Though this isn't a trailer, if you watch trailers from the early and mid 70s, like West World, and others, they really did show all the key plot points.
I love this movie and before Braveheart came out it was my highest favourite, now it falls to 2, but I don't see any cheese, it's pure greatness in acting, fun, score, and since ILM was not even created yet, special effects were top notch for its era, especially the flair on the guns.
Doesn’t she have a nude scene in the ice cave? I thought she did, but i’ve only seen the edited version for so long. If she does, it will be enough for me to buy the blue-ray dvd.
@@sci-figuy6668 Yes, she does in the ice cave. I saw it in its 70mm Todd-AO glory back in 1976. In an later interview they asked her about her male fan club and she called it "adolescent fantasy rubbish". You will notice throughout the movie she switches from nothing, to flesh hose to green hose. A funny scene is when her and Logan fall out of the water tank onto the elevator, Jenny has a brief moment of modesty.
Farrah Fawcett and I shared a great grandmother, so we were fourth cousins. It was a thrill to see her in this, as I believe it was the first time I saw her in a feature film. (She had been on commercials, TV, and a few TV Movies by this time, but no actual feature films in the cinema). What a thrill! And she looked spectacular. Kudos to the casting, wardrobe and makeup people, as really everyone looked great on camera. All good wishes!
This movie is important, as it was the last big sci-fi movie to depict what i call a "shiny, happy future." In contrast, when Alien came out in '79, the future was gritty, industrial, and workaday.
@@annother3350 Thank you. Yes, you're right about that. I should have clarified that I was talking about the aesthetic. How the world and the people look. Nice and clean and shiny-happy. But you're right, that death-at-30 thing would be a huge other-than, wouldn't it? "Other than dying at 30, this is a great place to live."
It was also a movie genre of the 70's: mardi gras Sci Fi. The 70's had that and vampire porn in the mainstream. Then for some reason neither came back to the mainstream ever. Maybe they went underground to VHS. I watched this movie on TV last week: it was on Australian free to air TV.
This promo was created for theater exhibitors, and wouldn’t have been shown in theaters to patrons. Hence the music is from MGM’s Ice Station Zebra...as Jerry Goldsmith’s score wasn’t finished yet.
I always love these "industrial" previews as they were put together long before the film itself is actually finished. The music is anything stock that fits and whole scenes are often deleted or re-shot.
Thing that half the commenters did not read before screeching in unison about "giving away the plot" and "spoilers": The intended audience was theater owners and industry professionals. The goal was to convey the plot of the film in a condensed format. Since it was not intended to be seen by paying audiences, it includes a number of what would now be considered "spoilers."
Super full-body job on sinking the pink, Greathall75. And special thanks to VirtualVikki for transporting this rare print into capable hands for restoration; as I've been waiting for something just like this to transpire. Thank-you, Greathall75!
Yeah, Star Wars' production feels lightyears ahead of Logan's Run. For example, a robot design like Box would have never been accepted on Lucas' production. And those guns! The look like they took them from a Doctor Who set at the time.
@@undeadnightorc A main or key character like that would not have cut it, but if you look at closely at some of the background characters in Star Wars, there's some that are pretty wonky looking.
The quality of Star Wars compared to Logans Run has nothing to do with the fact the movies are only 12 months apart. It's more to do with the genius of George Lucas at the time. (regarding Sci-fi) There were other genius directors such as Kubrick - with 2001. Spielberg was to follow a few years with his classics Ridley Scott would have been prepping for the superlative Alien around the time Logans Run was released. The Masterful Blade Runner was only 6 years after this. Sci-fi masterpieces are not only way ahead of their time but *also* stand the test of time. The rule is not necessarily movies get better as the years increase. Logans run would always be inferior even if it was released say, two years - after Star Wars is what I'm saying.
Impresionante!!!
I saw this movie 1977 in a London movie i was 11 or 12 with my parents, i'am not sure but in surround sound because my goosebumps on my head and i look around, it is was so wooooow, Farraw Facett, i think my first movie love....and last but not least , peter ustinov, so lovely, i neveer forget this .
I saw this about 2 months before Star Wars on TV ....as a kid...it was very powerful and a possible real scary future . Only Roots had a larger viewing audience that year
It's impossible on multiple levels. Every premise in it is flawed. Part of it was derived from the same "thought" that led to The Population Bomb (Paul Ehrlich), completely debunked before 1980, much less the year 2000 or the present.
This is one film I’d like to see remade So many wonderful moments (and some that could be upgraded), a tremendous love story, the fleeing through the underground of the city and the stunning outside world Couldn’t fill the shoes of the incomparable beauty of Jenny Agutter mind you and Peter Ustinov
@@darronboden9975 I saw that film and it’s wasn’t a remake, although I think they call such things, reimagining - they didn’t have the rights and it was a pretty terrible film with similar ideas Lots of films have toyed with some if it’s premises - the more I think on it,mi don’t want it remade 😱
Warner's currently holds the rights to Logan's Run. It's been through so many development attempts over the years. The last one was in 2018 by someone from The Hunger Games. Before that it was someone from X-Men. And so on...and so on. The only studio that has the right attitude right now is Marvel. Jennifer Lawrence as Jessica 6. Logan could be played by 20 different interchangeable male leads. Because no one will go to see Logan now. They will go to see Jessica.
The original "Rollerball" film was a classic sadly forgotten about. It portrayed a world run by large Global corporations, Mmm, maybe too close to the truth, could this be why it has been buried?
Love how these old sci fi shows always had girls of the future wearing really short skirts. Original Star Trek was the same. And my particular favourite, UFO. Ayshea Brough and Gabrielle Drake in tiny silver dresses and purple wigs. Unfortunately it seems like girls of the future will actually look like men.
