In 1976 when I started in law enforcement, one of the first things I was told was, "Locks are to keep honest people out." I can tell you through my experience an observation, if anyone want to get into your property or computer, for that matter your security system, the criminal empire already knows how to do it.
in 1978 when I joined the Navy, I learned that locks only slow down a criminal. Safes were rated in how many man/minutes it would take to breach. They are part, but only part, of a comprehensive security plan.
No, the CIA, NSA, FBI, no one can crack a properly performed disk encryption; don't flatter yourself. It would take longer than the age of the universe to do so
@Get on the cross and don’t look back Repent to Satan. For all those who touch little kids or try to indoctrinate people into a cult that supports it should stfu and neck themselves
Nice summary of all the problems with shimmable locks. You could also have included common bypass methods such as comb pick on MasterLock padlocks or twisting the actuator directly for American locks. LockPickingLawyer has lots of examples for these. Basically if you have a padlock that can be locked without a key, it's a crap lock.
@@migu250 Kerropa minkä Abloyn riippulukon saa kiinni ilman avainta?
@@serialcoins Actually, it is "Locks keep HONEST people HONEST." I have been locksmithing since 1974, I have said it all that time. A dishonest person does not care about what the lock represents. You can always build a better lock, but another locksmith will always figure out ways to bypass it. The difference between a Locksmith and a criminal, is a locksmith will do as little possible damage to your property in order to bypass the lock, a criminal will do as little WORK as possible to bypass the lock.
@Get on the cross and don’t look back Deuteronomy 22:28-29 “If a man meets a virgin who is not betrothed, and seizes her and lies with her, and they are found, then the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the young woman fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife, because he has violated her. He may not divorce her all his days." Your GOD condones RAPE and many other EVIL means of WORSHIPING HIM. Want to continue exchanging "QUOTES" from your fantasy book?
@Get on the cross and don’t look back Actually, that quote of yours is enough, "ALL ARE JUSTIFIED" that means, any sin is forgiven right? Murder, rape, incest, pillaging, abortion, all are JUSTIFIED, not just forgiven, but in the SIGHT OF YOUR GOD those actions are JUSTIFIED, they are OK to have happened, they were MEANT TO HAPPEN because it is all part of your god's PLAN. YOUR BEYOND EVIL GOD!
Yeah this only works on cheap locks, if you actually have a good lock then this will only very rarely work, picking works on pretty much all locks but take time to learn to do.
These things work only on the cheapest locks you can possibly find. And for shimming attacks as in 3:00 there are much more efficient tools available. Also LPL already demonstrated how these two wrenches are used more efficiently. The easiest way to open these locks would be a simple wave rake or even a comb pick.
Also filing the side of the lock to get at the pins…why would one ever do that. I mean without a vise it would take way longer than picking, or shimming, or any of the many methods, and if you can put it in a vise, it’s not any need to open it.
Well to be fair, LPL's method wont really work on the padlock shown in this video because of how high the shackle is. At least i can't see it working, not on this specific padlock.
actually he showed us totally new and ingenious ways to do it like the hammer and using the screw to pull out the bits so you can open it. Most of us already know about lock picks.
@@StarrDust0 Nah, he just showed a few flaws on individual padlocks. He didn't teach you anything you could reasonably expect to work on a random padlock- they're all designed differently. Didn't you wonder why he was changing designs? Because each method only works on that lock.
Locksmiths do not unlock $5 padlocks. We don't even sell $5 padlocks. Our time has more value than that. I feel sorry for the Locksmith who wants to make a living servicing cheap Chinese locks.
I have been called out to remove Master #120D Tiny Brass padlocks from electric meter boxes for a homeowner. They lost the key. I had trouble unlocking them, you need the much smaller than normal picks for these, which I did not have with me. Clipped them off. Amazing client did not have some pruning shears to do it herself.
Yes, these are basically master locks, very low level of security. They may keep someone who doesn't know how to pick locks out. Honestly, if you are going to bring tools into the game and you have no problem with destroying the lock, why not just use bolt cutters?
As a locksmith I can tell you that putting out the cheapest lock you can find and acting like all locks are that easy to bypass is exactly what WE WANT YOU TO BELIEVE, because then you will actually ASK US so you can buy BETTER LOCKS.
That, and as a Locksmith, I couldn't care less if you know this. The manufacturers are the one's that care. Also to your point, if you know this you might seek our expertise to find locks that are actually worth a damn.
As a buisness owner of a key cutting shop and learning locksmithing this is a kid play padlocks and also the reason why I have to cut so many padlock keys from already broken keys and pins that are messed up so having to adjust the cut to compensate
These locks are only used on empty sheds for appearance sake. You can also roundhouse kick the lock off if you forget the key, and don't have any tools handy.
As a locksmith, anytime I get called out to open a padlock, I just grab my grinder and cut the thing off. Its a padlock, likely one that's easily replaced. Doing anything else is a waste of time.
@@claudegaumond6754 Considering that a thief's main point of entry to a home is usually by breaking a door or window, I have no doubt that a thief would be willing to make noise. There's also plenty of videos showing someone grinding off a lock for things like motorcycles.
