I hope people learn the following from this video: if you're stuck in traffic, PLEASE don't hug the shoulders so any emergency vehicles can respond quickly. It may be YOUR loved one they are trying to save.
This advice however doesn’t apply to Germany, they go between the lanes. It does seem to create more space but, they ensure drivers are taught what to do in those situations. So they automatically pull over to the side of the road when there’s a traffic jam just in case they need to allow emergency vehicles through.
@@a20axf these things are only an issue in countries where formal driving lessons are totally absent and people need to educate drivers through RU-vid… these simple things (like using your blinkers and not overtaking on the right) are not an issue in Western Europe.
@@jaredzarge6461 you're blaming the wrong people. You say the problem is overtaking on the right but really it is those who don't move over so you can overtake on the left. Your imprecise statement adds to their false belief that they are right.
"Pinned Qs" may not even be recognized as a siren. The rising up and down sounds like a siren. Drivers have thought peaked Q was brake squeal. Powercall got it wrong. Should dwell on the LOW tone, not the high. Low tones travel farther and penetrate vehicles better.
Good driving, I've been on similar types of runs myself. At least you didn't have an idiot pull out in front of you at the last second. Luckily when it happened to me a deputy was behind me. The driver of the car got an ear full and a ticket. We had some great officers at times if they got on scene before us and an exit ramp was close by they would alert dispatch and tell us to go down the off ramp. Always try to keep good relationships with the LEOs they'll help you out when they can.
As a driver and officer, don't forget that electronic warning is also a megaphone. Sometimes it works better to get off the sirens and horns and announce to the drivers to just move left or right. They will obey you.
Had a similar thing running a Striker 1500 up the interstate code 3. We were doing 5 over and getting passed. One nice thing is that the train horns under the cab face out the side so my foot may have accidentally stepped on the button when a car window was in line. Accidentally of course 😂
Watching all the cars passing on the right just made me shake my head.... I understand that the firetruck is probably going slower than those passing but still. And seeing that almost no vehicles moved over like they're required to do is just sad. I guess they don't care about someone else's life that might be in danger.
It's always astonishing to me that people are dumb enough to fail to yield to an emergency vehicle... I can't believe how dumb some people are. But the guy that said park this bish sideways at the end was hilarious
It's not illegal to pass them when responding. It's illegal to not yield and to pass them while they're on scene without giving them at least a lance of clearance.
@@Firebuff101 Well I live in wisconsin & it's illegal to pass emergency vehicles. Also it's not smart because if you pass & the emergency vehicle needs to change lanes you've blocked their route.
@@Firebuff101 It falls under this part of the law. 346.90 Following emergency vehicle. The operator of any vehicle other than one on official business shall not follow an authorized emergency vehicle responding to a call or alarm closer than 500 feet or drive into or park his or her vehicle within the block where, or within 300 feet of the driveway entrance or similar point of access to a driveway or road on which, fire apparatus has stopped in response to an alarm. The personal vehicles of members of a volunteer fire department answering the alarm are considered on official business.
It is illegal in most states. There are signs on the highways and interstates that will say, "State Law: Move over and slow down for emergency vehicles."
In my State all emergency response vehicles have the right away. When their sirens r on. U yield the whole road to them. By pulling out of the way. Its big fines here and a arestable offense if u don't follow those laws. I hope your State legislatures pass the same laws in your State too. A second late can mean a loss of life. U guys shouldn't have to stress on the emergency calls you're responding to. Nice driving from the responding emergency driver.
I know your comments a year old but that's the law/same in all states. It's just half the driver's don't know how to drive and the rest are to nervous to squeeze over to make room especially on highways an interstates
According to NFPA, if the water and/or foam tank capacity is over 1,250 gallons or the gross vehicle weight rating is over 50,000 pounds, the maximum speed is 60 mph or the fire service speed rating for the tires, whichever is lower.
@@BradleyPetrohoy Makes good sense from a safety standpoint. I wonder what the value is of running Code in the fast lane at less than the speed limit. Knowing traffic is backing up behind the emergency vehicle, and knowing people are jockeying for position switching lanes and trying to pass each other, I wonder if the firetruck is more of a traffic hazard in this situation. If so, maybe Code 1 in the middle or right lane is appropriate until running up on traffic. I am not criticizing. Just thinking.