I think it's because the sexual revolution of the late 60s was still fresh in memory. I think in the 70s they probably thought women in the future would feel even more comfortable with nudity and their sexuality. But nowadays it has actually gone backward. People are less free than we used to be. Some SJWs / 3rd wave feminists these days even promote the 'right' for muslim women to wear a burqa or Niqab, instead of trying to free them from it. That says it all I think.
First movie based on a fictional 80s mall. Partially 80s modern and the underworld of the post 90s abandoned mall. It’s amazing how much these scenes look like the malls that came out in the early 70s.
Because many scenes were filmed (interspersed with state of the art miniatures and traditional sets on the MGM lot in Hollywood) in malls ,office buildings, healthclubs and restaurants in mid 70s Dallas and Houston Texas.
I wonder if I would've thanked Logan and Jessica for "freeing" me from a life of utter luxury, ease, and pleasure for a life of pain and constant struggle for survival.
..living a life of free food, cosmetic surgery, casual sex, both gay and straight, shopping all day and night, no money, free drugs and to die at 31 sounds ok. Who wants to live past 30 anyway, its a downhill road. Grumpy 66 year old.
@@cledwynstafford4819 Yeah, which is why I wonder if I would have thanked them for taking all that away from me in the name of freedom. I like my creature comforts; the more the better. The term "hedonist" has been tossed at me a time or two. LOL
Read the book, saw the movie and lived them both! One of my all time favorites. The DS pistol is next coolest thing to a lightsaber. Got those two on you and you'll never be bullied again, that's for sure. I remember the t.v. show too with Gregory Harrison. Not as good but still a classic. Strange how science fiction has a way of becoming science fact. I hope this isn't the way of the future! Unfortunately, it very well may be. A.I. is a frightening thing and it's becoming more and more prevalent every day. A great story though. 'The life clocks have no power outside the city. We're free'. Probably because WiFi still hasn't been perfected yet - 300 years on!
Ok, so the 23rd Century in San Francisco is Star Fleet head quarters, while Washington DC is in ruins. That works, except how come Kirk never mentions the domed areas?
@Michael Murphy ... Well-put, Michael. I saw the film in-theatre, I was 25 at the time. My stoner friends and I got properly tuned up to see it, and we thought it was terrific. I'd been to the 1964 World's Fair in Flushing Meadow, NY when I was 13, and I'd been on one of the biggest ride-through "Future World" attractions there (it was in the Ford Motor Co. pavillion). This ride took me through an amazing forced-perspective series of miniature cities, which resonated perfectly with the film's travelling shots of the extensive miniatures they used.
@mark griffiths ... LOL, I saw *Ice Station Zebra* in full (by now) classic Cinerama 3:1 projection format, and the film was so bad, I just settled for getting off on the occasional stunning ultra-widescreen visuals. But as for the theme from *Ice Station Zebra,* it should have got an Oscar (c) for *MOST OVERPLAYED THEME DURING A FILM THAT SOMEHOW MANAGED NOT TO KILL THE AUDIENCE.* So, when it managed to sneak up and get me *again* for the shown *Logan's Run* trailer, a shudder of genuine fear swept through me ... "Good GRIEF, this thing is like 'The Blob'. It's got loose ... it's starting to show up *EVERYWHERE, AGGGGGHHHHH!!! ... .* [ SFX: Slurping/sucking ]
Which was better, the book or The movie ? Both! ;-) A science fiction version of the Plato’s Cave metaphor. Will humans succumb or succeed in our collective journey toward Sanctuary? Both! ;-)
This preview gave the whole story away. Did they show this in the cinema at the time before it's release? If you'd never seen the movie and first watched this preview, you already know the whole story. Now that's what I call a spoiler :D EDIT: Ah, I understand reading the comments that this was not a regular trailer, but was meant to represent the whole movie as much as possible in a few minutes. In that case they did a good job! :)
Some of Farrah's lines were cut out of the theatrical release. Here is a reconstruction of her complete scene in the New You: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JbKLkzvXxtE.html
Boy, they really spoiled the ending, didn't they? And where are the bits of cut material? I did not notice anything new, other than the scene where Francis "retires" the runner.
the neon love sign with the obvious vag hit the cutting room floor with no panties lol and a few shots of the models which were not in the film that's all i got. damned panties!
I love this film. With the exception of one scene, Logan's Run is a great story. That scene is the hologram interrogation of Logan by the computer (How can the "There is no sanctuary" logic cause the computer to malfunction?).
Because the dome cities were Sanctuary. The people that ran, were going nowhere, even before the system broke down. It was self-sustaining for the first 100 years, but then the people in charge got complacent. The Sandmen were supposed to be the government, but they got lazy, and soon you got Logan's run. The people didn't realize that they had become cannibals, and that the system no longer functioned as designed.
You guys I saw this in the theatre, during a tornado warning in Cheyenne, Wyoming, it was understaffed there for obvious reasons; so I could get away with sitting through it a couple of times. Whereas the futuristic aspect was really something back then, perhaps on par w/ Space 1999, the whole notion of confused computer=entire city pitches over into ceaseless explosions left me credulous at best, second time seeing it it was hard eye-rolls time! Just because the municipal control system got confused or confounded doesn’t mean everything goes kabluwey, that’s just bad writing even a 9 y/o could see right through
I really liked this movie when I was a kid. Of course, it was a metaphor for those aging Boomers who were told to never trust anyone over 30. Jenny was awesome
Closer to the truth than we think. How many senior citizens have been quietly bumped off over the years, especially during Covid-19? Hmmmm🤔 Angels of Mercy are the Sandmen of today.
