The actual race (starts at 1:10) and after reaction from Michael Johnson etc on this stunning stunning run!!! Plus short trackside talk with Usain Bolt.
Love Michael’s line ‘the person who will break those records, probably hasn’t been born yet’. Imagine being that much of a sprinting legend. Or any kind of legend. No one on this planet is better than me. Mind blowing achievements.
Has there ever been a track star that got so much respect all over the world from every nation? When have you ever seen an athlete get roars like that from people who aren't the athletes countryman? When Bolt runs the whole world wants him to win, that's how special he is
You are right Jamie, I'm yet to meet the person who has bad things to say about the guy.. Much respect from Ireland 🇮🇪 to the Jamaican 🇯🇲 and in fact world 🗺 legend
@Joe Bloggs I know how you feel bro, to have this guy so popular & you're only a hater in RU-vid maybe still in your mom's basement, I might have done the same to get attention too, if I were a basement person .
More like Gatlin had perseverance, Blake had talent (and strength), Gay had pure speed. You're right about Bolt though-pure freak of nature. So obviously different to anybody before or since
Bolt was very special. Athletes like him only come along maybe every 50 years or so. Bolt‘s performances were Beamonesque in both the 100m and the 200m. That’s about as high praise as it gets. Beamon is still ranked #2 all-time in the LJ more than 50 years later! We might see the same situation for Bolt in not one, but two events!!
tbh it wasnt a good race since he rushed the first 100m with a 9.92(the only ever to do a sub 10 seconds 100m on 200m race) meaning his next 100m wasn't as fast as he was capable of. with a better race distribution he probably would have got closer to a 19.10 or below
In 9 seasons from 2008 to 2016, Usain Bolt was the undisputed and untouchable ruler of the sprint disciplines. At 3 Olympic Games and 4 World Championships that took place during that period, he won 6 gold medals in 100 m, 7 gold medals in 200 m, 7 gold medals in 4 x 100 m - a total of 20 gold medals, he is the owner of the current incredible world records in 100 m, 200 m and 4 x 100 m, he broke other people's and his own world records 6 times - achievements that no one has ever had and I doubt that anyone will ever have in the future. Usain Bolt is simply the greatest and best athlete of all time.
Yes, that's a very good point. It takes a person of real humility to see your own record broken and then praise the person who did it, while being sincere about it. While Bolt is clearly a phenomenon, I still rate Johnson's 19.32 as the most amazing thing I've ever seen.
@Andre's Sodoval I wouldnt go that far. Yohan Blake has run 19.26. For the 200M..It might take 25 years. But some SUPREME athelete will come along. And put it all together one day.
It’s probably safe for another decade at least. Possibly much longer. Winning time for the 200 in Tokyo 2020 was 19.62 and the fastest time this year so far is 19.52. And that’s on faster surfaces and with souped up shoe tech, and still over 0.3 secs off Bolt’s record. Ridiculous.
10 years gone, and nobody close. Nobody even on the horizon. Guys winning championships in 9.8 and 19.8. It’s going to be a while. Lyles is fast, but this is on another level.
Dude people dont even really get close to Michael Johnson’s record for at least 5-10 years and Bolts record is way below that. I wont even be alive when people BEGIN to appreciate just how crazy Bolts records are its insane.
@@chelseafcrocks82 😹😹 you are delusional if you think that Athletes in there prime can’t even run that but some kid that no one knows about can?? Ridiculous 😂
@@omarsingh4497 I'm saying there's all sorts of people in every corner of the earth without access to a training program. People are capable of incredible things.
I mean, the yanks must have known that unless he broke his fucking leg, they stood the chance of a snowball in hell. And still they were disappointed? Entitled and delusional.
I bet an American (Justin Gatlin) takes both the 100 and 200 in the world championships this year. For the past year Jamaicans have been nowhere to be found
@@Mytowerisaneiffel --great mechanics for his body type. Sprinting is about applying great force to the ground combined with the correct cadence. No one in history has applied more force to the ground then Bolt.
@@thesauce669no, they are correct. When bolt runs he wastes a lot of energy with his upper body movement due to his mild scoliosis. So his running for wasn't the best, which just makes this even more incredible
It's not even the fact that he was tired that amazes me the most. Tired can be overcome for a short time by adrenaline. The fact that his technique really wasn't very good for most of this race and still he set a world record is just insane.
that's what blows me away about this though, he beat Michael Johnson's record by 2 hundredths, and it had been standing about forever. Then next year he knocks a tenth off it? just crazy.
