Tim, I'm really disappointed to see you handicapped the Kubota with those green weights. You should know it only prefers to lift orange ones. The entire test was invalid :-) Few notes. You did not point out the ssqa and its significant lift penalty. With the pin-on or pin grabber qa coming in higher. The QA offset is also a big hit on rollback. We sell 90% with SSQA, so it's fair to include it in the test, but it deserved mention as there is a tradeoff. I personally would say I think you understate the difference in lift\curl between the two. It's a widely held belief kubota excels there. As an experienced operator you've perfected it on a harder to run tractor, but your average operator will run the kubota with more fineness with less seat time. I think you largely reflected what the spec sheets show, the Deere does life more. Nice work.
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 5 лет назад
Hey Neil! Ssqa...you and I have already had that debate, right? Both machines have a quick attach bucket. Seems apples to apples to me. Too bad the bx chooses the overweight ssqa version rather than a lighter QA mechanism. ...for others, Neil and I agree on larger tractors, ssqa is the way to go! We only differ on subcompact and small compact. The two functions test...perhaps you are right. However, the 2018 and later 1025r has a much better feel. It isn’t that hard. ...but I agree it is a ‘widely held belief...’ I would still like to know the factory spec for hydraulic pressure on the bx. ...just to make sure this one is in spec. I think it is, as the loader lift capacity seems to be close to spec. Thanks very much for your comment!

@@TractorTimewithTim The internet tells me 1790-1850 PSI. My BX2350 manual tells me the implement relief valve should be set to 1778 to 1849 PSI. Presumably in later models they rounded what they converted from 125 to 130 kgf/cm2.
@MessicksEquip
@MessicksEquip 5 лет назад
@@TractorTimewithTim We did. Just thought the QA conversation should have been part of this video since its very relevant to the testing you did. Most people are not aware, but Kubota offers pin-on, a pin-type QA not disimular from the JD one, and the SSQA. I see Deere just started offering an SSQA... so they came around on that just in time for your video :-). Another thing you may want to show, all your testing was theoretical loads and not typical material handling chores that most people would do. For example, maybe 1 in 20 people own pallet forks. It's worth adding that every configuration of all these tractors will move pretty well whatever material you scoop up into their buckets.
@barelystablefarm7151
@barelystablefarm7151 5 лет назад
Messick's It doesn’t really matter, lift is lift and that John Deere walked all over that Kubota. It probably would still out lift it even without the SSQA. With these tractors every 50 pounds matter. It matters when you’re coming into a pill of heavy material or using pallet forks.
@kennethfeld6639
@kennethfeld6639 5 лет назад
@@barelystablefarm7151 I don't think the SSQA has as much of a weight penalty as a geometry penalty. The farther away from the pin you put a weight the harder it is for the tractor to lift it. The weights on the end of the pallet from the load a trailer test for instance. If the SSQA puts 3" more between the weights and the pin that alone would cause quite a bit of difference in the amount able to be lifted. The Deere QA is pretty "Compact" in the regard and doesn't offset the attachments nearly as far as a SSQA.

These videos are absolutely invaluable to folks like myself currently trying to make this exact purchasing decision. Thank you so much for taking the time to make them! Having grown up on a farm in Wisconsin which had only red tractors I've noticed myself inherently and wrongly biased against Team Green. Looking at these demonstrations, I find myself softening on my long-held avoidance of them. It's still going to take a test drive on both machines to make the final call, as I already own a Kubota M7040SU with a bucket loader and pallet forks for heavy work. For my situation it's mostly going to be a monster lawn mower "with benefits".

This series is pure gold, just lovin it. For the record I have zero tractor experience, but after visiting the Kubota dealer a couple of times I really taught that the BX would do better. The dealer really pushed the ability of the BX loader to do 2 functions at the same time and not the Deere. I am new to your channel, but love your honesty....thumbs way up. Tim great job, one thing I have done in the past with Skid steers while lifting pallets full of landscape blocks that were too heavy to lift, was to rock the hydrostatic levers and bounce the machine forward and backward and you can usually lift just a little bit higher with the bouncing of the machine to get it off the ground high enough to just move the pallet.

Another very good comparison. It wasn't a surprise to me to see that the JD could lift more but it was a surprise to see exactly how much less the BX could lift in the forklift comparison. Even though that is disappointing to me as a BX owner, I am happy that I now have a real world example of how much mine can lift. Thank you!

