Loc Journey Update: 3b/3c hair month 2 and month 3

Thank you guys for being patient with me on this loc update. It has been a STRUGGLE to say the least. Trying to loc 3b/3c hair is harder than I thought it would be. After having gone to 3 different salons, I was frustrated and unhappy with everyone’s work. During a trip to LA I hit up my homegirl Erinn and she was finally able to get me the locs I really truly want.

your hair IS going to loc. I'm annoyed that she would say that. Months 3, 4, & 5 were all pretty rough for me. Like you said, my hair has taught me to let go + stop trying to control what is going to happen... not only with my hair but in life in general. I'm a few weeks from being one year loc'd and I'm glad I didn't give up. Don't get my wrong, I have my days where I wanna cut all this shit off lol but I LOVE my hair. and I know you'll be happy you stuck it out. Your hair is beautiful and I'm learning to embrace every stage of the journey. Sending you love, Vic.

This is exactly why I stick to doing my own. Everybody would tell me the same thing. I have the exact same hair texture you have and it's sucks to not know what to do. But this encouraged me to not give up. 🙌🏾

Thanks for such a real, transparent video. I had struggles with liking my loc journey as well. It’s hard not having any real control over what your hair does. But like you I had to just accept what my hair chose to do and go with the flow. I love it here now. 8 months in. 💕 your hair is budding beautifully.

So accurate, the hair does what it wants to do... I have 3b/4a hair and don’t trip the roots unraveling; in fact, after watching so many loc videos, I’m not expecting anything in terms of a permanent look for at least a year or two into the journey... as for people telling you “your hair won’t lock” bla bla bla... keep ignoring them, they think locs are only for tight coiled, coarse hair🙄 I’ve seen countless women with your texture rocking beautifully coiled locs✌🏾

Keep going gurl. The struggle is real but It will happen. Imperfectly perfect. Try spraying daily with salt water that helps it loc too and also no conditioner until its really locced. Just water and oil daily. I have 4a, 4b hair, it took 6 months to see any budding but I am a year now and so happy, my ends are waving and curly, butterfly looking locs and I started them myself and retwist myself. My 11 year old daughter has the same texture as you and I am going to try to loc her up this month. Learn to retwist yourself too, it is an empowering experience. Good luck.

If you have this type of hair. Keep it in a style. LEAVE it ALONE. Tie it up at night and wait it out. This is doing to much. Ask for a pin up and live it alone
@lx9037

exactly. i have this hair texture and use one product. wash it once a week. used to separate them but stopped. they form as they please. no longer into longer trying to compare because if it's one thing this taught me is to love my uniqueness. getting locked is not the goal for me anymore. although that has happened. it's truly letting go of the constant need to maintain and style it. it does it eventually. just enjoy life and chill.

Freeform Queen!! All organic! You will have thick, healthy locs within a year or 2 if u are patient! I'm 8 months in & I have a mix of 3c-4a hair texture. The journey is worth the thick & healthy locs! Retwisting is counter productive to me. It's only for aesthetic purposes only & won't last no matter what u do. Be mindful of the products u use if u do choose to consistently retwist. Avoid heavy waxes & gels! Oil & water works best! I do coldwater rinses 2-3 times a week & I wash my locs with raw african black soap about once every 2 weeks, sometimes once a month. I spritz with my own herbal rose water daily & I put rose/lavender oil with a little vitamin e occasionally when needed! I recently did an acv/baking soda soak during month 7 to remove all buildup & rebalance the ph levels of my scalp! I wish u the best on your journey!! Peace & blessings! ❤️

I have the same hair texture, I’m 10 months in, it definitely starts forming and doing it own thing. The ends and roots for me are still the hardest to deal with bc my roots, like yours, don’t want to stay twisted and the ends are still super loose and curly. Bright side, it looks cool like natural goddess locs 😂

Thanks for sharing!! I’m a total noob in all my research and just got my hair coiled today so take what I say with a grain of salt but, it seems like you weren’t given proper instruction for upkeep. Our hair type requires very very little manipulation, otherwise it’ll just keep unraveling. My loctician and a few other videos told me to LEAVE IT ALONE. You were touching, wetting, styling, and even brushing which is a huge no. Anyone else with 3C just ask for the locs to be French braided and LEAVE IT ALONE. Only products you should use until it’s locked is peppermint, tea tree oil and rose water.
@ajamoody9412
@ajamoody9412 2 года назад
I know why your hair isn’t locking. They method that your loctitian used DOES work but because she used so much moisturizer it would take 6 months to a year without any manipulation. You and I have the same hair type. I did mine dry with no moisturizer, only oils to the scalp when needed. But when I formed them I washed them thoroughly and informed them dry. Our kind of hair will not loc with loc gel or whatever she used. The twists are the proper method. I know it seems like that’s not what you asked for but what they did was correct. If you leave it in those twists, your hair will turn into locs in about a month
@munchedmuffin

Yeah I have the same texture as her (and thinking about starting my locks) and I’m wondering why she chose the coil method over the twist method?

So sorry you had those unpleasant experiences getting your locs started. Locs are fascinating to look at and I definitely get the obsession with putting your hands in it or putting product in it so that it doesn't look unruly. But my loctician said don't get it wet and just let your hair do it's thing. The whole reason I got locs was to not be in my hair. Even when my hair was loose I really wasn't in it a whole lot except to wash it, but I was a product junky. 4 months into my journey and I am learning to let go of controlling my hair and letting go of products that no longer serve my hair. Keep it simple. Check out Yannie, the Locologist. She shares such wisdom on caring for your locs.

Your hair might just be a tad bit looser in texture than mine. My loctician started my locs by interlocking mine.. have you considered doing that? Our texture has the tendency to unravel and interlocking is a cool option.

Wow! I thought it was only me 😩 I had instant locs installed…thought I’d come out cute coz the few I crotchet myself were cute and puffy. But LAWD!!! Brother man that did my hair had me looking like some spider spawn or something 😭 I asked for half my money back and got blocked. I went in with specific instructions: Diamond pattern, locs same size as the ones I had done myself. He said okay but I ended up with so many parting shapes I looked like the Tetris game 💔 I’m busy combing them out now so that I can have my hair parted properly and start with coils instead. Thank you for this honest unfiltered journey!!! I’d rather have this than to look like a damn spider spawn again 🥴💔

I'm LOLing @ your attitude with the woman telling you three months ago that your hair wasn't going to loc, and you opening this video basically saying "so I've accepted that my roots aren't going to loc." Agree with the other commenter about interlocking, you seem to really want your hair to be neat, interlocking might get you there faster? My sister and I have 3b hair, hers locked after several SEVERAL months because she left it alone. Mine seems to be coming along faster but I back comb and lightly palm roll regularly (too much). I never stretch the roots to put my hair "up" as that seems counter productive. In your next update, can you share a pic of what you expected your dreads to mature into?
