You have given me and my family a new lease on life. (no pun intended) I'm currently a homeowner and underwater. I am stressed beyond belief. I intend to look for some land and live the way you do. The way we live now is exausting! Thank you so very much.

I'm amazed how simple this sounds. These videos make me think I could do it- just need to get land. Thanks

Ha, I get that question a lot! I left off one floor board and brought up all the big stuff that way. The loft door is 3x3 so its as big as a standard door and most stuff slides right up!

I love the idea of minimal living and I think you are very creative! I would however make in my own design more space by creating spaces that transform into other spaces. The latter to your loft could be designed to be removable stairs when you need it that you can compact on themselves and store in a hidden space at the bottom of the loft. I also think creating a larger loft by extending the height of the house would have been ideal. You have given me great ideas! Thanks for showing me it's possible!

Every worldly possession I own (other than my bed and desk) will fit in my Jeep Cherokee in one load. It would need to be more lit up than you have it but I could so live in that cabin. Thanks for the videos, buddy. Very informative.

I am inspired! I live in a standard 4 bedroom house with my 2 kids and partner and work a 50 hour week to watch all my money just vanish on bills and "cost of living". Living in Australia I would probably look at building and converting a shed but I could so live this way being from the country originally. Thanks for sharing.

This reminds me so much of my small house. I started out with a 14X 20.....with a loft. I have since added three additional rooms. Each room was larger than the original part of the house. I REALLY regret adding the additions. I would give anything if I would have left it exactly as it was. I paid or it as it was being built and owe nothing.

I have a full size washer and dryer run off a small generator. You can also hand wash with a crank washer (plans in my book) and hang in the sun to dry.

This is a very cool idea. I am definitely all for small houses. I do plan on having more than $2,000 to spend on my home (hopefully!) and will invest in a larger home than yours, but by no means a large home. I enjoy the idea of a small cozy place to call home. I just wouldn't be willing to sacrifice being able to stand straight up in my own bedroom (I'm 6 foot)! Excellent video and home!

the cabin roof is almost 45 degrees and designed for the heavy snow loads we have in winter. Snow never builds up and melts off quickly on sunny winter days. Sun through windows also heats the place up in winter so less propane used. Windows are shaded by porch and overhang to reduce overheating in summer

Great video and information. I live very simply in a small unit, but my dream is to have a small cabin in the woods, preferably near a stream or a lake. You give me hope that I can achieve that dream. Here, the codes to build such a structure make it impossible to get a permit, or i should say expensive and very time consuming. Thank you for spending the time to share the information. From the amount of hits you have, your helping many people. Rock on

I have had 3 big people in the loft and no problems. You could build two cabin together and have a nice big bed room on the first floor. Yes you can have all the regular utilities if you want and I have running water, shower, and sink. I use a composting toilet because a septic system would cost over $5000,.

I have a free-flowing well, shower and sink. I run a washer and dryer off generator and clothes can dry in the sun. I have two tvs, laptop, game system, microwave and all the normal gadgets. Solar and wind power can run anything the grid can but I don't have the monthly bills.

Good idea, but let me add. I bought 6 lots or about half an acre in the woods off a dirt road. Beautiful little forest. Now what I didn't know I have to pay $10,000 impact fee before I can legally built a shed on the property. If a building has wheels on it and can be moved it is deamed temporary and now is legal. All property every where has laws, just because they don't in force them now doesn't mean they can't at any given time.

Homesteading is a lifestyle choice and requires some adjustment. when you stop working for the system you stop worrying about a lot of inconsequential things and focus on what is necessary and what make you happy. Simplifying your life is very freeing.

You have a good eye! When I built my cabin I was only going to do a half loft and I used 2x4s with a 2x6 bond beam. I changed my mind and went with a full loft for more room. In the plans I recommend full 2x6x14s for additional load in the loft and that is included in the cost estimate.

Smart man would rather hang out here talking with this guy than some rich dudes mansion any day.Happiness is a state of mind and as long as you enjoy life your doing it right! Sadly practical knowledge like this is being lost today on our youth. My grandfather had black water pipes around his house like gutters.Of the mourning he would pump water into them and the sun would heat the water even in cooler weather.Luke warm showers but still I suppose black 5 or 55 gallon buckets would do the same elevated. Its the practical things we should teach our children... For people who cant build or afraid of code etc these type houses can be bought at Home Depot under 5k and they will install.Even if you hire contractors to finish it to code for you its very possible to have a home land and all for 20k.You can only eat and sleep so good you have to ask yourself what you want out of life. Awesome videos! As a simple contractor I find this stuff amazing and could totally live in something like this would just have to build two ....one for my wife ;)

That's a good idea, I also thought about finding some land for cheap and building a little at a time when I have time. If all else fails , the land would just be another investment. My father once told me, God don't make no more land. With that in mind and the economy bouncing around I can either live on it in bad times or sell it when it becomes more valuable.
