Honestly I think Logic really succeeded in his overall goal for this album of appealing to his most hardcore fans. It’s a great throwback to his old tapes and if you enjoy those then you’ll probably enjoy this. It’s far from a groundbreaking philosophical journey of an album but it’s a nice listen if you like him

I actually really like Logic, and I enjoy pretty much everything I've heard from him. But I always feel like he misses the mark every time. Like he'll have a great concept, or an awesome guest list, or his flows will be insanely on point, but the whole package just comes up short for some reason. Its hard to say exactly why, but I never feel like his full potential is realized, but I'm really excited for the day he manages to pull an album together that does. It'll be epic, but we just haven't seen the level he should be capable of yet.

why is logic reviewing himself

I've been a fan of Logic's music since 2011 and in my opinion he's been going downhill since Incredible True Story. His first two albums were great but after that it just seems that he kinda stopped trying and the most recent projects haven't impressed me. oh yea, and as a huge fan of the old Young Sinatra tapes, this project was a massive disappointment. As much as Logic or some of his stans wants to believe that this project brought back that alter-ego, it didn't and that's just how it is. edit: i didn't expect this comment to gain as much traction as it did, so i'm going to respond to some points i've been seeing in the replies to this: 1) I've read some comments saying that "this project felt like his old mixtapes" but I can't agree with that at all. he isn't testing his lyrical ability like he did on the old tapes, like I said it sounds like he isn't even trying. He's been recycling bars, and SIMPLE bars at that; he is also only doing it over the most polished of boom-bap beats, which like Anthony said, is the opposite of what boom bap is meant to be, and I think even Logic is confused when fans say they wanted a Young Sinatra title again. the Young Sinatra tapes weren't PURELY boom-bap, there were trap records as well but even he was lyrical on those unlike the Bobby Tarantino projects. Young Sinatra had the raw and gritty feel when it came to boom bap and fun and energetic when it came to trap, but there was still a ton of effort to make the lyrics mean something. Honestly, this ENTIRE project felt like a compilation of songs that were cut from Everybody and that's just my opinion and I can't see that changing anytime soon. I like Bobby, and I enjoy his music, but this is definitely a low point in his career, music-wise. 2) Everybody was not his most ambitious project to date. Yes, he touched on political issues, but he has BEEN doing that. I said that he stopped trying in terms of doing anything new or testing himself. Everybody and YSIV felt like the same album. They had very similar sounds, sonically, and you can't deny that. I talked about this mostly in the first point, but he stopped trying with the story telling, with the way that he forced words to fit into certain lines, make certain things mean what he wants them to mean, etc. He is just writing basic bars to decent beats now. Nothing on this album really got my attention except for the Wu-Tang track and Iconic and the Wu-Tang track he only delivered on for like 40 seconds of an 8 MINUTE song. 3) People are telling me that my opinion is wrong, but that's incorrect. You can have your opinion, and I can have mine. We don't have to agree, that's what makes music beautiful. There is something for everybody, you can like something I don't like and vice-versa. Just enjoy what you have and live your life, stop letting the opinions of others get to your head. 4) This wasn't something I saw in the comments, but I feel like I should put it here before I forget. Logic forgot who the character of Young Sinatra was. He always used to talk about this alias as, in a shorter term, the "smooth and classy rhyme killer". He didn't bring that personality onto this track at all. Go listen to Young Sinatra III and tell me that this album feels the same as anything from this song. Even the title track, YSIV, didn't feel like a Young SInatra track and that's the whole purpose of a YS track. The best part of that song was after the switch-up, which honestly (like Anthony also said) should have been it's own song. Nothing about this project gave off Young Sinatra vibes. Y'all can hate me for that opinion, but that's how I feel and that's just how it is lmao

To Pimp a Butterfly had a black and white cover, and so does YSIV. To Pimp a Butterfly got a 10, so therefore.. YSIV got a 10. I can't believe melon gave YSIV a 10!

Not sure if y'all actually listened to Logics mixtapes because every single Young Sinatra track has used that Nas sample, not just the third one, so it would be weird not to use it on the final one.

