this is so important because imagine your boss doing this, you’ll be absolutely afraid of speaking out in fear of losing your job. a lot of people stay in these situations because the perpetrator is their superior/holds power over them.
That dance coach at the end sounded unhinged. What kind of update/response was that. If that's what she was like on set/tour, all sickly sweet and "god is good, god loves you, accept god, god this, god that" then idk how everyone didn't go insane. It's one thing to cherish your religion in your personal life but she sounds absolutely insufferable.
That's why that stuff should just stay at home. Unless proselytizing is also part of her job, and it isn't, she shouldn't be imposing her beliefs like that. If that's always how she is, why not work for a religious organization instead? Not to mention, it's kind of predatory. I am not plus size but a lot of women in my family are. And they are the most fatphobic people I know! In their case, I think they were projecting their own insecurities/hate of themselves onto other women that looked like them (or even slightly not the "perfect size", they are not tolerent at all)? They had no valid reason to hate themselves or others, imo, but they did NOT think that. I'm not an expert but it really felt like that. I've been trying to deconstruct those beliefs for years now… it's crazy how much it can be internalized
They body shame everyone! I've been given shit for being skinny my entire life and 93% of the time it's from fat people. I've not experienced how society treats fat people but I sympathize with anyone who gets body shamed. However, I've known some people who believe that they get the worst of the body shaming and that I should take being called skinny as a compliment.

Not to mention there are conditions that make it impossible and or almost impossible to be a healthy weight all the time or at all. So, there should absolutely be a "community" for people that ALREADY exist, to exist. Also very rarely do I see creators that are Plus sized try and coerce individuals to look like them?. I see more media of unhealthily underweight individuals being portrayed as the peak physique. Also important to mention not everyone who is considered medically overweight is actually unhealthy. The burden of proof isn’t on the accused to prove they’re innocent. Because it’s fairly impossible to prove something that didn’t happen. If I just accused you of saying something offensive, how would you prove you didn’t? Unless you record every second of your life, you wouldn’t have the proof you didn’t say it. The burden of proof is on the people accusing someone of something. They have to prove what they said actually happened.
The fat shaming part of the lawsuit very much reads like assumption on the dancers' part. However, once the dance captain released her video I 100% believe everything stated about her in the lawsuit AND can absolutely see how the meeting about the dancer's weight went down to make her uncomfortable/stressed.

Also, abusers often make their victim feel at fault, and "fawning" (placating and appeasing behavior directed toward the perpetrator) is a symptom of complex trauma, like prolonged abuse. That video doesn't help Lizzo's case AT ALL.

It's interesting - This morning on the radio, the AM DJ's were talking about how one of them had met Lizzo right before she popped off and became super famous and he said she was amazing, and one of the others met her after she hit it big and said she left the interview crying because it went so badly, after being a huge Lizzo fan herself. I'm kind of confused at comparing markle and other women of color's backlash to lizzo's. In every case there listed there were always people who saw through the racism at the core of the accusations and showed support. The heart of this scandal is not about people being racist against lizzo. People seem horrified at the actual accusations here and most seem shocked that lizzo herself would do those things because of her general message. But I am also not on Twitter or Instagram so haven't seen the hate comments, just the news articles and commentary RU-vid.

I remember being an intern and having my 50yo woman boss pressure of interns to party and drink with her so she can “feel young” or excuse her alcoholism. And any time some of us wanted to go home because WE STILL HAD TO WORK THE NEXT DAY, she would boo us and pressure us to stay. Now I wasnt getting paid much at this moment and I didnt depend on this money to survive as much as I needed experience, but I cant imagine how much more awful it is to have you life depend on a toxic job like this…
Personally I have stopped myself from forming any opinions until more information actually comes out, and I’m still standing by that. I honestly think that we as a society are way too fast to attack people based on tactless claims put out by social media. I’m not saying that the dancers are lying, but the fact of the matter is, there has been no proof shown for what they are claiming. We can support them without reacting towards Lizzo. And this goes for anything really, how many times has it happened that one person says something about another, we “cancel” that person and when the whole story comes out it paints a bit of a different picture than what we were given. I also think that we need to stop idolising these celebrities, just because they might look like us. Sure you can be inspired by them or like what they do, but to put them on a pedestal is just asking for yourself to be disappointed imo.
i do believe that lizzo is probably getting harsher treatment due to being a black woman + being a fat black woman but like plenty of people have said being a woman or any other minority doesn’t excuse any of the alleged behavior. i’m waiting to see how it ends before committing to an opinion (but imo if they didn’t have some form of evidence they wouldn’t be sueing).
I really feel the need to add that the dancer claims that Lizzo asked after her health, which the dancer took as a dig against her weight gain. The dancer never claimed that Lizzo made a direct comment regarding her weight. I honestly don't think Lizzo is fatphobic, but there is some merit to the sexual innapropiate work environment.
I can understand that bit. But the dancer also claimed she felt pressured to reveal private information about a medical problem she was going through at the time, which is absolutely not ok or legal. It's really common to be discriminated against for your health (anything from becoming pregnant to having chronic health conditions). Despite laws against it, it's easy to just say someone's efforts are no longer meeting the standard of the company, etc etc etc. Trust me, I've been there. It's also no one's business. Neither your employer nor employees should be asking you about private information like that unless it's offered. If it's impacting your ability to work or the safety of your peers, that'sone thing (and it may have been the case that it was impacting the quality of her dance or her behavior at work). But you should never be obligated to tell your boss what the specifics of your struggle are. Especially if it's based on the way you look, not any actual impairment or change in work quality. It's possible it was asked out of concern. It's just in an industry that competitive, that usually isn't information that helps you keep your spot in the lineup.

Jameela fucked up with her initial comment, but regardless of how anyone feels about her (an opinionated women, for some it’s the worst sin a woman can commit), her subsequent comments and responses are absolutely correct. Society does react a lot more violently to women committing crimes/horrible acts than they do when said crimes are committed by men. The point is not that women should be given a pass, the point is that people should reflect on why their responses to the same crimes vary depending on the sex of the perpetrator, and should learn to hold both sexes equally accountable. But I guess it’s easier for people to fixate on Jameela’s first response and on not liking her than it is to be self aware.

It may sound harsh but thats the art industry, its about the aesthetics - like if she got fired while working for a bank or smth just for gaining weight than she’s completely entitled to form a lawsuit. One of the allegations is that the dance leader was religiously preaching at the dancers creating an hostile work environment.
