I’ve seen this match several times and it hypes me up every time seeing zain win against a two time national champ in an arena filled with a roaring crowd!
@@paulh.7598 ??? How were the "biased?" That's nonsense. They were praising Retherford and talking about an upset...which it objectively was(as Stieber proved later that year). One of the biggest upsets in the regular season of College Wresting history.
@@scourge8097 Wow! Biased FOR Stieber, here is the evidence and watch again looking for the announcers' comments. This video is 15:15 in length and the first positive comment about Retherford comes at 5:04, so let's listen for the comments before then, shall we? In less than 4 seconds into the match, the announcers say, we talked about him in the open, Logan Stieber two time national champion and only a junior. :28 seconds in, this is certainly tough duty for a freshman. Retherford is 10-0 but has not met the top wrestlers in weight class. What a way to get introduced to the top echelon. At 1:11 What Stieber does so well is attack guy from the top position. After the takedown, announcers say, Stieber has to be the answer for Ohio State, at 1:35 great opportunity for Ohio State to get bonus points back. Stieber rides as well as anyone in the country and gets what he wants. At 2:23, What separates Logan Stieber is no cheap escapes, which was said just before Retherford ends up escaping, now match is 2-1 Stieber. Announcers go on when you talk about separation between the first ranked wrestler and the rest at the 141lb weight class there is a huge separation. Retherford is ranked #8 but we are going to see where he really belongs after this match. At 3:06, not too many people get to Stiebers legs. At 3:51, I wonder if Stieber regrets letting him out so easily [remember Stieber does not give up cheap escapes as if Stieber let Retherford escape]. At 4:28 What I like about Stieber is he is not afraid of anything; Stieber gets after it, goes after it, he is one of the best and not afraid of the challenge. At 4:53 announcers comparing Stieber to Dake with move up of weight class and they say Stieber moved up a weight class like Dake, great to see our NCAA champions to provide more entertainment for the sport because they are such wonders. Now at 5:04 for the first time in the match up till then, Retherford puts in legs and starts to ride Stieber and announcer says, look what Retherford is doing, I am STARTING to believe. Can you answer your own question now how they were biased for the first 5 minutes? I hope this helps not with nonsense but with evidence, watch again while you track comments above, yes they change their tune much later in the match when they realize their favorite wrestler who is so much better than all the wrestlers in his weight class loses not very long into sudden death when Retherford gets a take down on their wrestler who they said earlier 3:06 that not too many wrestlers can get to his legs.
One hell of a match, Im from Ohio and big Buckeyes fan but a bigger fan of the sport and love to see a good match like this... he deserves to br ranked #1 now..... I Watched him vs Iowa also and this win wasn't a fluke.... this kid is the real deal He likes to interlace the fingers with his outside hand when getting hand control during the tie, you don't see that everyday
MagicDr pico said fuck college wrestling thats too easy lets go for gold aaron pico is a monster crazy to think how young he is and the guys that he is dominating
steibers coaches are good at complaining and giving him 5 minutes to rest after Zain EASILY road him out. steiber would have 100% been more fatigued than Zain was after the 2nd
I think the Ohio state coach just wanted to give His wrestler some rest after being rode like a dog, knowing full well a challenge was going to resolve nothing
Something I never noticed in this video before was the announcer saying this match was a great opportunity for Ohio State to score some bonus points. LOL
That first stalling call was bogus. That ref shouldn't even been doing grade school wrestling matches. Literally attack and attack and gets hit with a stalling call?? That's a joke
I think this challenge was a brilliant piece of gamesmanship and Retherford's failure to simply stand there during the review is a symptom of its success.
Logan Steiber: the worst of the 4 timers. Steiber LOST to Jordan Oliver and still somehow "won" the title, plus Ramos pinned him in another title bout.
Damn...I think that refs having mental issues, calling the Zain Train for STALLING, right after that tie-up between these 2 is insane. Course the potentially dangerous call wasn't potentially dangerous, unless you were worried about Zain getting stuck, because he was ABOUT to be put on his back!! That would HAVE to be the strangest site...seeing Zain Retherford, being on his back. I have to say, he's probably the most Dominant of ALL those great PSU Wrestlers during that time. I mean...him, Nolf, Ruth, Nickal...how do you RANK those studs...
odd????? Wheres the beef? Conspicuously missing on YT is the Natty consultation for that yr that weight not to mention Stieber vs Tony Ramos at Carver Hawk eye....Rutherford/Stieber 2.....Where oh where has the video gone, oh where oh where could it be? Lets ask Neo or Morpheus.
@@natestakely1478 Yeah, he ONLY won 3 titles and took a 5th as a true Freshmen. Retherford-Wrestled as a True Freshmen, 2X Hodge winner Stieber-4X Champ, 1 Hodge...1 gifted title in 2012 when Oliver should have had a TD.
@@natestakely1478 PSU has on it's team right now a Wrestler who's going for his 2nd, one who's going for their 3rd, one going for the 4th and one going for their 5th while their HWT is ranked #1 as a Soph and they've got a LOADED recruiting class coming in. OSU's super-class better not Chris Phillips the bed again.
I noticed big time. My friends son is Aaron Pico's friend and I remember their first couple of matches. I think he was shocked at how good Pico was. Then he closed the gap like nobody's business. He's a handful now for anybody.
4:51 if they quad pod and you can't get legs in 4:56 cross legs and power half if they stand 1 leg up 5:12 put both legs in when you have a clear oppurtunity 5:32 body F4 and power half 6:54 putting legs in while they're in quad pod
Yes he was sick, my comment states that he was taken off an I.V before this match. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he go on two win his 4 NCAA national championship. The 4th ever in history?
Is he somehow exempt? I thought the NCAA athletes were tested across all sports. He's stronger than other kids, that was the statement before he got to college. Danny Hodge was, too - sometimes it happens. Doesn't mean he'll stay clean his whole career if he gets far internationally - I can't imagine international freestyle is anything remotely close to clean.
they aren't tested often but somebody like a dake or steiber 100% would think or be doping compared to other wrestlers, dake wasn't a nice person by ANY MEANS and they know the whole country is waiting to give them one of their first losses. andeley probably barely follows sports, let alone ncaa wrestling
