Conan’s like the class clown suddenly getting shy around the prettiest girl in school here. He really wanted to make Liza feel at ease and toned down the chaos for her. Adorable.
Also the fact he even includes her in things says alot. Conan is a deeply caring person. You don't see Jimmy Fallon doing that. He made Shis secretary famous when he didn't have to. He likes genuine people and rewards them for it. It's not a front either I bet Andy Richter would agree.
@@zzzzzz3708 I'm soooo not a Fallon fan, but watch his lockdown episodes - you see a really different side of him. Especially the segment where he and his wife go for walks and answer questions. Really sweet. And again, not a fan of his.
Nope, you misread this whole thing. If you cannot see, then you are blind. It's obviously evident that Conan is not happy in his relationship. He is blatantly not as happy or interested in his wife. You can see his body language, his arm is extended towards sona, and he's sorta postured upright towards his wife. I'm almost positive, he has had sometype of ongoing affair with sona. They are way to close and comfortable to be just friends or co workers. It's been plain to see for years. Maybe they have cut it out now because sona got married and is getting older, but if you look back at their relationship, something is going on. He purposely chose her to be his little side kick thru out the years, and what do ya know? Now he's doing a podcast and who's coming along? Sona. You could try and say it's like a Howard and Robin duo, but these two have too much energy. If you were to watch their podcast without knowing who she was, you might assume she is his partner. He barely brings up his wife, a d when she comes on the pod , he acts plain and sorta bothered. She obviously must be concerned as well, even if she knows sona, she must be picking up on the vibe. It's not uncommon at all for these hotshot celebs to have mistress and assistants. I'm getting a slight monica Lewinsky vibe between these two. And if that's true, then connan is a scumbag, big-time. You can think what you want, I've picked up on this years ago. Imo the guy is possibly sometype of narcissist weirdo, just like many actors and stars, masking himself behind comedy. Also if you didn't know, this guy was in sometype of skull and bones fraternity type groups at Harvard..he is no average Joe smoe. He has big-time connections from day one. Yes he's a great entertainer but you better keep an eye on him
Conan's whole body language says it all. I've never seen him so self-aware on camera. He probably had a very hard time balancing his public persona and who he really is with his wife there.
I mean they’re still on camera and on mic so you’re not seeing “who he really is,” I think he’s just being more serious bc he cares about her project and she’s not in the entertainment industry like Matt and sona and normal guests
Yup-- with everyone parasocially going on about the "down-to-earthness" and "wholesomeness" of this clip (or what "an absolute treat" it must be for Matt and Sona-- what?!), it's most interesting seeing the two worlds collide. It kind of reminds me of when your parents meet your dorm friends.
Conan would be UNHINGED if not for Liza and her ability to dampen the Chernobyl levels of chaos he radiates. What an absolute treat for Sona and Matt. I’m sure they’ll treasure this episode for life.
I love how Sona doesn’t have a single piece of paper on the table… everyone else has (what I assume are) tons of notes on the structure of the podcast, important talking points, etc… Sona is just there to chill and drive Conan mad
I now want Conan to launch another podcast called Insignificant Others based on people who had little to no impact on slightly famous historical figures.
I realise that whenever Conan talks about his wife be it during interviews, his talkshow, or podcast, he will always have sweet and nice things to say about her. His love and respect for Liza is so sincere… And I always find it wholesome that the fearless Sona always show genuine respect and admiration for Liza too
Liza O'Brien's "Significant Others" podcast is fabulous. Her research of the subject matter is intense. She treats historical material using modern analogies and language that make each episode contemporary and very relatable. I'm hooked!
Shows how much he respects his wife, and almost doesn't want to embarrass her in person, even though he's an absolute clown on TV. His first bit with her decades ago, he was just as muted, and they weren't even married.
This was so sweet! It’s precious to see Conan hold the utmost respect for his wife who is clearly a calm and intelligent force to be reckoned with and has such a sharp sense of humor to pair it with. They are both so lucky to have each other.
