Grew up in Hawai‘i here, then moved to Japan and now living in Hawai‘i's "ninth island" (Las Vegas). That Loco Moco looks so ‘ono (delicious)! If you want to cook more "Hawaiian" food, you gotta embrace spam...... haha! Jokes aside, there's so much good food in Hawai‘i and I look forward to more recipes from you and Dude!
Local girl here living on the east coast...@flolum you definitely need to embrace the Spam! Spam musubi, spam in McDonald's breakfast, spam in the saimin, spam in the fried rice...
Da bugga look onolicous. Also can make loco moco with kalua pork, Portuguese sausage, spam, baloney and even char siu. Dont forget da mac salad which is also good with gravy.
Being that we are from Hawaii this we’re watching this video with peaked interest! You did a great job!! As a person who worked in the hospitality industry for many years here in Hawaii when people ask me what Loco Moco is I ask them if they’re familiar with Poutine. The concept is the same for the most part. Instead of fries, it’s a bed of rice. Instead of curds or crumbled meat, it’s a hamburger patty or 2. And instead of a white gravy it’s a thicker savory gravy. And the over easy egg just puts it over the top! On another topic we’ve been to your town of Vancouver several times and we love it there! I think it’s time you and your family to come here to Hawaii and enjoy our flavors and culture!! Would like to take you and the Dude to enjoy the authentic flavors of Hawaii!!
Grew up with Loco Moco in town of Hilo on Hawaii island where this dish was first invented at Cafe 100 when the nisei from the 100th Bat returned from WW2. Your version looks legit to me...I think I'll make it for dinner tonight! Hawaii is so full of different cultural foods due to the great mix of nationalities brought over to work the sugar cane fields! Thanks for all your great recipes.
Yummy yum yummy, I'm going to try to make this recipe. Gravy and rice is there anything better. Mmmmmmmm. Thank you for sharing Flo and Dude have a blessed evening stay safe and healthy. 🙏❤🙏❤
Sous vide is my go to now. I just picked up a Blackstone grill so now I fry the rice too. Grab a Blackstone if you can, it's flat top cooking at it's finest. No more splatters anymore.
Hi Flo & Dude 👋🏼. Love when Dude says “Dude!” There is an amazing restaurant in West Seattle, Washington named Marination Ma Kai…I love their Loco Moco! Head to Maui when you are ready ☀️. Aloha!
Aloha Flo and Dude! Your Loco Moco looks better than most plate lunch places here, seriously! That looks winnahs! 🤙 All you’re missing to complete the Hawaiian plate lunch, is a scoop of macaroni salad. And gotta be drowning in gravy. 😋
Nailed it 🤙🏼. Aloha y'all. Man I miss going to Vancouver. I miss Stepho's calamari salad and numero unos pizza. Wait, the poutine and waffle cone ice cream at Costco's!!!
The patty would probably be great in the air fryer and also, isn’t commercially packaged ground meat supposed to be cooked through to prevent illness since all the surface of the meat gets ground up and the bacteria is mixed in?
According to blog.thermoworks.com/beef/moist-flavorful-burgers-safe-eat-2/ “In his book Cooking for Geeks, Jeff Potter explains one way around this problem: “…if you have a way of cooking your burger to a lower temperature and then holding it at temperature long enough to pasteurize it, you could avoid denaturing the actin proteins while still pasteurizing the meat.” Translation: if you can get your burgers to 140°F internal temperature and then hold them there for 12 minutes you can kill the bacteria without overcooking your burger (as recommended by the Hospitality Institute of Technology and Management).”
Looks really yummy….. I tried going thru your videos… I have a visual disability… do you have a Choy Fun recipe? I don’t know how to spell it? My mom was Hawaiian and I’m guessing it was a Chinese dish. Noodles and veggies….. soooo good!
This is not traditional Cantonese style chow fun but here is a Malaysian one if interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sjkYVWbLImE.html
