Hello everyone, MT here with the usual trainspotting action. Either you enjoy them or criticise them, the new Hitachi built Class 800/801’s ‘Azuma’ are shaping up the future of public rail transport for passengers on the East Coast Mainline and more had come into service over the last few months. Therefore, I thought putting together a compilation of them together token from various locations across the ECML including Leeds, Doncaster and Grantham. A mixture of them stopping at stations and speeding whether they are in passenger service and/or doing test runs. Make sure you all check the compilations I’ve done of the IC125 and IC225 which both are equally rememberable. Hope you all enjoy this!

Far too many people hating on the Azuma here. I bet they all did the same when the Deltics were replaced by the HST and class 91 locos. I have been on them multiple times (mainly with TPE) They are very comfortable. The ride is great. The acceleration is stunning. They are rather quiet, even when running on diesel. The leg room is fantastic. They have a huge number of seats per carriage (92 per carriage!!) There is sufficient luggage space. The only thing that isn't great are the seats. They are not allowed to have a lot of padding. Other than that, these trains are great and a good successor to the amazing HST And the intercity 225.

There is an element of lamenting the HST with some people but not all. Some of the criticism is valid. The travel experienceI depends on which specific unit you have. And also which car you sit in. My first trip was in a motor coach of an early (Japanese build) LNER 800 car and I was shocked by now noisy it was. Really very poor. Return trip was in one of the driving cars which was fairly quiet and smooth. Third trip was in a 801 trailer car (UK build I believe) which had AC that sounded like a gale in the cabin and rattling/buzzing panels - build quality seemed very poor. I've heard similar reports of variability of the GWR sets. Some appear to be reasonably refined and well made while others are very poor. I would agree with this assessment. Not had a chance to try a TPE 802 set yet. Perhaps the build quality has been improved by now. The seat have been criticised to death and rightly so - totally unsuitable for a long distance train and its not just a lack of padding. The shape and angle are very uncomfortable over long periods. For this reason alone they have not gone down well with a lot of people. I would have to conclude that in terms of comfort they are a step backwards. Though I think if they had proper seats and the quality control was sorted out they would make acceptable long distance trainst. They are not all bad like some people are making out but there are definitely some quality and design issues that ought to be addressed.

All these people in the comments who are saying that too many people hate new trains are correct. Too many are biased. I love both the 800 series and the HST. Many people who want to keep older train for longer doesn’t know that trains don’t last forever. Nice video though!

I agree, but also, I don’t. That was putting it lightly. To put it how I said it irl, Absolute nonsense! The IET’s are so uncomfortable it’s like sitting on a pile of metal scrap, the traction motor sound is awful, they look dreadful. The HST is superior in every way shape or form!! THE END

Well, our dog likes the Azumas. The designers thoughtfully provided a 'den' that runs the full length of the carriage under the seats, so he can stop and say hello to anyone on his side when he is onboard. He had great fun on the trip down to Penzance, pressing his wet nose against legs.

I've had the pleasure of being on one of TPE's 802s. The ride is at least as comfortable as with the 185s, there's plenty of leg room, and they obviously have the option of using electric power. The only problem is that they're still not bloody long enough. Seven carriages would be better, especially between Manchester and Leeds.

I think it depends on the operating company actually because I'm fairly sure that all GWR ones are classed as 801's. And Hull Trains have 802's as far as I know. But there could be a difference between all of them...

@dominicfindlay 4 года назад
@@oliverthegreatwesternengin8029 The 800 is bi-model with 560 kW (750 hp) engine. However GWR 800 have been uprated to 700 kW (940 hp) 801 is only electric, however GWR were going to have some 801s but delays to electrification meant they were fitted with engines and renamed 800/3 Class 802 is bi-model with 700 kW (940 hp) per engine, also has larger fuel tank than 800 They all have 5 and 9 car variants. So to work out which is which 800 - GWR or LNER GWR 800/0 5 car LNER 800/1 9 car LNER 800/2 5 car GWR 800/3 9 car 801 - LNER 801/1 5 car 801/2 9 car 802 - GWR or TPE or Hull Trains GWR 802/0 5 car GWR 802/1 9 car TPE 802/2 5 car Hull Trains 802/3 5car If there are no overhead wires it's a 800 or 802, however the 801 has a small engine for emergency movements If its TPE or Hull Trains then 802 They all can use overhead power so can't use that to differentiate Can't tell between GWR 800 and 802 they both have 5 and 9 cars. However GWR will send 802s on certain routes. Same for LNER 800 and 801 if under the wires but the 800s will go to un-electrified locations.

In a regular lifespan they shouldn't have to run 50 years anyway. Rolling stock that's used for 50 years is clearly only still in service due to lack of funding for new trains. Also: None of you know if the Azumas could last 50 years. All you are is stuck up in the thought bubble that everything old is good abd reliable, and everything new is bad and low quality. The fact is after the early troubles are sorted out most modern trains run just as reliably as the old ones did when they were new.

Can count on one hand the number of amendments I’ve had in the old days with HST.’s and 225’s. Also due to this I’ve ended up claiming on the seat repay scheme multiple times due to not having my reservation when changes were made