@@kumaflamewar6524 MJs record was also heavily attributed to a huge tail wind that lowered his time by 0.3-0.4. There is no doubt that in his prime, had he had extremely ideal conditions, Bolt could have hit the 18 second bracket.
@@IPIRIEY I mean the estimated time in The 2008 100m is what, a 9.4X if Bolt weren't beating his chest? The man is a freak 😂. (That said I'm glad he celebrated because that moment was so real, no leaning just pure athleticism and swagger)
@@kumaflamewar6524 Nah, splits show he was on track for another 9.63 actually, it just looked way faster because he didn't have the same level of competition behind him as he did in Berlin 2009. Agree that the visual of that race is more iconic the way he did it chest thumping, even more than Ben Johnson's raised arm a step or two before the line at Seoul was.
I WATCH MICHAEL JOHNSON 19.32 AND SAID TO MYSELF THIS WAS UNBELIEVABLE OVER 20 YRS AGO, AND TO HAVE HEARD THE MAN HIMSELF MICHAEL JOHNSON SAYING THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE AND SPELL BOUNDED SAYS A LOT!!
The white guy is already a winner to begin with, hes already a world class runner and one of the fastest in the world, the very fact hes gotten this far and has gone to the olympics is testament to this, a color of skin gives no man credit nor does it make him deserve more recognition
This was actually one of the best starts bolt has ever had. His first 60m in this race was 6.31 I believe, faster than the 60m wr held by Christian Coleman at 6.34
Bolt reminds me of Muhammad Ali. There's a playful quality to both charismatic personalities.. These are two unique, once in a lifetime athletes who transcend their sports.
@@finalbossnomore3884 now thats just disrespectful... Ali is probably the most reccognizable sports figure ever. Greatest sportsman of 20th C according to Time. Only heavyweight champ to regain his title twice. Grew up and competed in an era that was genuinely racist. Cast aside by his country for refusing to kill vietnamese. And also an olympic gold medallist, if thats why you revere bolt. No one can claim greatness quite like the greatest.
@@finalbossnomore3884 UM.... who was the 230lb monster trying to kill bolt the entire time? Slow down there buddy. Bolt ran around a track with no one trying to impede his progress. That doen't compare to boxing AT ALL.
@TheDendra7 yeah, whatever say...pure facts eh? You folks were winning everything when the black man couldn't compete or was robbed blind. So, now tbe gate is opened for the best, not the palest we win everything. Juiced...Joker.😅
@@valerie_dyeah, yeah white man facts...you folks make up stuff just to make yourselves look and feel good. U can't accept truth because for centuries you were lied to and told you were better... Yeah, only when we weren't allowed to compete.
Man, every time I see Bolt run it reminds me of how I felt when he did it live! This is the greatest track and field athlete to ever live! His records will NEVER be broken I believe!
Usain Bolt has been an outstanding representative for track & field. Nothing is better for the sport than the world records being held by someone who's remained clean throughout their career
I watch Usain run is first race and I told my kid's that he is going to be a star, he grow up to be a grate man God bless and keep him in whatever he does.
What is crazy is he looked like he was walking the last 10-15 yards. It was like a cakewalk for him. He made the other guys look like kids running on the playground. Insane speed!
Watching this still sends shivers down my spine. I remember watching this live. That ultra silenced crowd getting louder and louder as the race went on. Brilliant!
Americans will never dominate in sprinting again for 2 main reasons. 1) NFL and 2) NBA. If Usain Bolt were born in Texas or Florida he would be 30 pounds heavier and a wide out in the NFL. Sprinting is Jamaica's sport and Usain is a phenom.
Quit smoking that crack. Granted Usain is a bad boy, but what make Bolt deadly is because he's "Tall" (6'5") & fast". If Blake was anywhere near 6'2" maybe 6'3", I bet we would be talking about him instead. As for us Americans, we on Spring Break, got to let other people enjoy the spotlight for a change. Dont worry we'll be back. Sometime you have to fall off to fuel the fire again.
Ebony Scythe Just because someone is taller does not mean that they are faster by ANY means. Yes, they may take longer strides, but they take heavier strides because their legs are much heavier and denser. Also, they suffer from a slower start, except for Usain, but even then he doesn't even get away that quickly, especially in the London 2012 Olympics at 100m. And if Blake was more muscular we would be talking about him instead, because he could just take powerful but shorter strides, basically allowing him to beat Bolt. Look at Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce for an example.