Great video, You just hit on reality. I bought a 2019 JD1025r ( My first tractor) back in April. I needed help with lifting IBC Tote crates of firewood on and off of my trailer. I towed my trailer to each dealer with a 3/4 filled IBC Tote of dried Ash firewood ( about 500#) to each dealer JD and Kubota and asked if the 1025r or Bx 2680 could take the tote off and on. The JD1025r did it with no problem while the Kubota could not. The Kubota dealer wanted to sell me the L3901 or the L4701. He said I would wear out a compact tractors doing this kind of task. I explained it would just be about 16-20 of these totes a year (seasonal ) and the rest of the time I would be using the tractor to till a small garden and help with landscaping and cleaning up dead trees on our 1-1/2 acre property and helping out parents and friends. I had no use or the finance committee (LoL) approval for anything bigger. We choose the JD1025r and have been happy with it. GOD BLESS

The B2601 is only a little bit more expensive, and only a little bit larger (probably still about the same size as the 1025R, depending on discounts may be the same price). It lifts a lot more than the BX - they made compromises to make it so small.

Thank you for taking the time to make these comparison videos. I recently purchased a Kubota. When comparing between the Kubota and Deere two items stood out for the type of work I am currently using it for. (1) Using a grapple, with the Kubota the addition of the third function capability is really convenient and a factory option. The buttons are located on the knob of the joystick. When I inquired about this with the Deere it seemed to be more of an afterthought and more inconvenient. Deere did say it was available in the 3000 series. (2) The ability to quickly change attachments on the Kubota. This has been wonderful. I realize the ability to do this requires an attachment on the loader arms which decreases lift capacity but for my uses the tradeoff is worth it. Currently I am moving a lot of 5'-8' logs and obviously the length depends on the trunk diameter but have not had an issue with the Kubota grapple and lift capacity. About a year ago my property got hit by a couple tornadoes resulting in over 150 downed trees and the ability to quickly attach/detach attachments as well as a convenient third function switch has made the job much easier. As you mentioned, they are both good tractors and it just comes down to what your needs are.
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 5 лет назад
Deere has a quick attach bucket which is standard without the weight penalty of SSQA. Both now have factory 3rd function options. Deere only introduced theirs in 2019...Kubota had it a couple of years earlier as you indicate.

I think those were pretty clear results. The Kubota had a smaller, but not necessarily lighter bucket and heavier SSQA attachment system. I have never measured, but perhaps you already covered how far out the loaders and buckets extend. Could also factor into lift capacity. Do you feel the BX would lift it's rated figures? Excellent video. I'll always be wondering which identical twin I'm talking to from now on 😜
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 5 лет назад
Yes, I believe the BX would lift its rated capacity. Perhaps even more. The differences are larger closer to the ground, confirming your theory about the loader being extended further on the BX. I should graph each one with many different weights. That would be fun.

I have a BX23s, i have had a B2650 and Deere 2038R in the past. I like both Brands. Today I was able to move my Trailer, Dry weight of 6,900 pounds, packed but with no liquids for camping with my BX23s. The Tongue weight of the trailer is 685 pounds. I used a titan hitch from amazon that slides onto the face of your pallet forks (you remove the forks). The BX lifted, pulled, turned and controlled the trailer without any issues or worries. I put it between 2 trees and need to get around a rock wall. Summary: The BX23s can handle 685 tongue weight on a 6,900 dry weight trailer over grass. Great review Tim! Also, I felt the ground shake when 2 Tims appeared on screen:). Another point to consider from my experience... I have the AP12F / 48" tines for the 2025R. It's too much for the 120R in my opinion. But I have found that tine position makes a difference for lifting the limits. For instance, I had a 1000# pallet of treated lumber wet (so it may have been heavier) that the 120R could not budge with the tines close to center. I spread the tines out to be closely in-line to the lifting cylinders and it lifted the load without issue and I was able to move the pallet 50 yards over soft ground. No issue. The curl trick is important to know too. But it just further illustrates that technique is often as important as capacity with the smaller machines (until the delta is too great to overcome:))

I bought an EA 185 Lb. Hardox 42" tine pallet fork and, while pricy, it has almost paid for itself in the savings of not needing a lift gate for palleted goods I have had shipped to my home. When you can get shippers to agree to a residential address shipment, that is. If not, for lifting them off the trailer when I get home. Weighs less so I can lift more. Probably my most used attachment, as I use it to shuffle my other attachments out of shelter and also as a firewood shagger to carry logs or split wood on pallet "cribs" with side rails. Another great use is to stab and turn/aerate the compost heap!

Not only 2 functions at the same time but on 2 tractors at the same time! Nice editing job. Hey Katriel, nice to see you again! How come you didn't help dear old Dad move those weights around? I agree, 300 pounds isn't much to lift. My 5' flail mower weighs 700 pounds. Don't know how much more with the steel angle iron "crate" it came in.

