took until the mentally ill man to be systematically drugged as part of a plan to milk him of his wealth and brand and getting permanent brain damage in the middle of it for it to happen
The 9:18 when Melon actually related to a Logic song and was able to self insert his love for music reviewing and how reviewing while still loved is just different than it was when he was in his 20s. Never thought I’d see the day
good catch i can see it striking a chord with melon maybe even a tear forming there😂glad he was able to resonate with a logic song never thought i’d see the day too CRAZY
It’s a simple concept but I felt the whole “teleport” aspect of Teleport was really well done and I haven’t heard someone do that on a reflective track like that.
@hejhejaske Logic signed a deal with the devil that makes him drop 4 trash projects for every 1 great Album he makes, but Logic has at least 4 or 5 good projects he deserves respect
@Radioface7779 Logic actually has quite a few good albums. His only actually bad projects are Supermarket, COADM, and BT3. Everything else is either really/pretty good (Under Pressure, TITS, No Pressure, Vinyl Days, the YS tapes), or sitting right around average (Everybody, College Park, YSIV)
I love how interested Fantano is in this album, beyond the music itself. The story behind the story is explained so well by him here. It feels like he went beyond his regular style and let his love for reviewing music and artists shine in a way I don't often see quite like this. More so than regularly for an 8/10. It's like a teacher who had an issue with a problem child all year, just to get to the graduation and finally being able to tell the school why this child was always worth giving attention to.
I think because Fantano straight up knows Logic personally at this point, he REALLY wants to see him succeed It's like how Fantano was watching Kendrick from OD and seeing his journey to Mr. Morale Which is so funny in retrospect because he didn't pull ANY punches on those late 2010s albums LOL
When that happens irl, it's because the problem child's dad threatened to sue the school and kill the teachers and principal, who were like, "If we pass him for 2 more years, they'll be gone from our lives forever. Let's just do this." However, here, this seems more like the movies, where there are good guys and bad guys, and it's clear which is which, and it tells of a hero's journey to the underworld and back.
I feel like this is Logic’s version of Mr. Morale. He’s always been an insightful person. I like that explored new ideas in his music. Whether it was good or meh he still being himself. I’ve grown out of my Logic phase mostly but this album I would say brought me back a ways. Good listen and yeah solid 8.
I like the thought that in an alternate universe there is an alternate melon who said “who’s the best? Is it Jay? 2Pac? Kendrick?- my eyes glaze over with boredom just thinking of that conversation” as he reviews the latest blockbuster movie.
I remember hearing College Park for the first time and shit stopped me right in my tracks, was so good. Couldn't believe it was Logic, I forgot about him after his 2018 suicide hotline song, was kinda still hanging on to his early mixtapes up till that point but officially stopped caring for his "potential" after that release. If you'd have told me back then that in 2020, Logic would go an insane run of releases that was so full of bangers that I'd be back listening full time I woulda never believed it.
@@itzAsianFool It's also because hes in a much better place mentally actually going to therapy, he mentioned how previously while he was still creating records before getting out of his record deal he was in a very bad place constantly touring during his mainstream era for all that money and craving validation from everyone in Rap that it probably affected his potential and we saw that on his previous albums. He said it on this album its the most free he's ever been in his career and it definitely reflects that in the quality of his music and raps as a fan of his since like 2015
Also shoutout Sam Spratt. Totally agree that this was Bobby's best album in years and love that it was made solely for the fans. But imo the album artwork is 10/10 and by far some of Sam's best work to date. The simplicity and the color palette is incredible and i'd say of all the album covers he's done for Logic, it's the least pretentious. Instead of kind of throwing it in your face and telling you how you're supposed to feel and saying "This is what the theme of this record is" it allows you to kind of just take a look at it, appreciate it, and figure that part out for yourself.
@@BOAYang Nah I see what he means - A. Pretentious from the perspective of Logic's face always being present in his album covers. B. Pretentious in recreating Masterpieces like 'The Last Supper' for the album Everybody.
@@John-qt8kmI would imagine that's why rappers take his ratings personally seeing that he does have this much of an influence over people but acts like he doesn't.
@@deonnelson9780 im gonna assume it's because Lupe Fiasco is one of the most consistent and well respected hip hop artists of all time? Logic's prob saying "I'm as good as one of the most consistent legends" type beat
@@deonnelson9780 ("Lupe In 06") lupe Fiasco's food an liquor released in 2006 which is one of his best albums and (lupe last week) Lupe Fiasco released his album Samurai in july of 2024.
Even tho Logics buzz got a bit lower the past years, you see the views of this review are so much higher than the last uploads from Fantano. People saying Logic fell of from the numbers or the music is literally brainless and sad. The man is still relevant and I love the message of this new album.
Very crazy but I usually don’t agree with a lot of his scores and these are all deserving. Personally I’d give jpeg a 9 cause I usually don’t like his music but got damn what an album
I'm glad to see logic getting some love. it's easy to forget but logic really was running the game to an extent back in the late 2010's. His music was uber popular and he was, by many, seen as a darling of the A list rap world. His original tapes and first couple of albums are still incredibly strong to this day.
The same man who made Supermarket now officially got yellow flannel from the critic he used to hate the most. Logic and his fans are definitely crying in happiness rn and I appreciate it.
Paul Rodriguez is probably the best opening track of the year. Glad Logic finally realized that he's much better at being a Lupe than being a Kendrick.
@@delsix1222 Oh no shot yeah ofc. (For the record though, he made the Lupe comparison himself: "Aye check is this that Lupe in 06") It's a comparison not for biting flows but for where he decided to take his rapping. He didn't need to be a savior of hiphop like Kendrick, he just needed to rap about himself and spit hot bars like Lupe.
