I think Logic needs to rap on grimy, old skool beats. On his previous mixtapes he always sounded dope asf on those type of beats. There's nothing wrong with the beats he's using now, mather of fact, the beats he uses now are fucking amazing. Fade away, Intermission, I am the Greatest, Stainless, were all amazing instrumentals. But I prefer Logic on grimy ass beats, like on Gang Related. Imagine an album like The Infamous by Mobb Deep with Logic rapping on those beats. What do you think he is missing?
FINALLY!!! I been bumping this album for the past 3 weeks lol. There's just so much replay value on this album. I'd say it's a 8/10. Outside of the Drake-ish "I am the greatest" & the 1st half of "city of stars", I liked every song on this album. The production on this album is flawless too. And yea, this isn't a classic, but it's still very dope. I can't wait until Logic makes his classic album because it's obvious he has it in him.
I don't see why Myke thought Logic fans would get mad about this album not being "it". I think it's really encouraging for fans of Logic and Logic in general. He's saying that Logic has so much more potential in his work and he hasn't reached it yet. He's released incredible projects and this isn't his best yet. I agree with what Myke had to say
+snuzul Because people get mad at everything I said that isn't "this is the best album I've ever heard ever." Haha. But it's all good. Thanks for watching, man!
+Myke C-Town I always like watching your reviews most because I've always thought that you've had the most introspective things to say about a project. But yeah, love watching your guys' reviews. Some of my favorite videos on the Internet. Please keep doing you
Reviews I'd like to see Evermore the art of duality - The underachievers Late Knight Special - Kirk Knight Deeply rooted - Scarface Wave[s] - Mick Jenkins Marauding in paradise - Jazz Cartier Preachers son - TUT
In an interview he said that he remixed it. He just kinda redid the beat and was gonna release it on soundcloud but it was too good to do that so he just out it on the album
Luccas Reis I know I've been watched the interview and know all about the backyard freestyle. I was just saying even though it was so reminiscent of backyard I loved it.
i share the exact same opinion as myke, solid album but he's still not capitilizing on his strenghts to bring us the masterpiece he so wants to put out
I bought the physical copy and it was amazing. I loved Contact, Fade Away, Like Woah, I Am The Greatest, Young Jesus, Never Been, Run it and The Incredible True Story.
I feel myke though even though I liked this album I know when he finds himself, and really starts to go against the mold he's going to make something amazing.
You guys put me on Logic back in 2011 when he dropped the YS2 mixtape. I'm with Myke 100%. I enjoyed it but I felt the same way that I can't express in words. I feel like he's on the verge of a release that's incredible and unique that sets itself apart. An album that solidifies his career as an MC like Kendrick had from GKMC or Kanye with Graduation.
I love their analysis and reviews, no wonder they got third for reviews and mike got honorable mention. They go deeper than good or bad album, trying to talk about potential and earlier work comparisons.
+Myke C-Town - the reason he used Steve Blum (the voice of Quintin Thomas) is because he's very well known in the anime world. I can't remember what video exactly it but I remember Logic saying in an interview how he wanted to show a little bit more of himself, including his taste for anime.
Damn just by scanning through the comments, it seems like most of you thought this was only an average album, or even worse a few of you thought this was a terrible album. I feel like I'm one of the only ones that doesn't have much to complain about with this album. It's pretty great. Super high replay value and just overall very chill. Sorry that a lot of you hate it :( Great review though guys!
Vincent Vera It's the Kendrick stans who think just because he sampled the drum bass from sing about me which Kendrick didn't produce either that drum bass is originally from Bill Withers they use this false crap to shit on Logic
Myke sounds like that close friend everyone needs, who is not just going to tell you what you want to hear when you show him something you've done, like a yes man friend, but he's going to offer constructive criticism and ways to better yourself and tell you how he is really feeling like he did here.
Logics albums to me seems like an authentic documentary of his generations music, like if you wanted to know what the best of this generations music contained, what the style and cadence was...the sonics that they used and how they could all be blended together.......Logic would be the perfect person to telll that story with his music.......However.... and it feels so good to have it put in to words by someone, Logic feels like an exceptional student, he has studied and understands the theories of his peers, how they work and were constructed and can see the advantages and disadvantages in all of them....but yet he has not developed his own theory based on all of this knowledge...I think this is the feeling alot of us are getting with him, Hes put out great work but were still waiting to hear the finished "him" and that i feel is when he will drop the classic that many of us feel he can
Holy shit Mike sometimes you say something and I just think oh my god this guy takes the exact way I feel about an artist and then articulates it in the way I've always wanted to. I also believe Logic is great but there is something missing that he needs to find to just drop that album that blows everyone away
imo when i first saw myke, i thought he was those types to fav unknown rappers to be "different" but he arguably the best with a opinion thus far. respect! bump in da whip!
