Meet the Burlington Beadles-possibly the oldest and smallest private police force in the world. For nearly 200 years, the beadles have stood guard over one of London’s most exclusive shopping centers, preventing shoppers from committing brash acts of rudeness-such as whistling, singing and hurrying. Dressed in period clothing, head beadle Mark Lord still makes sure that people mind their manners in this most (proper) English way.

1:02 This is actually a really famous painting in a series called " A rake's progress." Go check it out! It's really good! It was painted by William Hoharth, the painter who also painted that famous Bethlam painting, titled The Madhouse. The entire series depicts a young man's fall from grace, becoming a violent and insane criminal. Although grim, the paintings have amazing composition and details- especially the last.

If there has to be a behaviour police at a shopping mall I'd rather shop elsewhere. The necessity for such an element suggests much about the overall attitude of the place....justified or not. If untrue, this isn't a nice suggestion. By definition, the existence of polite police is a rude statement about the stores' patrons.

These men are in a undisrupted line , they are geniuenly part of the oldest policing organisation in the UK , meanwhile the majority of confederate statues were erected whenever there was a confederate revival, whenever some smuck felt it was time to glorify a past that didn't happen that way, usually in responce or more accurately reaction to social and cultural developments in their own time.
