The last B52’s that were built was in 1962 making them 62 years old! With all the military spending since 1962 & newer technology, I’d think the most powerful country would have developed a newer, more effective & efficient machine.
Actually a handful (14) of the final B-52H models were built in 1963 so those are only 61 years old. Of the total 102 B-52H models built 72 are still in service. It's difficult to state accurately the number of mechanical overhauls and revisions and the number of avionics and weapons systems updates each of these planes have undergone in the six decades they have been flying, but most counts are well into three figures.