Liza's one of those people that you talk to or listen to her for a few minutes and immediately have respect for. She seems so down to earth and humble and yet exudes such intelligence and confidence
I can somehow feel Conan's discomfort to have a proper conversation with her own wife, at his own playground of mischief. But he is really supportive of Liza
I love how they’re all on their best behaviour for this because Liza is there - a change from me listening to the 1st Summer S’mores episode lol That’s great
For anyone saying Conan is being too relaxed or not making enough jokes in this interview if you actually think about it it’s very sweet. I have the same goofy, anything for a good joke personality and when I’m around people I feel the safest around and don’t need to impress cause I know they love me, I usually act the way he’s acting. There’s no performance piece, this is just Conan. ❤️
It’s interesting to hear a recording of Liza describe how they met and got together, when Conan wasn’t there. She describes how she’d rarely watched his show, started watching when they were getting to know each other, but then had to stop watching because she felt weird not being able to participate in the conversations he was having on the screen. I got the impression that his onscreen persona is so different from what it’s like to hang out with him IRL that it was just too weird for her. So she stopped watching. That’s a great chat. (She was an advertising copywriter, and he’s a writer, so it seems like they had a lot in common.) So it makes sense that he’s much more low-key in this episode, it’s probably much more what he’s like when he’s not “on.” I like him much better this way, he’s often a bit too manic for my taste.
Very similar vibe as Stephen Colbert anytime he interacts with his wife on camera. Clearly in love but also a little shy/nervous having them around in this arena. Like other people said, interacting with their spouse without the tv persona
Such a profound comment! I wonder how Conan's career would've went without Liza. Thankfully, they found each other and Conan's audience gets benefits too. 🙂
I love seeing the respect and love he has for his wife. It's fantastic that even after 20 years he obviously adores her and she definitely keeps him grounded.
i was literally listening to the podcast last night where liza talks about how she met conan and she seemed so kind and interesting what a coincidence that this video has been posted and i will be supporting her podcast! her voice is definitely perfect for storytelling and i want to learn more about these huge historical figures.
I listened to it as well. It was a very sweet story and I liked how she said her and Conan meeting and everything they’ve gone through together would’ve never happened at all if Hilton didn’t take a chainsaw to his furniture 😂
Well…speaking as someone that is totally wound WAY too tight, my husband is super calm, even tempered, he would barely register as alive on an EKG. So after your comment I asked him what the hell he was doing with me, because even after all these years I have zero clue, and he said he “enjoys the vivid experience.” 😂
Is this one whole episode? I hope we get one if this is not a whole episode. Nothing like a "wait did i miss this in the podcast" knee jerk reaction to wake you up at night.
She is an absolute ROCKSTAR to put up with him. and i just love how much you can tell they really love eachother! I wouldnt be surprised if Conan/Liza were SUPER close friends with Nick/Meghan
Since Conan’s podcast started, I’ve been kind of fascinated by Liza, and I’m thrilled to finally get to see/hear her in person, and she really does seems as awesome and Conan and Sona made her out to be. I’ve subscribed to her podcast, and look forward to listening to it.
I heard stories about Conan pulling over on road trips to read about the history of the local attractions so this type of NPR podcast is right up his alley.
Just finished watching "First Lady" on Apple TV and I wished there was more of that! So excited to hear that a whole podcast based on this is coming out! Can't wait!
I love her podcast. Can't wait for the rest of the episodes to drop! she's so good too like she's been broadcasting for ages. Glad she's doing her thing. The podcast is brilliant!
I just listened to the first episode and I’m hooked, so well done. I’m starting the second one right now! Man, listening to Kasturba’s story was painful and eye opening. The conversation afterwards was awesome, too. I can’t wait to hear the others!
