This series of Trails character studies, particularly the Enforcers in this case, is an in-depth analysis of the upright and reverse tarot archetypes, represented by the major arcana the Enforcers represent. Let's dive into how the tarot applies to the character growth (or lack thereof) of characters from the Trails series, or Kiseki set of games as it's known in Japanese.
This video focuses on Loewe, Ouroboros Enforcer II, the High Priestess~
Video will have SPOILERS for all the Trails in the Sky games, and even a bit from Cold Steel 2

As harmful as gender roles can be, I think there's benefit in exploring how society has shaped them into the stereotypes we see today. Loewe had always struck me as the person Joshua would grow up to be if Joshua hadn’t met Estelle. I think one of the ways Falcom highlights Joshua’s arc is by contrasting him with Loewe. It’s something that really comes up when they confront each other at the end of SC. That’s probably my favorite Loewe moment. And even though Loewe was disillusioned with the world and himself, I think he always had faith that Joshua could find the hope that he couldn’t. Anyway, I really want to hear more about Loewe and McBurn’s relationship. I wonder what kind of dynamic they had lol.

We never really saw ir read stories about McBro’s relationship with the Bladelord, didn’t we. To think, a human can match blow for blow with what is described as a literal demon.

This was a great analysis of one of my favourite Trails antagonists. I think the Loewe moment that stood out to me the most was his 1v1 with Joshua at the end of Sky SC. I love the animation and how it demonstrates each character's strengths, and there's also their clash of ideals. Loewe believed that humanity needs to be put to the test in such a forceful manner, whereas Joshua, thanks to his experiences with Estelle, believes that people can eventually answer for their mistakes as long as they work together.

I teared up there at the end. Loewe really is just such a great character. I loved his final confrontation with Joshua in the 3rd. I took Renne with me as well as Estelle. I felt like they needed that moment. Rennes goodbye to Loewe was so sad and I'm almost crying again remembering it. I really wish Loewe could have lived and be a main character later on, but I guess his death gave him the chance to see Karin again. I still wish he could have been playable. He was such a great guy. And Silver Will is still a banger! That song always plays at the right moment and I love it!

I'm a bit late to this one, but this was a great look at Loewe! I always really appreciated his respect for life, which is something Renne and Walter never had in SC. I mean, look at how he's all ready to take out Agate, but Tita comes along and he decides he can't go through with it. And then he ends up switching sides eventually, too. My only disappointment is that he dies and we only have a few memories to go through the rest of the series.

Anima and Animus are Jungian concepts you don't see covered in Persona, so it's interesting to hear them brought up here. They probably get ignored because they can feel a bit sexist nowadays, but I kind of wonder if they could've been relevant to Kanji and Naoto's arcs in P4. Anyway... Given how the Magician and Priestess Arcanas are parallels, I'm surprised there's very little developed relationships between the characters of those Arcanas in the Persona games. Think about it: Junpei and Fuuka, Yosuke and Yukiko, Morgana and Makoto. None of these three are pairs with any significant interactions in their games. Knowing the symbolism, it's kind of weird. I don't have a lot to say here as I agree with everything you said. It's very rare you see a male Priestess character but with your explanation I can't see him being any other Arcana. Though he's more Joshua's big bro than a mom. (I find it's an interesting "surrogate siblings" relationship, because they actually would have been brothers-in-law in happier times) Loewe moments? Well the fact he has something unique to say to EVERY party member after his last fight is insane. I really need to reload my save and go for some more, since I've only see Kevin, Olivier and Kloe's so far. (Arts >>>>>>>>> Phys in Sky SC, so I don't often bring people like Agate or Zin to the final boss) One thing from Loewe Monogatari that's super interesting though: there's a bit where they say that by accepting a weapon made from Divergent Laws, you become "a Carnage". This is kind of awkwardly worded in the scanlation, but the term appeared a few times in SC and the official localization didn't translate it consistently. This could be a potential problem in a future game if it turns out to be something important, given what we later learn about McBurn. In Japanese, this word is "Shura", or 修羅. It comes from a mythological being from Buddhism and Hinduism (and a few other religions I think?), but the interesting part is it's actually gained a metaphorical use in modern Japan, to quote a google search answer: "In Japanese, we sometimes use it to describe a person who fell into a situation in which they have to fight an endless war against something, in a relentless and inhumane manner." So that makes things... complicated. Shura here could be metaphorical (what the localization went with), OR it could be literal. And we won't know until... probably at least 5 more games. Translating terms from long-running series is really hard that way.

I like to think that anima and animus would've fit well in Kanji and Naoto's arcs, especially because many Asian cultures are still very traditional when it comes to gender roles :/ And that's an interesting point about all the Persona Magician/Priestess interactions we've had so far...maybe because it's not as clear-cut that they're counterparts, unlike the Empress and Emperor (though speaking of those pairs, we don't see a whole lot of interactions between them in the base games either...) Whoaaa I guess I didn't catch that in the manga! That's super interesting and something I'm def looking forward to learning more about in future games. Especially with the way things are going in Zemuria... wonder how they'll end up localizing it.

A Shura Asura (like the six-armed protagonist of Asura’s Wrath) Makes sense it means someone who fights a forever war since bracers and jaegers do essentially that, and you have people like Three and Nine, or Rean, constantly fighting their own battles to make it to tomorrow.

@@LadyVirgilia Now that I think about it Priestess and Hierophant are also kind of counterparts, representing female and male spiritual guides respectively. Since Hiero in Persona is heavily associated with older men though they're also not contrasted much. Akihiko and Mitsuru are kind of the only Empress/Emperor pair that has a developed relationship. Some people say P3 in general leaned into the Tarot symbolism a lot more than 4 and 5 did. Btw, "Shura" is NOT use for any of Rean or McBurn's powers. "Ogre power" is a literal translation there. This page lists the 4 lines with "shura" in them in the Japanese version. kiseki.fandom.com/wiki/Carnage (seems like the localization vaguely uses the phrase "my power" as a translation) It also notes that Loewe's age has always been listed as "?" in official materials. Hmm...
