Managed to run through the series now - and love that new intro BTW. Well, you have done some super nice work again and achieved a pretty good result...glad you could tweak the off-180 pegs. Overall that is a high desirable set-up, even if hard to achieve perfection but, your perseverance has paid off pretty well even if extra work... the pinch bolt end nut was nice.Pleasing in the end. (BTW - surgery was R hip - slowly mending and hope to resume some shop time eventually.)

Wondered if you might install small balls under your set screws? this would let your Tube slide better,of course you would probably have to make a new nut with this incorparated into the set screw holes.Just an idea! This whole setup reminds me of the Hardinge Lathe Collect setup! Enjoy your Videos,Hope you don't have any Fire problems in your area,been watching the weather in your area.Hope your Wife is feeling Better,keeping you guys in Prayers!

If you lengthen the rod where the lever pivots, the nut won't hit the arm. It looks like there is plenty of room in the open position to do that.

I think you have enough adjustment and meat to re-cut the dogs on that sleeve and get everything running true. It would be less finicky then.
@DSCKy

What if you had put a bush under the 4 adjusting set screws (if there is room) that had a nice sliding fit to the tube. Then you could adjust the bush to center and have it pretty snug and it would stay in adjustment when you install/remove the tube?
@StuHarris60
@StuHarris60 7 лет назад
Great job completed, I wonder if you had considered brass ended grub screws for centering the tube like a tiny steady?

Why not make the pivot arm 1/4" or so longer? wouldn't that give more clearance to the end nut?

Randy, thank you for taking us through very very successful repair. It was fun listening to your thoughts on the analysis and design steps. Also, great new introduction and logo. One question: who is the manufacture of the spade drill with the carbide insert? Looks like it is very efficient at removing material. Regards, Paul

Why not put some balls under your set screws so it could still move in and out but be fairly tight.

Hey Randy, heard about you from the machinist grapevine and thought I would stop in and say Hi. I really like your content and subscribed and belled your channel. I seen that you subed me also and I really appreciate the support. I don't claim to be some machinist guru just a student of the trade learning something new every day:-) I look forward to going over your videos, looks like you have some nice kit to work with. Thanks again; Steve Summers

Randy Richard In The Shop Hi Randy, really cool new intro titles etc. This was a great journey, enjoyed it immensely. Not too sure about the end credits music, kind of 70's retro, but then again that's ok. Keep the gems coming young man, I learn so much from your channel. Kindest regards. Joe.

This is probably too late, but if you want the control lever to stop hitting the lock nut, you should make that rear link longer. When the control lever is in the collet open position, the control lever is already biased left. That link in the back should be lengthened so that the control lever is neutral or slightly biased right. Then when you put the lever in the collet closed position, the lever doesn't go to such an extreme angle WRT the tube and locknut. How do the two jaws pull on the collet when they cam over and open up?
@shanek6582
@shanek6582 7 лет назад
I know that the tube that's threaded into the collet has to pull on the collet to tighten the collet up, I just can't see that tube move when the jaws cam open? Thanks, sorry for being a pain in the butt.