I did months of reviews before choosing my BX. Lift capacity was a huge factor but according to all the other videos online I wasn’t going to lose much. I wish this series was out a few months ago when I made my purchase as I most likely would have gone green. I also find very annoying the fact that the BX loader barely moves at idle while the Deere has about 70-80% of its capacity at idle. Thanks for the amazing series.

1 advantage of the BX no counter balance needed it won't lift it. LOL

I have a 790 and 3032E tractors from John Deere and they can lift quite a bit, but I have not measured how much they lifted and they both are speedy also and I out drove my brother while on the 3032E and my brother on his Mahindra tractor as we drove about 4 miles one way to do work at our church and I beat him driving there and back home.

Amazing real world comparison. Besides a 1025R I own a Kubota 3540 and often surprised how much it won't pick up. I can't fully load my Bobcat bucket when using it on my Kubota.

Multiple functions on the FEL: I fly R/C airplanes and controllers have two joysticks that give four controls in three dimensions plus throttle. Smooth flight rerquires multiple imputs for throttle (speed), rudder (yaw). elevator (elevation) and ailerons (roll) simultaneously; which marks an experienced pilot. Takes some practice. Transitioning to my JD 1025R it didn't take me long to apply the same smoothness in two-axises to the bucket that I had to a model aircraft to get smooth movements. It's like music or golf. Timing and rhythm. Zen tractoring.

Since you have the crane scale you could use it find somewhere to over hang a load you know you cannot move, and see what curl weight is applied and lift. Could even use different buckets/grapple/forks to see what it affects.

Big thanks to Tim, his wife, Johnny and Martha. About 6 months ago started researching small tractors....to help with my dead and dying ash trees as a result of the Emerald Ash Borer. Im tired, getting old, have taken down about 30 large ash trees with simple old fashioned tools and procedures. Hoping a tractor will give me a helping hand...help save my back.. with another 40 trees that need to be taken down.... I reside in Southern Ontario, Canada. I must say that this loader comparison video was the very very most important video in my months of researching...along with watching My Cluttered Garage, GP Outdoors, Messicks to name a few of my favourites. My eyes were opened in regards to lift capacity of the two models... To back track a little, a few years back a friend needed somewhere to park his 20?? series compact Deere. He parked it at my house, and allowed me use of it. I was surprised with the capabilities of the front end loader or should I say incapabilities when I went to pick up a large rock. Now, in fairness, I was a total newbie and really didnt know what I was doing, so Im not knocking the tractor. Anyways, this stuck in my head, and came to light during Tims comparison video. I went tractor shopping....1025R and BX23S. In my area, Johnnies were quoted at $6000 more than the comparable Orange Kubbies!!!. I wasnt real impressed with the Green Salesman and the dealership was 30 minutes away. I was impressed with the Orange salesman, the dealership is 10 minutes away and I have done business with them before. So, I took the $6000 extra and moved up to a B2601 TLB orange Kubbie. Presently anxiously awaiting delivery with hopes these troubled times dont hold it up too much. R14 tires, 3rd function etc are all back ordered, but dealer is expecting basic tractor delivery sometime this month..hopefully. Thanks again for your efforts and time in posting your vids. OH, by the way, your channel is the very first channel I have ever subscribed to.

Always good to see Katriel. Seems she is near the perfect height ( As tall as her mother, also her legs go all the way to the ground, Perfect ). I went from Pittsburgh to the Penn State Ag Progress Days - got to dream and see some tractors and post frame buildings. Now I know how big a 1025R is and a B series Kubota. Thank always and take care.

One thing to think about is if it's to heavy of a load taking it off a trailer it could tip the tractor forward on you as well with or without weight on the 3 point hitch. and if the ground is uneven may turn it over side ways.

This is a perfectly executed side by side test of the John Deere Tractor and the Kubota TOY ! This is an absolute embarrassment to Kubota. The sad thing is, I have the Kubota with the exact LA 344 Loader. I am so glad you pointed this out!

Great Video as usual, like seeing the side by side, only disagreement I have is how the loader valves work, unless they've changed this was the first thing I noticed coming from operating skid steers, the BX doesn't need a sweet spot. Wish you had a BX23S as the backhoe is what really sold it for me, the ROPS on the BX23S has a lot more room than the JD, but I like how you can add on a backhoe to the JD at anytime vs the specific model for the BX. Keep up the good work and outcome was somewhat what I expected, I honestly didn't think the gap would be that large, but if the BX has some hours on it the pressure might be down as mine needed to be shimmed at 130 hours.
