UPDATE!!!! Hello guys, we wanted to give you an update on the status of the beach warungs in Canggu, Bali. We're pleased to let you guys know that an agreement was made between the warung owners and the banjar (local government). The old warungs were knocked down and a new set of warungs were built. All of the new warungs are the same and come with electricity and proper bathrooms. The owners will pay the banjar a monthly rental fee and will be allowed to continue to run their businesses on the beach. We're really happy that a solution was found and we're grateful that all of our local friends will keep their jobs. Like we said in the video, the beach warungs are incredibly important to us. This is where our love for Indonesia first began, and this is a place where Indonesians and foreigners can come together and still have a taste of local life in Bali. If you ever visit Canggu, please go support our friends at Edgewater. Whether you want to take a surf lesson or just have a coconut by the beach, definitely stop by. And if we're ever in Bali, there's a good chance you'll see us here for sunset. We're not sure if the video had a direct impact on the agreement, but either way we're happy we were able to show you a little bit of what our lives are like in Bali, and introduce you to all of our amazing local friends who come from all different parts of Indonesia. Semangat 🇮🇩
Yes..I agree with you both...as Indonesian I believe we're dragged more and more towards over-consumerism and capitalitic nature of economy to the point that we sacrifice the true essence of being Indonesian. No more hospitality and social-driven communities, only a handful of greedy companies and no respect to nature... I hope your small action to bring this issue forward could lead to much bigger movement and become the primary attention for our government especially in Bali. We support you The Lost Boys...hope your voice be heard.
Yes, the true essence of Indonesia is beautiful nature, hospitality, and community. Which still exists in so many places but is at risk with the over-development of many places as well. We can only hope that this becomes a small catalyst for some type of change and show what is really being lost. Thank you so much for your support 🙏
I am afraid that you are not dragged into this fancy and fashionable overpriced tourism by many Indonesian nationals but being pushed or lured into it by snobbish foreign tourists willing to pay 5-10 times the beach warung price is some snobbish beach "club" - they are the ones driving this nonsense= demand and supply= capitalism. Next time you home from canggu you or your driver will likely be beaten up if you even use a go-jek or grab car or other online taxi, so the community there support this high class foreign fashion tourism
I have to say, it’s a huge problem here and much more complicated. You can’t even pursue the government because the government is on the side of the big business and is supporting it, plus driven by global capitalism. Over consumption is just the result of capitalism. If we want to cure the cancer, we should not drink ‘Bodreks’/‘ Paramex’ but root out the system it self.
@@kimhessel2215 it’s happening everywhere, even here in Portugal. Tourism today is dictated by global capitalism through investments in order to get super profit, and yet still creating jobs with small wage like in Bali. I tell you one example how unsustainable this tourism is, bali is now having water crisis in the north due to the creations of hotels with pools etc. it has been rapidly destroying the local way of farming called ‘SUBAK’. As consequence, the villagers are pushed to move to the more touristic areas to obtain the jobs. This is extremely complicated situation that unfortunately the government is supporting this unsustainable tourism.
Canggu today is exactly like Kuta Beach in the 80s. look at Kuta now, bordered by walls, there is no natural place to feel comfortable natural atmosphere. I think tourists from developed countries are tired of the luxurious life they want to enjoy more of the virgin nature. so keep the authenticity of Bali's nature
I think you re wrong because it is exactly these rich foreign snobbish tourist who demand this fancy beach club and hotel, i mean when was the last time you paid 300$ for a hotel room in CAnggu or 10$ for a drink
We are on the same page. Totally agree. I'm native Indonesian who was born n raised in Jakarta, n my grandpa has a property in Nusadua that he bought 40 years ago. 10 - 15 years ago when I was kid, Canggu was still full of rice fields.. I enjoyed the nature n it was so lovely when I saw local farmers herding cows. It was so peaceful. But now.. Bali especially Canggu area is not my favorite destination anymore. Almost all rice fields there has turned into buildings. Too many villas, cafes, beach club have been built.. without proper infrastructure. Too crowded, too noisy. On the other hand for economy reason, so yeah.. I can't say much.