Wow! Conan really married up. I have listened to Significant Others & l absolutely LOVE the show. Liza is so intelligent & she gives a lot of credit to people who assist with the show. 💓💕❤️🤓
Just listened to both of the episodes that have been released so far. Conan: I know you always call Liza your better half and thank God she came into your life but I mean REALLY! That was so eloquent and interesting and phenomenal!! Liza: you are incredible a) for putting up with (and supporting) Conan for all of these years and b) for your work, your brilliant mind and your calming presence. Now I know why Sona always says that her favorite thing about you, Conan, is Liza!
I would absolutely listen to that...Abigail Adams is someone who really comes to mind. An equal in intellect and position at a time where women were considered anything but equal.
This man is super rich. When you have a partner that their present simply brings you joy to your life like you are paradise is simply blissful. Salute to all people who have their person.
I still absolutely love that we saw the very beginnings of this relationship accidentally during a remote. I still want to know who the cameraman that zoomed in on her was.......then panned to Conan giving him a stern look while slightly shaking his head. That dude knew something was happening. I also love that it's a relationship almost completely not-for-the-public........other than rare instances such as this.
Interesting to see Conan's personality here is who he is when he's not ON. There IS a necessity for him to BE a bit of a crazy person in order to entertain us and THAT'S who we think he actually IS. Liza being present pulls him out of the crazy and we get to see the calm intellectual guy for just a moment.
WOW i just listened to my 1st episode of her podcast! it is soooo good on so many levels!!! moved me to tears 💚 Such a nice balance to the good humors 🧡🤍🧡🤍
☺️ This makes me so happy, thank you!! I’ve always been so interested in and intrigued by the significant others of, not only historical figures, but also those of folks like Steven Colbert, Jon Stewart, The Coco Man, and many other modern ones…wondering what their wives/partners were like. So thank you very much, this was a great idea!!
It’s fascinating how Conan very rarely makes eye contact with Liza, even when he’s talking about her project or talking to her. I suspect it’s his innate shyness, respect and love for her that prevents him from doing so. Very sweet.
I feel like this is very meta, like I'm watching "Significant others" of Conan and his wife - as a precursor to watching & listening to her podcast. In a good way, thanks for supporting
I love the concept of this. Gives me Gladwell vibes. I’m kind of tired of the main players, but I love hearing about the ones right next to the main character in history. Lyndon Johnson’s wife would be interesting seeing that Johnson was full of contradictions. I wonder how his wife played a part in influencing him and putting up with him.
I'm not kidding but i have deep roots in Gandhi's place of birth, my dad's family was like a couple villages away. And as an Indian and as someone from the same regional and language background as Gandhi, when i went to visit his house which is now a UN historical site and when i learned about Kasturba (Ba at end of her name was a suffix, meaning Mother in Gujurati was given to her by the people), i was stunned. To say she was one of the strongest, most hard-working and virtuous women in history, would be an understatement
He brings enjoyable chaos, shes brings reason, class & clarity lol. He brings lightheartedness & humor, she brings seriousness & peace. I love this duo! They’re a pretty good balance :) I do wonder sometimes though if he gets bored. And if she gets annoyed or overwhelmed. She is very calm & together. Kind of serious. I know that when I was with my ex, I was ALWAYS laughing. He’s a funny guy. I just feel like laughing should never stop.
I need Conan and Andy together again. I think it would be amazing if they did a show together online and they could actually swear and not have a network telling them what do. Andy has a filthy sense of humor and I love it. His humor perfectly compliments Conans
I love this episode and I especially love Liza , she is beautiful and so knowledgeable. The conversation is so easy and I know her and Conan have great conversations outside of the normal conversation couples. I would love that in my husband that we have a deeper conversations rather than ig post, I just imagine they sit at dinner and discuss world topics, books, etc love it
I've been a huge fan of Conan for years and years ...this is my first time like many others I'm sure seeing his beautiful wife and she's exactly like her I expected her to be ( beautiful) ☘️🇮🇪💚💚💚💚☘️☘️
I'm glad to finally meet his wife. He mentioned his family alot on his show and did a tore around his house, saw no pictures but guitars I keep assuming she wasn't real.😄