I feel Myke 100%. I'm a huge Logic fan and I love this project for sure. But I feel like he hasn't found his exact sound or style yet. You can hear the experimentation throughout these last two projects. But I tell you what, when this dude gets his shit down... It's a wrap.
good review, i 100% agree. if i have one suggestion for dehh its to maybe mention more individual tracks in the reviews! yall do a great job critiquing the full body but never really break it down to the songs. not a complaint tho, keep up the great work!
I agree with all of you. I've listend to numerous logic interviews in the last month and he is a great, humble and talented dude. He is totally different than the rapper stereotype, he has an old and wise soul. I'm a hard core music (all), but big hip hop head and I think he definitely has a classic in his future. SALUTE. D.E.H.H..
Great video. I completely agree with Myke. I'm loving everything Logic is doing right now and I love this project but it feels like he's got more in him. There's a classic in him somewhere. He'd probably benefit from taking a year or two off from dropping anything, considering he's released a mixtape or album for something crazy like 6 years in a row. That would give him time to really sit down and craft an album that's as good as it can possibly be. I'm not saying he doesn't give max effort, because it's clear that he does, I'm just saying a few years between projects could potentially go a long way towards making that masterpiece we know is within him.
ya forgot to mention the fact that Logic made an album about fucking sci fy and space and futuristic shit and still sold more than most rappers trying to stay with the mainstream flow and rapping about bitches drugs and money and instead talking about his life story, peace love and positivity, being kind to others and talking about how he feels he is better than most because he can sell music by being humble and honest
That's crazy. I was thinking the same thing. I feel like logic says more personal things in his interviews than in his music. In terms that I can actually grasp it when I first listen to him. Logic got a story for real! Firstly him being biracial, his parents going through things, siblings, him too. It's just he got to tell people this straight up in his rhymes. No little blimps...Cuz he went through! And his life story can help so many people. Also what u guys said about his voice...I also feel he can take it to the next level. He up there but he can be great! Same with his story telling. He just got to tell people about what Logic went through and what logic truly thinks. People wanna relate to his way of seeing things. He just got to paint the whole picture. and every time I hear him rap I can see clearer. He gone get there
Also on the biracial thing him being that race is a very big topic he can talk on. What he saw, how he's treated. what he sees in both perspectives maybe. idk. u can't critique someone's masterful art tho. Logic gone only get better
mike hit the nail on the head! I feel his frustration, there's a nagging feeling whenever I listen to him like waiting for something greater everytime.
Logic is by far my favorite rapper, I've heard every project from him, and LOVE all of them, except The Incredible True Story. I feel like the concept on Under Pressure was more cohesive and better thought out than this album. Overall, I think this is a good album, but I don't think it is as good as his other work.
+Jason Crownover I agree. This just felt like a huge science-fiction blockbuster without a plot, or any real meaningful. Wasn't feeling it all. I was disappointed considering Under Pressure was a masterpiece.
+Suburamo15 Logic is mixed, and I am white. So what is your point, dumbass? There are MCs better than Logic because they are better lyricists, not because he is part white and they are full-black. Race doesn't mean shit, except to people like you that bring it up for no god damn reason.
I feel like Under Pressure was Logic getting into his story and his life, whereas this project was more of finding his sound (for lack of a better term) if that makes sense. Like on Under Pressure the beats were good, and somewhat grimy and dark at times, but the lyricism and the story behind it is what made Under Pressure so great to listen to. Mostly because a lot of us either understood what he went through or related what he went through. With The Incredible True Story it seemed the production was miles ahead of Under Pressure, but Logic wasn't talking about very much. I feel this album was more designed to find his sound as in find what he really enjoys to rap over as well as bringing in different style beats that not a lot of people are used to when listening to Logic. We all know Logic can rap his ass off, but I believe that when he actually combines his song writing ability, his lyricism, his new found production skills, and also something that will speak volumes outside of hip hop (Example: Kendrick's TPAB, you didn't have to like but the messages were very real and needed, hence why its a generational album) Once Logic is able to get an album and combine all of those things is when he creates his Masterpiece.