@@christafiorentina The last time I was there was 2002 ..it was changing then ...I used to spend my days in sanur at the old cafe bambu ..1998 -2002 I had alot of friends there including the owenr of cafe bambu who was also the head of the banjar in sanur. I was setting a business up there and planned to move out permenently in nov 2003. Sadly in the october of that year , just the month before, the bali bomb went off. I had an ex GF that called me from the street that night, she had just one minute earlier walked out and down the road. As my business was in some of the big hotels , the move never happened because the hotels went down to 3% occupancy ...so I put my plans on hold, and a few years later when Bali got busy again I was ready again, then two weeks before my GF became pregnant It was great news but the plan just went out of the window at that point. Now I have two kids and I would'nt change it for the world, but I do miss the old Bali as it was . I don't think I would feel like I belong like I used to.
@@usuallyblockedforspeakingt2803 Bali now especially in Canggu area is totally different. I don't know if I should be sad or otherwise for that change. Too crowded , too noisy.. poor infrastructure. The majority of the rice fields have turned into villas, cafes, beach club.. no more beautiful natural view there. There are too many snobbish (they are actually around my age) they earned money from there by being digital nomad. Nothing wrong with that, but many of them don't understand that we Indonesian especially Balinese have a culture that should be respected even by foreigners. They just want to show off their lifestyle in Bali, something they can't get in their hometown country. They make a vlog about it, got so many subscribers n got money from it. I personally have unsubscribe so many bule Bali channels, at first I thought maybe they could make any valuable content. But as time went on, I noticed.. most of them just create useless content. Bali or Indonesia has lost its authenticity in Canggu area. A few days ago I reprimanded a bule who posed in a bikini n made Hindu Pura as the background of her photo. Right now I'm still in Nusa Dua before heading back to Jakarta. Nusa Dua is still the most luxury location in Bali because it's very exclusive.
@@christafiorentina yup. that's so true. I'm happy for them for reaching their goals to build a villa in bali and became a successful content creator. but the fact that they take more than they give it pissed me off. it's all about ME & my lifestyle on instagram especially them influencers, not like the lost boys they're so down to earth, exploring kampungs & promoting local activities, foods & lifestyle.

HI GUYS , I THINK BOTH OF YOU MORE LIKE A BALINESE PEOPLE...BECAUSE YOU CARE ABOUT WARUNG LOCAL BUSINESS... I HOPE THIS VIDEO WILL MAKE A LOT OF PEOPLE IN BALI SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS
"Love your life is the best" ✌
This is the beauty about warung, people from another level can join together eat with their hand which you can't never find this kind of thing in big cafe/restaurant or hotel... destroying this kind of thing actually destroying thheir own tourism in bali
People from every place, race, class, religion, culture, ANYTHING, can come together in a relaxed atmosphere where nobody judges and share a meal/experience together. Community like this just doesn't exist within the walls of a club.
gw dulu tinggal di bali dan beach club belum sefamous sekarang. warung dipinggir pantai jadi tujuan langganan tempat nongkrong, surfing, main bola, tennis pantai ketemu anjing2 lucu, meeting lots of new people, good times! ga kebayang kalau pada akhirnya hampir semua warung di pantai yang rame akan digantiin sama beach club. it’s a whole different experience, so sad to hear that.
Thanks for using your platform to spread this issue, it's been a problem to many locals throughout Bali, it's been a serious problems that the govt never able to solve, I hope this content would help to spread the awareness of many people to support this cause, these people need this place for a living, stop "selling" Bali to be more exclusive to the rich only, Bali is for everyone!
This is the heart of Bali. I loved this video guys. Agus’ song actually made me cry a little bit! I hope I get to hang with you guys when I move to Belumbang next year! Keep up the great energy and awareness. Peace.
