In this video I sand blast a loading shovel big job normally they go a tad quicker and I would have had time to blast the bucket on this occasion the guy wanted to pick it up. Home time is home time to that guy finished or not 😂 was a few bits I would normally smarten up abit.
fine plus crushed glass was used.

Sorry mate, but this is bad video - not from technical point of view, but from watcher perspective > you never show how you do whole part. You just cut it and that's it really wrong! I was looking forward to see how you clean whole wheel at 4:15 and you just cut it!

Yeah 1st off thx for taking the time to add some constructive criticism its what I need to try and make the best content possible 👍💞 that's appreciated 😊 my only real answer is its 8 hours worth of work crushed into 7 or so minutes. This 1 was actually edited on my phone and I was limited to 7 minutes or so before it would start and crash its shows in some transitions I've since got a better pc and bigger sd cards for my camera as I really am enjoying the challenge of trying to make the best content possible.

I did this kind of work for 12 years. Was a custom painter and body man for domestic cars and heavy machinery like ST8 Scooprtrams, Road Graders, School buses, Terex heavy hauler, plus an onslaught of rigs from International, Mac, Mitsubishi, Freightliner, etc. I have to say, I don't miss it at all...lol. We use to mask everything especially the exposed chrome cylinders to protect them from damage and from the black sharp grit. Anything that could come off came off to make it easier. Wires, hoses, and cables were wrapped in rags. I had full suit and face shield with air flow in the suit. After it was done it had to be blown off really good. Every nook and cranny. Then came the sanding of the whole machine. We spay XIM all in one to bare metal and then paint with the usual yellow paint from 'De Soto' paints. It's a strong paint and pretty chip resistant and makes your eyes water spraying it. This would include if anything needed pin striping or company stripes, colors, etc. We also used a special black rubber paint for the tires. It did a great job. We had a massive compressor in the shop as it was a huge auto body shop.
@Mobileblaster
@Mobileblaster 3 года назад
Oh cool sounds very similar to my line of work apart from the painting side I leave that to my brother he's owns a bodyshop wagons plant and light commercial 👍 I've found that using a softer grit and keep away from the chrome I've been OK so far not to course damage 🤞😂

@@Mobileblaster I had preferred the painting over the blasting..lol. When you are responsible for dealing with thousands of dollars for equipment that doesn't belong to you, you take every safety precaution and rule out any cutting corners or carelessness. Yeah we tried a powder blasting one time and hated it. It was far too slow and messy. I can't remember the grade of sand we used but I know it was a diamond grit and cuts really fast. You train to be quick and skillful with the blaster as it is a dangerous apparatus that can slice you up pretty good. I blasted further in distance then you did because of how fast it would cut. The coverage was faster too. It can deal some damage on the chrome cylinders, rims, etc., I tell ya. All it takes is to accidentally trip and that fat nozzle is aimed at the cylinder and bam, scorched. I would have been fired if I didn't cover them as it is a customers machine and not our own. I had to learn to work safely, fast and paint fast as we would get just a bit backlogged. We enjoyed the slower days though..lol. But I must say, after sand blasting a machine it sure looks great huh? Much easier to work with for a painter after it has been sanded and masked up. Some paint the wires and hoses and not bother to even mask. I think doing that looks absolutely gross and unprofessional. YOu should cover those windows too. For the information stickers or any serial plates welded on that can not be replaced, we would double or triple mask them and grab the smaller blaster for far less pressure and material output. Much better control as well. You can then get right up to the plates that way and then feather edge the rest. You gave a lot of room for sanding so in that particular case it would come out just fine. The air pressure, material output flow, type of material, the distance, and the angle you hold your nozzle all plays a part in how good the results will be. I'm going to take a shower now as I feel gritty sand all over me just from taking about it...lol. Oh, the job you did on the shovel in the video looked great.
@Mobileblaster
@Mobileblaster 3 года назад
@@musicbycandlelightmbc3225 I think the way you are describing the blaster you use is full out power. I do things a little different I can full on blast a chrome cylinder pipes and wires with out damage. I've perfected the process that best suits my style not full out power and full out cut rate. I don't believe that's the key I believe just enough is a tad slower cut but the time you save not needing to remove pipes mask up and replace said works out faster. The only issues I've had doing it this way I once didn't mask the cab screen off and etched the glass since that every wheel loader screen gets masked. Sometimes if I require a heavy grit I do mask cylinders up but possibly not needed as I only go up 1 grade or 2 👍