@@johnhallford2099 exactly; With our slower units I stay out of the fast lane as long as there's no speed limit and give traffic the chance to pass me as long as I can proceed in my lane without slowing down
Some of those passes had to be mere inches. Especially once that annoying cable guardrail started . I don't know why some states feel it needs tobe right on the edge of the pavement.
In my state, I believe it is a misdemeanor to pass and emergency vehicle while sounding siren and displaying warning light. But then most asshole drivers ignore most laws anyway!
First of all EAERY driver that past, didn’t move over or hindered an emergency vehicle will need to retake a driver license course to get their license back. LOL Law enforcement can easily get the license plates of every vehicle from the dash cam.
I loved this video really professional and omg the stupid motorists ,im drive a semi and car drivers are getting thicker by the dy ..brilliant really enjoyed this ..Thank you .
Got all that grass in the middle, why not make the emergency lane wide enough to fit the damn emergency vehicle???? God damn over paid brainless engineers.
pretty bad when traffic is passing on the right! not supposed to do that! surprised they didn't cause a secondary crash doing that and at least no idiots decided to jump in front of you on the shoulder to attempt to get ahead in traffic and end up blocking the lane like they tend to do
What happened to pulling the fuck over for emergency vehicles ? Even on the highway u have to pull over to the side or is that depending on. The state ?
Rettungsgasse mal wieder ein Fremdwort. Dass man nicht über den Seitenstreifen fährt, sollte einem eigentlich in der Fahrschule beigebracht werden und nichts Neues sein.
My younger brother is a firefighter/EMT for the town of Norton Massachusetts and he tells me about these same type of idiots who think, what's the hurry? There's no where to turn! You just have to wait! It does piss off my brother and I'm sure it does for all of the firefighters 🚒 🚑🚒🚑🚒🚑 Sometimes the truck comes so close to hitting the those idiots! Like some one said..... Move out of my way, I might be going to your house or to a loved one that got hurt really bad or to a serious car accident! JUST MOVE OUT OF THE WAY! THOSE BIG TRUCKS ARE GOING TO SAVE SOMEONE 😳 👀 😬 😕 😫! Best to all the firefighters in the 🇺🇸 USA 🇺🇸!
Ok, so in The Netherlands most of the times a fire truck goes about as fast as I am allowed to drive or just a little faster on the highway than I am allowed to (not sure what the maximum speed is on that stretch there) but even if they wouldn't be, I would stay behind it, I don't get why you want to might end up with the vehicle behind you causing you all kinds of stress while trying to move out of the way for it...I'd rather end up in a traffic jam with just traffic in front of me having to pay attention to everyone approaching behind me instead of seeing blinking lights, it's...much less stressfull.
If you ever want to lose faith in humanity? Watch a highway response video. Too many holes in the right lanes for that many people to be blocking the emergency vehicle response lane. Its astonishing that you're on your way to a MVA and passing so many breathing dumpster fires along the way. When time is of the essence there will always be a few thousand idiots in your way. I firmly believe all apparatus should be equipped with license plate readers to issue tickets to all those dumb mfrs who have obvious openings in other lanes. Proceeds should only benefit the responding departments. Should be common knowledge to gtfo of the left lane if a highway is backed up. I know it's a requirement and a question on most state drivers tests.
One thing to notice is very few cars in America give way (or more room) to emergency vehicles. This is the complete opposite to Europe. Shows that American driving school doesn't put any emphasize on it
people where i live have a major issue with parking on the inside shoulder when traffic stops, and the muddy median will suck in anything that falls off the pavements edge, we've had to scream at people to move off so we can get by (i should add, im not emergency services, but we are part of the response when it affects the highway)
Too bad you need to have the siren on due to state law ... same law also for nighttime response, empty backroads in the middle of nowhere? In that aspect I'm kind of happy that we can switch off the siren on our own responsibility; Quite often light traffic allows us to make only minimum use of the siren, if at all. And as long as we're slower than the posted speed limit and flow of traffic I will usually move over to the middle lane (as long as I can proceed there without slowing down due to vehicles ahead) to let faster traffic pass me
It's frustrating to see the number of drivers who have NO respect for emergency apparatus while responding. Maybe I'm the one that needs further educated, but I was taught that you never pass responding emergency vehicles, regardless of where you are.
well it might be on a couple of hundred miles long emergency response, never know; As long as I don't keep up with average speed I'd rather drive in the middle lane to let traffic pass instead of slowing down all traffic behind me
