Hello Deanne, they’re beautiful! But … please watch out for slugs because straight after I filmed this video (back in 2020) I had an attack of slugs and/or snails and they ate everything! I was so disappointed. You can see my follow-up video all about what happened. You could try putting pellets or something gritty all around the base, hopefully that will help 🙏 I did not get to mine in time 😩🥰
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener oh! I’m so sorry you lost those beautiful plants, many thanks for warning me, I have lost other plants because of slugs some years back, but I now put coarse sand at the base of plants susceptible to slugs and snails.
hello Janette just watched this again. my lobelias (unnamed) are doing fine too. is yours still in the garden? the slugs/snails have left them alone this year. but one year they really nibbled on them and they of course died. believe me those dreaded animals? are still around so who knows why. i got a shock the other day when i stepped outside and nearly on a hedgehog😵Maybe that's the answer. good old hedgehogs😀sweltering again isn't it. the world around here is almost lockdown like with everyone staying in because of the heat🍺🍺🍹🍷🍦
Hi Sharon! No, my lobelias were completely eaten away. They’re gone now. But you are lucky to have a hedgehog as they eat all the slugs, I’d love to have one, although I don’t think I’ll ever get one living in my garden because of my dogs. But over the years I’m realising what plants slugs like and I’m trying to avoid those now. So annoying though 😊
Thank you for the information, I just picked some up today at the garden center here in the states. I was wondering how best to deal with it. Much appreciated.
Oh you are very welcome. I don’t have mine any more (this video was about 2 years ago) unfortunately the slugs and snails ate the stems so do watch out for that!! 🥰
Hi Janette - I cam over from Linda Vater's channel as you know. I put your videos on PLAY ALL to watch as I'm working (we are working from home here in Northeast US due to covid). Thing is - the PLAY ALL feature starts with the latest video and goes back - so I already know what happened to this beauty :(
🤣🤣 oh thank you so much, I appreciate that so much Iza. Linda was so lovely to give me a slot, very generous of her. So lovely to have a new gardening friend 😍😘
How time has changed for sure. 🤣🤣🤣. I just came from Colorado and picked up Cardinal Flower seeds. Glad to see you have a video on it. How is yours doing btw?
Ah … well … I don’t have it any more I am sorry to say because within a week the slugs and snails had eaten the lot of it. I tried copper rings too but these English snails are made of tough stuff and they walked right past them!! I’m having to learn what type of stems they prefer and trying to choose what not to plant because I am fighting a losing battle over here 🤣🥴😫
Hi Trish, I got it from www.primrose.co.uk You might have to type into google if my link doesn’t work. They have lots of different styles and I think it makes my dull corner look so much more interesting. I had wanted one for ages. Just type ‘mirrors’ into their search bar. Not too expensive either. I painted mine in grey but they also look lovely in the wooden colours. Thanks so much for watching 😁
Good morning John!! I lost mine too … to the slugs and snails!! They love those type of crunchy celery-like stems, things like dahlias too, so I’m very sorry to say it didn’t last very long in my garden either! Such a shame as a really wonderful looking plant. Wishing you a great week ♥️
Oh I thought it was on there because someone else has emailed me, but that could have been from my Facebook page of the same name. I will have a look. Thank you!