Great review of a really great project. One thing to note music wise, Deja Vu was for long time fans. It’s an alternate version of the Fade Away beat, a more uplifting iteration. He includes bars incorporating the old song title and even ends with a direct reference to it. As someone who was a long time fan all the way back in the datpiff mixtape era, but fell off a bit during commercial run Logic, this song gave me chills. His whole progression from No Pressure through now makes me so damn happy for the guy. You hit the nail on the head when you said he finally made the album he’s been trying to make for years. Gorgeous production, the most introspective bars I’ve heard from him, and stellar showcasing of flows and deliveries. Fucking fantastic project. Worthy of the yellow flannel
I feel like the retirement did happen, but in a different way: he stopped being a musician for money (which much of his late-2010s music was) and is now making what he actually has a passion about. That shift definitely benefitted the music quality.
Thanks for putting me on this project Fantano. I genuinely loved the project and I wasn't even a large Logic fan. I hated the unalive hotline song due to radio oversaturation.
For me, Logic was matured a lot since "No Pressure", compare to Eminem, Eminem at this moment still blatantly re cycle his old idea especially with his Slim Shady, persona and sell it to his Stan.
@@manolakiosThat's the way every day goes... 🤷♂️ I don't even really comment on these videos, I just saw an opportunity with a positive logic review and took it
Dude, I was fully set on ignoring this new logic album drop and this review made me heavily reconsider, I loved his music, beats, and the topics he covered especially from No Pressure, but I always felt like he was always surface level with what he talked about, your review made me really excited to listen to his new album. Ty so much
Do it. You will REALLY enjoy this one and honestly it was WORTH the wait. Took 10 YEARS but it was worth the wait good sir. Hope you enjoy it! Love and respect!
A few observational notes: 18:00 Im surprised that City In the Stars was listed as least favorite. In my opinion, Logic has a good ear for talent and the feature was incredible. Logic sounded fresh as hell on this mellow spacey classy glossy beat, the content nicely wrapped up Logics perspective on his come up and where he is now which is a common theme in the album but it goes over nice here. One of my personal favorites. Im also surprised Peace Love & Positivity didn’t get any talk. A big theme of Logic’s career (sometimes unintentionally) is his battle with identity. This song to me reminds me of a b-side from TPAB (yes i said it). The glossy beat reminds me of These Walls with the lyrical content of Complexion off the same album. Definitely inspired but not a cheap imitation like some cuts off his earlier stuff. Peace Love & Positivity is a cut that definitely belonged to Everybody but im glad it showed up on this album because Ultra 85 is definitely a “coming of age” album for logic. This song is pretty compelling to me. Another note, antidote and 44ever are tied for my least favorite here however i didnt care for them much anyways because they didnt play into the theme of the album. I just brushed them off. I liked the hook on teleport, the joke got a little stale after the first listen but it was still fun. Skits were hard to sit through purely because of voice acting and the story progression didn’t do much for the Logic-verse. Still a light 9 for me because the real meat of the project was amazing.
City of stars was good but I think fantano didn’t like it mainly of the last verse when logic was spitting that dictionary rap which tbh we didn’t need
I feel like with logic, explaining the whole music as an escape revelation that he explains finally is the WHOLE POINT of Ultra 85. The point is to grow closer and closer to the listener with his previous albums, explaining his mindset and relating, and then finally letting the listener in on a secret: if you do what you love, you don't need drugs, alcohol, lust, any sort of temporary high to make your life fulfilling. You don't need to prove anything. He lived it and showed it: anxiety, depression, and any mental struggles we go through can be conquered if you stay true to yourself, are honest, stay close to your loved ones, and just find a healthy coping mechanism for life. Everyone goes through shit, so you can't just try to suppress it. Find something you love and practice it, hone that shit, work towards goals, and use alcohol or weed to ENHANCE your life, not escape from it.
Been a logic fan for 8-9 years Waited for ULTRA 85 since 2017 I was in 8th grade about 12-13 years old This is logics best album to date the anticipation for the album was incredible everything is perfect about this album To the average listener give this album a shot idc if you like, love, hate, or have never even heard of logic ever before you will enjoy this album
@@mequana Vinyl Days as Logic's BEST album? Over Under Pressure & The Incredible True Story? That's wild to me. Its good for sure, IMO Vinyl Days & Ultra 85 are at 5&4, No Pressure at 3, True Story at 2 & Under Pressure is still far and away 1 for me, Actually just went back to Under Pressure after listening to his past 3 albums and yeah, It still feels like his Magnum Opus to me.
Also don't forget "No Pressure", that album is a mark on how Logic embark his new adventure on his musical career. Especially on how bad, Supermarket and Confession Of Dangerous Mind really are.
Melon, this was a great review. but, you didn't have to cosplay Logic cosplaying as you wearing the Yellow Flannel. But seriously, what a long time coming to finally see Logic going 8+ score review club.
Unironically achieves what Mr. Morale tried to achieve in a more welcoming, coherent and likeable way. I genuinely can’t believe this is a good as it is. Logic was a rapper I have considered fine at best and incredibly cringe at worst but this is so good it has inspired me to check out his previous works to see was I missing something this whole time. Also, I don’t think I’ve heard a rap record with such empathy and warmth for its audience before. This is music as a talisman, something that will be returned to by people who need its message over and over again.
I really love how Fantano actually liked this album. He seemed to be excited talking about some of these tracks and it made me feel good, because I liked the album too. It's nice to see melon have fun reviewing again
@@noahleach7690 No Pressure, Vinyl Days, College Park, Ultra 85. 4 albums, very rarely do you see rappers drop 4 straight albums that are solid or better than
