Loch Lomond Speed Limits 

Hi Nick, CH16 is still used as the emergency channel but there's no guarantee anyone will hear you. Because of the surrounding mountains you will sometimes not be picked up by the coastguard if you make a CH16 call. There is a repeater that picks up CH16 calls but even that doesn't pickup everything. The national park normally monitor CH16 from the Duncan Mills Slip Way during office hours but if you're at the other end of the Loch they may not hear you. Other marinas and boat operators may monitor CH16 at other parts of the day but it's not 100%. Unfortunately many boat owners on Loch Lomond don't turn their VHF on when they are out on their boats unless they need to make a call themselves!!!! The Loch Lomond Rescue Boat is contacted through calling the police from a mobile phone. Phone coverage on the loch varies depending on what provider you are with so having passengers with different phone providers can be useful.
