Happy New Year 2022!! how i instilled a lokar kick down cable in my 1978 Dodge Warlock 727 loadflite transmission with a thermoquad carburetor. there was some fab work to make it function with the thermoquad, hope this helps you out if you in the same situation.

Hey, thermoquads are a great carburetor as long as the center plastic is not warped. The secondarys are huge!

Can you post a link to the brackets you ordered for the throttle cable/kickdown cable combo that you mounted onto your intake, you said you got it off eBay but I can’t find one like it. I have the exact same set up you have a Thermoquad carburetor with a Mopar M1 intake.

Lokars are Ok but I have done the very same thing with a factory TV cable off of any Dodge magnum w/ 500 or 518 trans. On the transmission end it is a bolt on for the 727 trans. All that is needed is a 1/4" ball fitting w/ 1/4" stud. This end of the cable bolts onto the lug near the end of the trans. Basically a bolt on at this end. On the carb end the fitting on the end of the cable is the same as that used on GM turbo 350 & 700 R4 trans. The cable itself will fit into any adapter that accepts the turbo 350 cable and the cable has a built in adjustment. The only hassle is getting a fitting on the thermo quad that will accept the cable end. I tack welded part of a Q-jet throttle shaft that would accept the cable. With a Holley or E-broc carb all that is needed is an adapter for the turbo 350. Travel of the TV lever is very close to the travel on the throttle body of the Magnum engine. I have done this on my 75 Duster & my 88 class B camper with 360 & 727 trans. Both work fine. Pick up one of the cables off of any truck or van w/ magnum engine & auto trans & do some inspection & you will see how easy it is.

@@LilRedGarage I’ve got a 77 amc hornet with the 904 trans and am thinking I’d like the cable setup better. It’s a work in progress!
@LilRedGarage

@@mikebrown4429 I agree! It’s much more adjustable, especially for future upgrades. Good luck with your project, love the old amc’s!

QUESTION WHERE CAN YOU FIND A CARB LIKE YOURS. IS THAT NOS OR NEW OR REBUILD
@gadsdenconsulting7126
@gadsdenconsulting7126 2 года назад
This might be a dumb question, but I'm no mechanic, especially with transmissions. If this has a kickdown cable, then the trans will be automatic? I put a full manual valve body on my sled puller with a B&M shifter in the cab, so I choose what gear I start in and when to shift into 3rd. So will this have a manual shifter in it for tye drag strip???
@LilRedGarage
@LilRedGarage 2 года назад
No question is a dumb question! On dodge transmissions the kick down lever on the trans has a dual purpose. It controls the line pressure in the trans as well as kicking down a gear in drive at full throttle. The trans needs to know the orientation of the throttle to give it the trans the correct pressure. Running a dodge transmission without the kick down hooked up will damage it. This lack of pressure will reduce the amount of pressure in the clutch/band packs themselves allowing them to continuously slip, kind of like driving a manual transmission with the clutch slightly depressed all the time. The clutch packs will burn up In No time. This truck still has the original column shifter, it can be shifted manually or left in drive to shift itself. When I took my lil red down the strip I actually got better times letting the trans shift itself. Now this truck has a built trans with shift kit and aftermarket kick down, and may have different results. This lokar kick down is also adjustable unlike the stock unit and you can fine tune your shift points. Hope this helped!

Originally it had a rod linkage, once you change carburetor or intake it no longer works.

Another step closer, how about a rundown on your engine, is it a stroker?
@LilRedGarage
@LilRedGarage 2 года назад
Yes it is! It’s a 1971 360 block, bored .60 over with a 4” stroke from a Mopar stroker crank, makes it like 418ci . Ported Indy Aluminum heads with Harland sharp 1.6 rockers. Mopar M1 intake (also ported and gasket matched) and a warmed up thermoquad. About 10.5-1 compression on pump gas , around 500hp and tq!