This video is very important.. the local government need to do something about it. Hope we can make it viral. Thank you for sharing this important message
This is all vlog content should be. Genuine, touching people hearts, friendship. Great job guys !!!
Gotta agreed with you guys, if you wanted to feel the REAL Bali, go to warungs & meet the locals, not to beach clubs, gotta stop this capitalism demolishing locals economy, Bali has enough beach clubs!
@@bungelonlevel2862 tp yang bikin warung masih orang indonesiakan? Orang indonesia berhak loh bekerja dimana saja di tanah indonesia tidak ada perbedaan orang lokal ato pendatang asal memenuhi kewajiban bayar pajaknya
This is increidle you are covering this story! It's really sad that the local warungs are being destroyed to build more hotels and beach clubs that Canggu doesn't need!
Agree been to all these warungs and just love them. Very sad to see so much of Bali being turned into western society. I use to love Canggu 10 years ago and loved it. Now won’t go near the place. Crying for your loss and minexx🥲🥲
@@bungelonlevel2862 trus kenapa kl bukan lokal bali?
Thank you very much to the Lost Boys for your creativity & your beautiful video. This video is a small "portrait" of the diversity of ethnics and nationals in Bali, one of the best international tourist destinations in the world! Yes, I absolutely agree with the Lost Boys. Warungs, local culture and nature of Bali , and its small people , should be protected by the government from greedy capitals ....Have a lovely weekend, guys...! Take care... Matursuksme...terima kasih...
People have to push through the Banjar Adats (the cultural leaders) to unite across all the 700 plus Bali villages and start designating as many beaches as possible for only local business's that meet a certain criteria. Or even just get the Banjar Adats in the surrounding areas and talk to them about how this will destroy what remains of Balinese culture in Canggu.
dam this video give me goosebumps... i can see why u guys love that local warung... To be honest that local warung is the one of the 'unique' side of indonesia coz its very local that hardly to find in western countries... Most of the foreigners that comes to visit indonesia becoz of it nature n culture that are one of the kind, n this local warung is part of those indonesian culture... I just wish n pray for Mr Sandiaga Uno wud have time to watch this video, coz he is one of those who have 'the power' to change the current situation.... n for my last words are ... I appreciate what u guys doing n pls keep ur love to indonesia
The Lost boys kalian sangat melokal,, content yang sangat bermanfaat untuk kita semua akan arti kebersamaan tanpa memandang suku, ras, & negara. Semua berbahagia dalam ketulusan yang hakiki. for the beautiful island of Bali, for happiness in simplicity, this is the real INDONESIA ❤️🇮🇩❤️
Went to Canggu and Ubud 3 days ago before heading back to Cairns. Enjoy your time in Indonesia. Should visit Labuan bajo and Island surrounding labuan bajo. Amazing place to visit
Pantai terhindah di Bali Indonesia Terlalu banyak tapi suka aja sama kehindahnnya -pantai Seminyak -pantai nyang Nyang -pantai Padang Padang -pantai suluban -Pantai Tegal wangi -pantai atuh - pantai amed -broken beach -nusa dua beach -kelingking beach -balangan beach -lovina beach -pandawa beach -menjangan island -melasti beach Sukses terus thelostboys ♥️👍👍
This video is so good! So wholesome and genuine. I hope you will do more daily vlogs like this. Many people including myself still love watching Bali content, especially from you guys, you always do it differently. And for the warungs, I hope there's a fair solution. Even if they get demolished, they get relocated to a better place without having the locals lose their jobs and tourists lose a nice place to hang out.