I’d say this is your strongest Logic review ever. In most Logic reviews of yours, it feels like you really go more into the “Logic bites” aspect than into the music for large parts of it. This has a lot more about the music and your thoughts on the actual songs that he makes, and not how he sounds similar to another artist (I think some of your claims are shoddy about his biting (UP comes to mind), but others are true, he does have a variety of flows and loves to emulate his favorites). I saw the 5 and expected another review where you laugh at how he steals from artists and doesn’t show his personality, but I was pleasantly surprised. This was a solid review. Coming from a big logic fan, nice job. I hope he watches this review.

I'm gonna disagree with you on your point that Logic rapping "as money" should have been its own song. Doing that would have been a complete repeated idea as the song "Nikki" from Under Pressure. I think Logic recycled the idea enough and that it shouldn't have come up again in later projects like this. But Logic is SYNONYMOUS with recycling ideas. Logic Drinking Game: Listen to this man's discography and take a shot every time he says "hit you with a beretta". Dude recycles the same lines over and over again. Hasn't had a new idea since The Incredible True Story. What a shame, Under Pressure was one of the best debuts in history.

I kind of feel like this is evident of these types of artist getting famous at a young and it being good but detrimental to their art later on. A lot of the songs are lyrically something he's already talked at length about and are just being rehashed since logic hasn't had that many new experiences to rap about. Overall, I kind of feel like he has pigeonholed himself and any drastic shift will not only lose him a lot of fans but also a lot of credibility. Also he's biracial

You know, as a pretty decently big Logic fan. I'm going to have to agree with some of the points that he made. I think the opening track and last track are somewhat boring, didn't really care for them. Like it has no replay value those two songs unless you really just want to listen to Logic speak for 20 minutes or something. But, I think when Logic really shined on this record, he really did shine. YSIV the second verse with the perspective of Money creativity it was refreshing to see something new and not bit off of someone else. Street Dreams and his story telling ability, although not the GREATEST song lyrically it takes you on a ride and it's a solid track. Everybody Dies and The Return are just gold on this record, he really shows his ability to ride the beat REALLY well, the second verse on everybody dies where he does the common logic flow from his first mixtape was so good. I really think his biggest moment was on The Glorious Five where we saw what he was really feeling. It wasn't I'M BIRACIAL, I'M HALF BLACK I'M HALF WHITE. It's what his heritage really means to him, not just a surface level amount of fact. I think that's what impressed me the most. Songs like Iconic and 100 miles are good, Ordinary day and One day aren't great, but if that's for you hey, go for it. I think this album like I've said, when he shines he shines, and you can't overlook that. 7/10

Idk what you mean by logic being all positive? Only the album everybody talks about positive things as it's meant to be conscious hip hop. Most of his other works are either about his struggles in his past or braggadocio so he can show off his lyrical ability.

You have Legacy over YSIV? I agree with your rating, but as far as your favorite songs I’m a bit confused. I think the title track is one of the best on here. I think Street Dreams 2 is also the most slept on song here. Good production, good storytelling.

Logic will be one of my favourite rappers but I feel like he has hit a wall. Logic can be great but I don't feel like he really wants to. I feel like he wants to enjoy life and that's basically it lol

I liked this album. Way better than Everybody and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. But not as good as Under Pressure or T.I.T.S.

I think it is still a pretty enjoyable pop rap album to listen to like Nicki Minaj Pinkprint but somehow the r and b vibe got lost during the transition of his albums after all it is mostly produced by 6ix and I had reason to believe this vibe would come back like the No Pressure album did

To me Street Dreams 2 is amazing. This is because on his very first album ever, Psychological: Logic, The Album, is ended with the original Street dreams. The album is fantastic especially for it being a album that early in his career. It’s on soundcloud please search around for it.

Hey Anthony, normally I feel like your reviews are all over the place when you review a Logic album. This time I feel like you definitely considered the concept of each song and took it into consideration while listening. I liked this album but I definitely feel like it lacked substance from has last YS albums. I do think it was a little better than what you rated it though. You also forgot to talk about the song Iconic, I was interested to see what you thought about that song.
