For about 18 months in the mid 8s I commuted to London from Bexleyheath. Always remember the "relatives" of these coming from Hastings- slightly narrower bodies of course.

Loving these videos, it's great the railway is getting a larger digital presence. Can't wait for the next one.

I remember it taking me by surprise on its move to Alton as I waited at Surbiton for my train to Basingstoke on 18th May 2004!

Love the thumpers, was gobsmacked when I saw my first 207 (3D) at East Croydon, I think in 1960, possibly earlier. A small correction however; by the commentator's own admission, 1125 was not stopped until 2004, so the class must have still been operating then, not finished in 2003 as he states. I know this independently as I have video which I took of 205s on the Ashford Hastings route in January 2004. A minor point. The main thing is that we can still see them at work, although I'll not now ride in one again, being back in Australia probably for the rest of the natural...

amazing how these type of units get more complicated & expensive to build as time goes on but seem to have much shorter service lives than the 'primitive' early examples.

Good to see 1125 getting bodywork tlc, and interesting to hear in detail about the issues with 3-car sets on the line. Personally I'd love to see 1125 made back up to a 3-car set, there's only one other 3-car Hampshire unit in operation in the UK, well away from their original operating areas in the south. But there are 2 centre cars up for disposal in Devon, so how about it, 3-car for those busy events when capacity is required, and 2-car if its running alone in frosty times :)

Yes, would certainly like to see it as a 3-car.

My son is special needs and he loves trains 🚆🛤🚂🚃🚄🚅🚇🚈🚉🚊🚝🚞🚋 especially diesel multiple units like those he thinks they are highly underrated rail transportation vehicles and all should be preserved, restored, and put back into service. He also thinks that Progress Rail, Siemens, or any other company that builds railroad equipment should build clones of these and the departments of transportation should restore and rebuild railroad lines that were abandoned and/or removed and run these on them. But not just in Britain 🇬🇧 in North America 🇺🇸🇨🇦 as well.

Another really good video. Shame there weren't any photo stills from the 90's and 00's in the montage as I'm sure this unit will have worn both NSE and Connex liveries in that time.

i dont know if the same type used to work the portsmouth to southampton line in the 1970s but missed the noise when they had gone you could hear them miles away

Nice work, however I would have liked if you had explained the enhanced acceleration and braking in the beginning when you were explaining what a multiple unit is

Pretty sure that these units were uprated from 500hp to 600hp to improve their performance

I think you got the Bogies the wrong way round sir! They were built with Express Gear Ratios as they were Built for 90mph running and Bogies were swapped with New EPB Units after the Bogie Swap the Hampshire's had a Maximum Speed of 75mph the EPBs that gained the ex Hampshire Bogies were on Paper 75mph Capable but Were in fact capable of 90mph!
