potente seductora..y con un mágica voz..Luz y Paz..para está mujer maravillosa.
A stupendous performer - but one can see why she must be a nightmare to live with. So much nervous energy and emotional excess are bound to go wrong - and where else but off stage. She was at her most attractive in her 40s.
Liza is the only person who ever made her mother nervous onstage so I'm inclined to agree with you in the technical sense, but I think her mother topped her in sheer presence. Judy Garland could floor an audience just walking out onstage...lol. I think both of them are each other's only true competition (if you can call it that).
Лайза настоящая звезда. Это не только «Кабаре» или «Нью Йорк,Нью Йорк». Но и песни из мюзикла ее отца. Она потрясающий пример того,что на детях иногда природа не отдыхает.
Interesting - I'd only interject that her vocal surgery in '95/'96 did irreperable harm to her voice. Same procedure and same damn surgeon who also ruined Julie Andrews' voice. She could never sing fully again - but somehow kept going and doing her best with what she had. Truly a trooper and a simply amazing, astonishing, magnificent woman.
@@TEOCALE Also add a lifetime of cigarette smoking and poor vocal technique/too much belting. Her voice also never properly healed after nodule removal surgery because she didn't take sufficient time off to rest and didn't stop smoking.
@@ryancmt Too much belting doesn’t lead to the kind of vocal damage Liza had. Plenty of singers did as much belting or more but kept their voices. Liza’s technique was never the best, but it wasn’t poor either. I think it has more to do with drugs and abuse.
Every song she does is loud and screamerish. Pity. Littly intimacy. Great voice, looks and stage personality. At 22.40 ? Is that a gorgeous looking Joan Collins 80+ ? Joan and Liza. What a couple.
"A New Life", ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3kNiCdjq9zY.html, "I Don't Want Him, You Can Have Him" and "Somewhere Out There" from the second Carnegie Album, "So Sorry I Said" from Results..."There Goes the Ball Game" and "Once in a While" from NY, NY... there are a dozen more quiet, subtle renderings that the selections here do not feature.
So many times some idiot’s put her in big arenas insted of Theater in europe ! I saw her in a berlin 02 arena in 2004 and that was a joke i think we are in almost 700 people in a 20.000 arena ! 🤣
@@ilovemovies725 Radio City isn't small, but it's not an arena. It could suit a singer like Liza, but might be somewhat too big. I see her more at Carnegie Hall or Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center.
Ugh, her voice was always all over the place, undisciplined and obnoxious, like a comedian deliberately over emphasizing expressive notes, word pronunciation, and vibrato as part of a silly routine, just like her mother, Judy Garland, did. Judy sounded lovely in the Wizard of Oz when she sang Over the Rainbow, which proves that she was capable of sounding far better than the sound of this goofy over expression which, sadly, became the trademark sound for both mother and daughter. Why would any singer sound this bad on purpose? Such bizarre women!
I’m NOT impressed at all with her techniques You don’t block your mouth with your other hand while holding a mic when belting-out a song? She just got lucky having famous parents but without them, 👎🏻. She won’t even survive in today’s singing competitions.
She's not in today's singing competion, mind you. She's a retired, handicapped elderly lady of 76 and she only sings when famous friends like Feinstein ask her to sing one or two quiet songs in a duo on stage. Today's singing competition, really !!!