I totally agree with Myke about the masterpiece on the way theory. I get the same feeling from him, he drops great projects but his potential is huge, and his 3rd / 4th project could be masterpieces.
+Hopeton Smith (Jr_Smyth98) I don't hate the review I just thought this was kinda one of their less enthusiastic ones. I wanted to hear their opinion about the drake and 2pac line. I was hoping myke would touch on the fact logic copied 808 and heartbreak on The intro and city of stars. I just wanted more out of the review. no shade though.
For me he is kinda like the clippers.really good ,lot of talent, still not found their/his identity.and when its coming to a championship others are better(cole, kendrick).but he got the potential for it like mike said ... he just need to find that something
Album is dope but I agree with Myke, i feel like Logic has THAT ALBUM in him where its timeless and perfection. And Under Pressure, Incredible True Story both have songs and moments of it. Soul Food, Gang Related, Till the End, Under Pressure, Young Jesus, Innermission, Paradise, Run It, etc. If he did a WHOLE ALBUM like those, it would give you the "Logic Logic" so to speak. Thats, IMO, the album he needs to make and can. That is Logic.
yo this album was the shit. I loved the scifi aspect. I loved the production. loved the general ideas behind it. Loved logic's flows/messages. Very good album imo
Like always, good review, DEHH. I agree with most of the things said in this video; Logic hasn't reached his full potential yet. This project was definitely a step up compared to his previous project and I feel like he'll eventually set himself apart from other rapper's style, flow, and make a brand for himself. Regardless, fantastic album from Logic, keep it up.
The only song on this album i didnt care for was the song: I Am The Greatest and it is not because of the beat it is because of what Logic did on that song
Under pressure is still better though. Dont get me wrong this is a well put album with great lyricism and fantastic production but under pressure had way more substance and the story was painted so well. I feel like logic on this album talked about the same things he did on his last project and others as well but covered it up by making this a concept album about outer space to kind of make you think different about it. idk i think tits has way more potential but to each their own. Fav tracks : young jesus, like woah, fade away, stainless, paradise, city of stars
I know a lot of people love Under Pressure, but I honestly thought that album was pretty good nothing better, but I was disappointed cuz I got hyped af 4 that project specifically, I heard people saying that this album was the best project Logic has ever released but I just give it an 7.8/10. But this album! Whoooo!!! This is the album I needed after the disappointment that I had after Under Pressure, the story is fucking genius, the script is played perfectly and the tracks are just great! Personal favorites: Fade Away Like Woah Young Jesus (ft. Big Lenbo) Innermission (ft. Lucy Rose) I Am The Greatest Lord Willin’ City Of Stars (BEST) Stainless (ft. Dria) Paradise (ft. Jessie Boykins II) 9/10 album!
In fact, I think Andy Mineo sounded like Logic on his last project. The thing is that Logic doesn't restrain himself to one style. But I agree that sometimes he sounds like Drake, Kendrick,... You can see they influence him. I still think that he has the best flow over all rappers even if he's not my favorite, but he lacks originality and, most of the time, I don't like when he sings. Still, it's a fucking great album and I would recommend it to anybody.
I think they're right to with "he's got this album that is going to blow people away, but this ain't it" I agree, he is looking to be in the top two most promising rappers to come out of this era. Maybe it's the next album maybe 3 from now. But I'll be impatiently waiting lol
Beezy I got you... Worst Behavior: Mo'fucka never luh'd us... remember? I Am the Greatest: Motherfuckas get no love... nope! Yea that song was 100% Drake inspired. And before I get flamed, the man acknowledged it himself in I think his interview with Ebro in the morning. I'm a Logic fan btw
I feel like logic made the album AND THEN threw the concept skits on. I loved the idea, but he didn't pull through in my opinion. I saw the trailer and was expecting a concept album, I instead got a lot of really well produced tracks that would be better without these skits. Logic, if you're reading this, do a collab EP with Lenbo and kill some fuckin New York esque beats. It's what we need fam
the skits were dope tho because it cleans the pallet for the next song. then there were some deep shit in some of the skits. Steve Blum one of the voice actors dope he's the guy who did the voices for the main characters in cowboybebop n samurai champloo
I agree with Myke. Logic hasn’t released his classic album yet, he has mad potential to be on a higher level with his lyrical prowess. He is special though