I'm pretty sure 90% of any locksmith that sees a cheap $10 lock like that would laugh, cut it off, then hand you a new $20 lock after they charged you $150 just for showing up. You've got 3.5 million views out of this vid though so I guess you're still winning🤷👍
@@evancoles2257 would take you longer to walk back to the truck to get the bolt cutters to cut it off than to just rake that cheap ass lock with a pick set that was probably in your pocket already. You played yourself.
We live in the day of LPL. Very difficult to do a lock video that grabs the attention of viewers. He's pretty much done it all and then some. Lots of questions here that can be answered in his videos. Nice job still.
@Get on the cross and don’t look back GOD, PLEASE COOK MY DINNER Some people believe God can work miracles, like cure advanced cancer or save people in terrible plane crashes. The Bible tells us that God can do anything, he can even move a mountain into the sea. These are extraordinary things. I would just like God to do something simple. When I get home from work late and dead tired, I would like to put my food on the kitchen table and have God cook it for me. Or, if that is selfish of me, I would like him to notice when an elderly woman, alone in her cold house, is dying from hypothermia and make the house warm for her. Or, if she has become too weak to get out of her chair, to make her a cup of tea and boil her an egg. Oddly, there is no known case of God doing any of these very simple things--things that almost any human could, and would, do for someone in need. God only does things that could happen without God--a proportion of people with cancer do go into remission, and sometimes there are survivors of plane crashes. But dinners do not cook themselves and cold houses do not make themselves warm. Think about this for a moment. It means the world behaves EXACTLY as it would if there was no God at all. If only God would just boil an egg once in a while. But he won't.
For the record I am a locksmith who doesn't care who knows how to get into five buck padlocks or how they are constructed. Pro tip, never use WD40 in locks. Gums them up
@@jays2litt Roger that. I sent Bosnian Bill several cans of Houdini hoping he would quit touting the goo. After enough smiths went nutz on him about WD he quit it to his credit
This is some jerk who made shitty video and cherry on top, that last shown idea (why almost everyone came here, fails) or it's just "how to clean and oil plastic lock. That jackass should go back to learn something, this man isn't going in bank security cash storage, or if, then it's made from bamboo, and you can't put so much that money in car, it would be worth of lollipop.
Whenever you can, use shielded models, or concealed shackle puck design. Many Master, American and PacLock models are available to take commercial lock cylinders, allowing you to choose the level of security and key control.
As a locksmith of 20+ years the locks used in this video are the absolute cheapest padlocks on the market! They are all defeated easily using several methods. Good quality padlocks won’t be defeated like this.
Are these gifts from a box of corn flakes? That doesn't work with ANY lock of a known brand. Screwing out the pins with a wood screw? Opening with one gentle hit of a hammer? LMAO xD
Попробовал , сам лично почтовый замок , открыть ударом молотка, "дешманский " из FixPrice'а , получилось фиаско.Что было показано 0:22 , на видео пахоже , на фокус.
I lost a storage locker padlock key once, when I had to move out we used a flathead screwdriver and hammer. The lock opened on the very first hit. And I thought I had bought a decent lock for that storage but turns out not.
Are you mute? it would help if you'd just speak and say what you mean, instead of tapping with fingers, but quite neat tricks. I've always wondered if it's possible to use some liquid + pressure to pop a lock open.
It’s not that locksmiths don’t want to teach people how to open locks, it’s because they have professional ethics. You put it on the Internet and let people learn it, but you don’t know if he will steal it. The lock is to make every family safe, and it’s not safe for everyone to know.
I disagree. I think lock security should be treated exactly like computer security. The locks featured here have clear vulnerabilities that can be prevented. Lock makers that still produce these locks rely on consumer ignorance. Raising awareness is the only way to get consumers to avoid poor locks. These locks can have a purpose in securing inexpensive material (clothes, generic documents, etc), but should never be used for high security (guns, computers, jewelry). This video helps raise awareness that flawed locks are still in common usage and consumers need to learn of these flaws so they know what to look for.
The problem is that a lock is somewhere on, so you can not take it in your hands so easy and do those thinks... I think if you want to open a loch which is somewhere on, it will be not so easy.
As far as destructive opening methods, did you know a cutting torch also work? If a customer doesn't care about destroying a lock, I'll tell them how to best to open it for free. It's the non destructive methods where I have to go onsite where I charge.
cutting torch is a bit excessive for a padlock dont you think, bruh? all you need is a set of boltcutters for getting through most of those. or a grinder with a zipdisc
For those of you saying why not just use bolt cutters because obviously if you use bolt cutters you couldn't put the lock back together the first couple ways he shows you to unlock a lock you can relock it and no one would be the wiser
I would build a shed door that has padlock on other side and visible hinges on other side. But lock and hinges would be fake and door would have real hinges on lock side and it would open inside. You would only lift simple bolt with credit card or ruler. No keyhole or doorknob. Just push.
Every defense has a flaw. Locks are only good vs the unprepared. I lock my bike as well as possible. But no option is perfect. A good thief can defeat almost anything. The perfect lock is covered in a highly dangerous poison. Likely would get you some serious jail time though.