Family do you just want to fucking argue?. I didnt say being tall makes you fast, I said what made Bolt the bad boy he is, is because he's Tall & Fast.
reporter: " does anybody else have chances tonight? " MJ: " No, they cant. Comletely different athlete, completely different level, never seen one like him, no one out there can compete. Its just not possible."
Well, that comment was really stupid.. There are millions of kids under 10 e.g. and we have no idea how they will perform when they have reached puberty. It implies that he both can read the future and keep track of every single fucking kid in the world. See how stupid that is?
BadTrip I will take Johnson verdict over yours anytime... A Champion understands the sport more than mere on looker like you... MJ was right, "the person that will break the record is yet to be born". And it is 10 years already!!! Open-minded MJ...
@@azynkron It's not really a stupid comment at all, simply an educated guess. Michael Johnson himself was the world record holder in the 200m from 1996 to 2008, it took over a decade for anybody to beat his time. To my knowledge, since 1996 only 2 people have run the distance quicker than Johnson did in Atlanta; Bolt has done it at least twice, possibly 3 or 4 times and Yohann Blake has gone sub 19:30 once, (I think he did a 19:26 run). That's how rare runs of this speed are; even the greatest athletes can only manage a few in their careers; for it to happen conditions, preparation etc have to be just right. (Unless you're Bolt who could run sub 19:40 for fun). It took 12 years for anybody to emerge who could beat Johnson's 1996 time until Bolt did so in his early 20s. Bolt's run here shattered Johnson's record and the only person to come close to that since has not been able to post a comparable time for years (and was defeated by Bolt in all major competitions). It's now been 11 years and counting since this run and nobody is currently challenging it.
For me, this is probably the most perfect sprint race I've ever seen, even more than the 100m. The bend he runs may never be seen again, it's just a dream. The fact he simply kept moving away from them was staggering, and those guys were almost all sub-20 seconds! Given he'd already smashed his own 100m record beforehand, this was even better. 200m used to be my race at college, so maybe I'm biased, but just great to watch. Just wonderful. As Steve Cram said "nineteen-point-two seconds, you've got to be kidding me!", and even then it became 19.19. Thank you for the fantastic memories, Usain Bolt.
I like the part where Michael Johnson comments about Bolt running without technique. He must be a natural talent like has never been seen before. Amazing.
Have to politely disagree with that. he's a world class athlete, the greatest SPRINTER ever, but not the greatest athlete, we'd need to see how he'd do in few more events, and different ones for us to make that declaration, the best athlete currently is Ashton Eaton, and he's probably the best athlete ever at this point.
Incredibly inspiring -- Bolt's performance so far beyond belief, the other finalists still incredibly fast, and Michael Johnson's praise and admiration for the guy that had just taken his incredible record.
Bolt wasn't racing against the other runners on the track, he was racing against the future sprinters, "Top this, kids!!" Let's see how long the record will stand. Maybe not in my life time the day comes.
They test Usain Bolt all the time and he does not dope, he stated in a interview that he only takes over the counter vitamins. He has been running low 20s from teenage years so for all you people accusing him of doping, you need to actually watch Usain's story because it's stupid how you could think he's doping.
Bolt is the most electrifying athlete I've witnessed in my lifetime. I'm glad I got to watch so many of his races, live as they were happening, watching track & field history being made. There wont be another sprinter like him for a generation to come.
Devon Cummings He's juiced out of his mind, but they ALL are so he's legit, but don't make stupid statements like that... Imagine if this sport & every other were actually clean.... wouldn't that be something special.... Carl Lewis was juiced & every athlete since has been as well track & field has become a joke...
+Julian Antonini Just the part that he shows. He parties alot; we see it on Jamaican TV or if you visit a club in Kingston Jamaica you'll probably see him (quite a few times). But that's what makes him Bolt. It's just his personality to party, but that doesn't say he isn't "really focused" cause he is. Work in the day, have fun at night. Natural for people.
Michael Johnson falling into the same trap almost everyone does, expecting better and better performances to come. I've lost count of the number of times I've heard people say: "they'll improve and produce much more in the future" and sooooo many times that never happened. We need to live in the here and now, appreciate great performances, and stop letting our imaginations run away with us. I'm a football (soccer) fan, and every time I hear someone say about an 18-23 year old that they "haven't reached their peak yet, imagine how good they'll be when they're 28," I wanna tear out my hair! It doesn't work like that. You're good when you're good, that's it; there's no magic age that guarantees peak performance. Everyone's body is different, some will peak at 17, others at 35.