@sshep7119 3 года назад
Media depends on the project, coal slag is super sharp and aggressive really cuts through heavy stuff, glass is often cheap works well for some scenarios and has its drawbacks for others, walnut (or corn) shell for delicate work, blasting sand (not play sand) gets the job dohe eventually, there are plenty of media types. Most importantly is to ALWAYS wear a respirator and proper protective equipment to match the media, gloves, lungs, skin, eyes are all susceptible to the media and super fine stuff floating afound in the air. If you wanted to get adventurous and were open to reclaiming, you can get fine steel shot and just use a magnet broom for cleanup. It really reduces the dust, down to near zero, but the cost if the shot is expensive as well as the proper pressure pot. The plus side is that is hardly wears out, just keep reclaiming cleaning and reusing.

Currently the media I'm using is glass beads and black aluminum oxide which is about $35 for 25lbs at harbor freight, which isn't really cost effective since I get through that in about 5 minutes worth of blasting. Am I way overpaying for media or is this not too far off? Maybe any suggestions about the way my equipment is set up? P.S. Its for Automotive type stuff, Rims, Leaf springs, car bodies stuff like that, also am aware of the safety concerns I wear the appropriate PPE thanks for the concern.
@sshep7119
@sshep7119 3 года назад
@@CRegent90 For the rate you are going through media it sounds like the ceramic consumable tip has a diameter that is too big for the media size. Try a smaller tip first, if the media starts to clog up the tip you may have to run it through a sift or screen to make sure there are no big pieces of media. Also, one thing to remember, blasting peens and heats up thin sheet metal, so if you blast a large surface or unsupported structure and use high pressure you are going to make a mess out of the steel. You will be there for a month trying to work the material straight with a hammer and dolly.

The sand blasting is perfect but why don't disassemble before ? It would take some mechanical complications
@Mobileblaster
@Mobileblaster 3 года назад
That's not my job to disassemble it. In most case's it adds man hours to a job that hasn't got a good £ return so if we did start to disassemble we would have to charge to do so and then this would put the costs not worth doing. Hi the price is not in the job to disassemble any parts plus I'm a sand blaster not a fitter :) Not quite sure how the rest translates but I can only do what my customer asks for (If I start adding costs to remove items etc then it puts the price of the job not worth doing). I could also charge for tenting it up to stop the dust entering the landscape. Again the price is not in the job to do this! The media used and paint removed is none carcinogenic and bio degradable so no real reason to add costs to something that's not needed. The translate mentions bearings these are totally fine and not to be worried about a fresh shot of grease and they will be as good as before. please note these units are designed to work in quarries and harsh environments some soft dust (fine glass) isn't going to course failure. Side note I'm not new to blasting loading shovels and heavy equipment I've been doing these for years the same way and nether had any issues with pipes, rams, wires or bearings. Got to remember I only get 1 hit with what media I load for the day too fine and it's going to be a very long day too course it's not going to be a nice finish possible course alot of damage. These loading shovels have a mix of heavy scabs and easy paint so cannot win really

@@reidgilker4527 Yes I agree it's 2 different things hitting 30mm steel with crushed glass to prepare the serface for paint isn't going to damage the steel. @@Mobileblaster you wouldn't like to hear it,, But if rust is the problem you want to correct, to be safe, although it would be very time consuming and definitely not cost effective at the time, but it would be wise to remove everything mechanical, before hand, keeping in mind,, the cost of a rebuilt engine or transmission or the hydraulic pumps if your media found a way to get into any of it..

@@reidgilker4527 for whats planned for this unit I don't fink future proofing it was a concern it needed to look good and fast turn around to get it back on site. I've done alot of these for the same company and they are more than happy with the results. I know what your saying if you wanted a proper job and be 100% like new the man hours involved would make it cheaper to buy new. This processes is to make it look fresh with as little effort/money as possible. Its nearly impossible to say that the shot will course damage to any parts as my experience doing these units I've not had 1 failure. And these units get worked hard after. Just a side note I have a skidsteer I've blasted and painted for my self 10 or so years ago and that gets worked every day and nothing has failed on that.
