I love it when i get content from you. People dont realize how much work it is keeping this world supplied. The food at the birthday party looked amazing. Happy birthday to your crew mate. Safe travels
Love the great videos chief. I worked in the oilfield for 20 plus years running boats back and forth to production platforms and drilling rigs with an occasional drill ship in the mix. I am retired now but when the ocean gets into your bloodstream you never forget the constant call wanting you to come back. Thank you very much for allowing me to be part of your journey in the merchant marine. Have a safe journey and looking forward to your suture adventures.
Hello Chief, I'm an argentinian ex maritime agent and I always wanted to see the straight passing. Please please film it for us. I have been able to see short videos or pictures taken by crews on the way to the Parana river ports but I always wanted a good full view.
while many of your viewers may have suggestions for your next work here, I am completely satisfied every time I watch your shows on RU-vid. its always new to me. I grew up watching ships come into the Duluth Superior harbor. I always felt for the sailors onboard, being far from home and families, even when its by choice, I know how difficult this can be in my own life. thank you!!
I see why you are going thru the straits, I didn't realize you were so far south already it just makes sense then going north and back thru the canal. Thanks for sharing!
another enjoyable video chief i always love seeing new content on your channel , i miss seeing Mrs Makoi and her cooking videos and everyday life at home hope she makes more videos some day , Have a smooth voyage !
Good morning Cheif 🌄! Humm... 24 hours to load, 24 hours to clean deck spillage. Putting a sock on that shoot might eliminate alot of this mess. Stay safe and have fun 👍.
Chief, this Amazing to say the least. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes that we don't see. It's not as easy as you put off. But I know as well as others, that you are very busy. Thank You for the videos we get to see and make us a part of your Journey, I Truly Appreciate it. I watch for videos that you post all of the time. Looking forward to more. :) I hope someday that I will meet you and buy you a Snowcone :) (BEER) LOL Take care and Good Luck on your Masters. Tell the Crew I said Hi!
Good morning Chief. Thanks for another great video and Happy (belated) Birthday to that young man. Hopefully, his next one can be spent with his family. Does your ship have a Quartermaster?
Good day, Chief, it's interesting to see you work in a bulkcarrier instead of a container ship as the cargo operations & types of carrying cargo should be different. Pls consider to show more details on cargo operations, like trimming, ballasting & deballasting, cargo inspection & calculating loadable quantity, loading & unloading sequence. Thanks.
My grandfather was a dock worker in Sydney. In WW2 he was loading grain into a frigate for a blockade run though the straits of tears, Bab-el-Mandeb, the cargo net broke and he got badly hurt. Permanently lame. He was the only civilian with a Australian navy pension. There was sabotage on the docks, Stalinist working for Adolf! No one was caught. You guys have it easy today.
It's always interesting to see the procedures for dealing with different cargos. How did you eventually dispose of the water used to wash the potassium from the hold?
What happens when it rains during the loading operations? Do you wait till the rains stop or is there sort of covering? Also if its a rainy season whats the precautions you guys take. Thanks for all your videos. Great fan. Take care.
My wife and I send balikbayan box's often to a remote Island in the Philippines. My wife grew up there so she is not spoiled like many city girls. We are old and retired and grew old together. If I was not a sailor I would have never met my wife. You sound like Americano 🙂.
Around the long way, great video Chief. Is that normal or maybe I can only guess the restrictions on water level in the Panama Canal are biting pretty hard?
That's a lotta rice... I did a distance learning Masters program in Environmental Management... It does have its own unique challenges doing it that way. You should be able to apply a lot of real world knowledge to your thesis..... I did with mine...
With low water levels in Lake Gatun decreasing the number of ships transiting Panama Canal I would not be surprised if more ships option for Magellan until Gatun water levels stabilize.
FYI chief, a good size earthquake hit Surigao Del Sur earlier. I’m pretty sure you don’t live close, but just giving you a heads up. My in laws in Surigao del Norte got a good shake out of it.
Greetings Chief from Columbia River USA....Is the sludge Black water, Gray water.....engine room bilge slops?..Please give updates on your Master Classes..the curriculum and what your thesis will be.....I'm almost ready to do the same after you gave me the name of the University which had this type of study plan. I saw your advertisement in this video and it helped with my questions.
It's waste oil residue, mostly from the oil purifiers. Black and grey water is termed as sewage, while Bilge water is any water that accumulates in the Engine Room bilges. I'll give further updates on my Master's in the coming episodes but as for my dissertation, it's about alternative fuels.
Thanks for another great video. Was the water used to clean the holds fresh water from onboard or seawater and was that water part of the waste that you showed being offloaded? I second the comment of another viewer - it would be nice to have more detail about how the ship is balanced when cargo is loaded, in transit and being unloaded.
They will have used fresh water, the holds weren’t that bad after the fertiliser so wouldn’t have needed as much washing / pre washing (still not a small job by any means) They offloaded sludge which is engine room generated from oil purifiers etc. The wash water will be held in the wash tanks until appropriate to discharge it.
How rice is lost in loading? Second doing you have worry about dust explosions or fires? Also does a rice and similar cargo cause problems do the load shifting?
YOU DONT MENTION THE STABILITY CALCULATIONS . ARE THE CALCULATIONS DONE ON COMPUTER ? I WAS AT SEA 40 YEARS AGO AND I HAD TO DO THE CALCULATIONS BY HAND AND HAD TO MAKE AT LEAST 3 DIFFERENT CALCULATIONS ( PRIOR TO LOADING) DEPENDING ON THE STOWAGE FACTOR OF THE GRAIN . HOW IS IT DONE NOWADAYS ?
Is the passage through the straits because it's cheaper or faster or is it because of the restrictions in canal traffic due to the low water in lake Gatun?
I found it quiet, also. I didn't put the volume up to 100%, but most videos I listen to are okay soundwise at 50%, whereas this one, even at 88%, was still inaudible in places.
Hi Cheif, what are you doing to cargo spilled on the deck, as you shown in the video, are you going to collecte it and put it to the cargo holds or you just clean it away with air/water jet to the sea?