Thank you so much. We had so much fun and an amazing day filming this with all of our friends. This is a huge part of what our experience has been like in Bali. We can only hope it can be preserved in some way, for everyone 🙏
gantrification is the Biggest issue that make Local even harder.. imagine... Foreigner bring money in huge amout and come to Bali with low monthly income will drive price.. i dont care about balinese property skyrocketing, but for daily necessity like food.. this is become huge issue
This is rather heartbreaking. We all know that Bali has been turning into a short of over-expensive tourism spots, and one of the reason is the huge expansion of fancy cafes, restaurants, hotels etc. Not that is bad, but at the same time it erodes lots of Balinese roots itself, like this Warung Beach. Though we do not know the full story behind all this plan, we sincerely hope that there will be a transparent discussion between all the parties involved, and get to a point where everybody is winning and keep the Bali heart in its noble place. Bless you guys for bringing this up, hope your kind gesture will bring the best to this journey, aamiin :)
So proud for the both of you dude.... You're so concert about the situation there.... I hope you can make a chance for everybody there.... Hope to meet you guys
Thanks for making this video. Of all the thousands of 'Bali vlogging' videos out there this is by far the best I've seen. I can really see the connection you guys have there. I live in Java but visit Bali when I can and this is so sad to hear about another area being 'improved', ie cleared of local people's businesses to make way for big money. Really hope this video can influence the decision-making process here 🤞🤞🤞
Trimakasih lostboy
So sad to hear this hopefully there is a good solution for this situation. We are really feels how happy everybody there and hopefully Government will more supporting local business and they life. Thanks so much Rob and Cayenne for share this to us. Love you guys love it ❤️❤️🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿💐💐💐
Last time i came to Canggu in March 2022, i still can enjoy the beach, food and drink with normal price. I hope when i go there again, i can still feel the same vibe and situation. Honestly Bali do not need another "over-priced beach club". Local busines had already suffered too much because of pandemic. And destroy their place and change it with a beach club to feed a greedy corporation or called investors is not a good decision.
Wow, this is the first video in youtube that literally touched my heart. I kept smiling the whole time watching this video. And this tells me if happiness is simple. Regarding the warung, the government needs to determine some area that are specially made for authentic balinese style feeling in some beaches.
Lived in Bali my whole life, the stereotype for the foreigners is always that they are loud and not really respecting the locals. Really happy that you guys made this video to show that how the locals have been struggling especially this past few years with the modernization of Canggu and its nearby area. The main reason that me and my friend rarely go there is the price is too expensive for us locals, like not all of us can pay for it. Big thanks for the video, cheers
It’s so nice of you guys to do this special content dedicated to the local people and businesses! It does suck when it has to come to this, I just hope they will get way better than what they’re about to lose. Still hoping for a change of mind tho so I can visit the warung, even take some surfing lessons😔 thank you for doing this video, I know they appreciate it so much. Keep up the good work guys!
some people come to Bali with a lot of hope, we call it a warung, one of the traditional cultures that is the center for gathering from various people in Indonesia, really miss Canggu, love you guys.. and peace
Thats absolutely true. Old tradisi get lost. The young tourist arriving im Canggu prefer to go to the hip Restaurants and drink alkohol all day long. Most of the foreigners bule living in Bali dont speak any bahasa Indonesia and are not interested in history and traditional at all. This is a good report. More of this are appreciated.
Say Hi to Awan and Madeh for me! Their hospitality is unbeatable. Our experience at Edgewater along with all the people we met in Bali is what made our trip so special. I'd be sad to see this get taken away from them...
In Indonesia, now they are competing to establish an aesthetic mini cafe & restaurant, stalls are getting more and more difficult. Not only in Bali province but other provinces. Thank you for caring about people's concerns, you guys have a voice about this.
I hope there is a win win solution for that local warung and the goverment and investor.... Cangu berawa batu bolong are amazing beach... Many memories in those beaches....
OMG, This is kind of vlogs that deserve an award! This has to be viral and Indonesian especially Balinese has to support this! Appreciate this so much, guys! Ure all awesome! I can see that youre so genuine and you love our country with heart. Salute! Thanks alot! 💖💖💖😭😭 PS : Cant believe this vlog gave me goosebumps and makes me cry. Please, dont ruin my Bali 😭😭😭
