The pace was so devastating Amos was fighting to keep his form, and Rudisha... wow. I agree, Majestic is the only appropriate adjective to describe this spectacle.
1:40. That is amazing. I ran a 2:07 as a sophomore in high school and thought I was fast, lol. One hundred seconds to run eight hundred meters. That just blows my mind. Rudisha, you're the man!!!
In my experience, it's the second greatest track and field performance in history: Bob Beamon's other worldly leap in '68 still takes first place imho.
When you pull everyone behind you to new PB's, SB's, NR's, AR's ...then you know it was a special race!! This was amazing, no pacemaker and all. I think Emmanuel Korir has what it takes to break this...watch this space
This was a man who said, "If you want to beat me, come and catch me." Nobody deserved a gold medal more than Rudisha in this race. He was spectacular on this day.
This is an astonishing world record, considering the fact that the next "second" barrier had been destroyed. Sebastain Coe back in 1981 was the first man to run the 800m under 1:42, running a 1:41.73. That WR stood for 16 years until broken by Kipketer. That record stood for 13-14 years or so....until Rudisha. In this race, what I think is amazing is that the second place person tied Sebastian Coe's former WR (1:41.73). I wonder what Coe thought when he saw this race. It's not that often that second place either ties an old WR or even betters it.
I'm hazarding a guess but I reckon that there would be many events in which 2nd place ties or betters a world record from the early 1980s. Eg the first 5 across the line in the 100m sprint in London were faster than the 1983 WR. Sixth place was 1/100 of a second behind.
daveycard I remember when hitcham el g broke the mile record where the youngster in 2nd place also beat the previous record. Also when him and lagat both ran 3:26.1 and 3:26.2 respectively in the same1500m race. What about bolt running 9:58 and second placed tyson gay running 9.69 or 9.71 whilst looking as if he was miles behind (bare in mind that asafa powell's 9.77 WR was only a few years before and Usain bolt had ran 9.69 in beijing the previous year)
Coe rated this as the performance of the games, not just of the athletics campaign. He called it the "most extraordinary piece of running he had ever seen".
Thats because Coe set his world record on drugs, he knew just how amazing a feat Rudisha had accomplished. Coe was on a cocktail of drugs, research the 1980 and 1984 chemical games, the guy is as dishonest as Lance Armstrong, it wouldnt surprise me one bit if Coe had been a part of destroying the test samples in the chemical Olympics. He shouldnt be in charge of anything.
Absolutely LOVED this video. I didn't think I would. I've watched this race 100 times with different commentators. But I loved the no talking, and never realized how much the crowd cheered throughout the entire race. It was as though they new history was going to be made that day.
Hey ... a "2:14" for 800 meters is really not too shabby; you gotta be moving pretty good to run that; that's two 67-second quarters; you don't realize how fast that is till you try to run it yourself!!!!!

dude, let me tell you something. to run on that level is something no one can buy...it's achieved through years of hard work and dedication...have some respect.
its good for a neighborhood level -compare yourself to the people in your class , if you are the best compare to the highschool , if you are the best compare to the city , if you are the best compare to the state .... keep going like that to know how good your time is
He hasn't been caught but at any rate, we tend to be accusatory of the best runners, for several reasons, one of which is because the higher the level reached the more likely they are to be tested. We could have performances at the College level or even highschool level that could be enhanced in one way or another but they are far less likely to be caught since they are less likely to be tested. At any rate I cannot blame them even if they are. The pressure and motivation to get every possible edge, all the while suspecting others competing against you are doing just that.
I only ran 1:50 Good news is my college record still stands 36 years later. Having that record helped get me through a lot of low times ( God mainly got me through😊)
Great friggin video! I like it better than the broadcast footage. You can see him drag the others through the race to great individual finishes. Rudisha is such a freak! Look at him. Stride length and frequency! Unbelievable! He is a big man too. Kenyans just are not built like him. He is an anomaly.
If any of today's runners are going to break 1:40, Rudisha is the most likely to do it. He's amazing and still quite young. Perhaps it will happen in Rio.
best. vid ever ihm a kenyan and ihm proud of rudisha our countries thee best at these types of things cx i hope it helps me win 100m 200m 400m 1500m long jump hurdling and 800m and relays xD i root for rudisha cx
Any distance trained for and competed to the best of one's ability is for that person "the hardest race". I am long distance runner and used to think my races were the hardest. They are ALL the hardest. I tried all the track events and the one I hated the most was the MILE. It completely scorched my throat. The 20 minutes after the mile race were far worse than the race itself. Therefore the mile for me is THE worst and most difficult race. Looks like I just totally contradicted myself there...oh well.
400m is the killer. My event, but I went longer. It just kills you. The top guys just run flat out for two laps. Even if you were given the body most guys couldn't take the pain.
Actually the white guy was 5th lol in 2004 a russian won it, and the olympics before tjat a guy named niles did. Rudishas a beast because he's talented and trains hard not because he's simply african
but if you keep running , you will understand how much can you improve ,specially in this race , when you need strenght in your legs more than anywhere else in your body ...
I think he is from a different tribe to the distance runners ie not a Kalenjin living in the high mountains. He probably wouldn be great at cross country more of a 400 guy that stepped up.
Bill Montgomery: Your times are similar to mine from high school. But I improved in college and more so after. 55 and still running, though plenty slower now. The point is, keep going for the love and health of it. What better addiction could one ask for?
@@runcaz7802 your comment touches me. My dad is 55 and can't keep up with me when we run and I'm not even a good runner. I must treasure my youth to do as much sports as I can
