I was born in Lawrence, KS in 1955. Needless to say, it's changed incredibly much since then! However, sometimes the more things change the more they stay the same. I'm one of the "lucky" ones who can still "go home". The El Matador Cafe in North Lawrence continues to be my home and always will be.....Thanks to Betty and Booty.......and my Dad's Barber Shop. Not to many are as fortunate to be able to go to their childhood home and have things remain so much the same. Thanks to the Reyes family for my sweet memories!
Amazing to see the changes in Lawrence since the 80's! The open field with the farmhouse next to Centennial School (which I attended), at 9:45 for instance, has been replaced with a ball diamond! And lots more spawl!
At 1:22 you can see that the River Front Mall wasn't built yet. So that puts it before 1989. At 9:41 you can see Checkers Foods, which was built in 1987. So that puts this video around 1988. Would you agree?
I was researching a project and Channel 6 in Lawrence allowed me to go through their old 3/4" video archives. There wasn't any info on this clip, it was at the end of a tape, when I preview old tapes I usually check the ends of the tape for additional material that may have been recorded over. This was probably recorded for the Channel 6 news.
