Jason Statham actually got this role specifically because he was so believable in it. No surprise, given before this, he was hustling fake perfume to tourists on main street, using the exact same lines.
Sadly not many of them left anymore...but back in the day go down any street market in London and they were ten a penny. Now most of street sellers in London are usually folks from other countries so there’s no ‘banter’ anymore...and as well as selling dodgy gear, for some, it’s a diversion whilst there mate picks the pockets lol
Have to say that this is one of the best films EVER made. Love it to bits. No matter how many times you watch it, it never gets old. Brilliant actors, dialogue and director.
The dialogue, especially the slang, is what really makes this movie SO DAMN GOOD. "Tighter than a duck's butt, you are". Classic stuff man, I love this movie so much
John Yang Yeah that’s the essence of both of the movies as well rocknrolla which is underrated but when you watch these movies it’s the collective which make them masterpieces, the characters and details within the story
This film has one of the most well put together plots I've seen. Everything looms in together perfectly and combined with the fast paced action scenes and cockney dialogue its an all round good movie.
I love the scene with the "Stolen Goods" It reminds me of my family trip to London when I was a kid. There were guys in the street going on about Stolen Goods and stolen property. The entertainment value of those guys was priceless. My dad gave him some dough for something. Suddenly a "Bobby" was walking nearby, and he scooped up his loot and dashed.
9:00 It's subtle but I like how the henchman has been giving drinks to Nick the whole movie and refuses to give him another after all that's happened to them.
Renyth holy shit I’ve seen this movie so many times and never noticed that, it’s a sign of a great film when there are subtleties to notice with more viewings. Thanks for that!
@Btec Bolshevik so why does he immediately walk back in without the drink? I thought he didn't want to be in the room while Rory Breaker was giving Nick shit? It's such an obvious joke that he takes the drink back because Nick has dropped it twice already, it is either astonishing that you don't get the joke or you're definitely trolling
I think it's more to do with him being smart enough not to piss off Rory even more. Nick accidentally dropping the glass of milk again would just infuriate Rory to the point where both the henchman and Nick will literally get killed
Love this movie. First time I watched it I almost laughed my ass off. These guys were good ya know. The whole premise of the film was great also, Grass, Guns worth a lot of money, Shakedowns by Lenny. The shootout in the grow house when the girl picks up the machine gun...has to be a classic Brit flick. Everyone ends up dead...Then when I saw Sting I was like wow.
I grew up in a Stepney crime family that helped control the fencing, selling of stolen real and counterfeit goods (mainly men's designer shirts). That's us that got a shout out when Jasob Statham said "hand stolen in Stepney" he used to work with us on occasion, doing exactly what he did in the first scene of this film.
Vinnie Jones transformed from the hard man of football to the lovable gangsta with his kid...chasing the priceless guns in this movie... he was brilliant..
Haha I've been using the "Chiill Winstaan" line since I first watched this film like 10 years ago.. Yet to know if anyone has ever gotten the reference. Criminally underrated film
