Spencer, you are possibly the best informed and level headed American visitor to the UK I've seen on RU-vid, without a shadow of a doubt one of them. A joy to watch.

"SB Centaur is a wooden Thames sailing barge, built in Harwich, Essex, England in 1895. She was used to carry various cargoes, mainly grain, for the next 60 years. During the First World War she carried food and coal to the French Channel ports. During the Second World War Centaur was damaged when sailing to assist with the Dunkirk Evacuation. She did war work for the duration of the conflict. In 1945 she returned to the grain trade until 1955, when she was derigged. Between 1955 and 1966 she was used as a lighter until bought in 1966 by Richard Duke to re-rig as a charter barge. She was sold in 1973 to the charity Thames Barge Sailing Club (now the Thames Sailing Barge Trust). Restored between 1984 and 1993, and further in 2013, she now berths at Hythe Quay, Maldon."

Hi Spencer You were lucky to see a genuine Thames Sailing Barge travelling under Tower bridge. There are only 30 left of these historic boats.They were used to transport cargo from ships to the wharves along the banks of the rivers in the de- veloping ports of London and Rochester.

This set of vids represents a fresh take on the same old repeats from other US tourists but off the tourist trail. Very informative and entertaining immersion into Brit culture.

Last time I was back in the UK was over Christmas and honestly, I had always had a rather dim view on Wetherspoons and the type of all day drinkers it attracts with cheap booze... but for the first time in my life, and thanks to a 7 pound full English breakfast virtually every day, I am now a fan. Cheap and cheerful. You can't beat it!

Tourism done right! Did your research and managing to have a great time with a limited budget and it pays off! Just today I saw a post from Henry Winkler (The Fonz) about being properly ripped off by one of those ratty rickshaw riders in London. Took them round in circles and charged them $170 to travel just a few streets away!

I used to busk on Brick Lane, and near the end of the day, all the food stalls would sell off street food half price, which I used to get with my busking money, sit and drink a beer and watch the world go by. Happy memories of the east end - I even saw Gilbert and George one day

London isn’t quite like New York City. Sure, they’re both the only two Alpha++ cities in the world, but London has 46% green space (vs 11% for NYC) and over 2,000 years of history. In fact London is greenest capital city in the world. It has so much open space and trees that it officially classes as a forest - something which you didn’t experience on your trip, unfortunately.

As others have said, with your flat cap, you’re sure blending in sir.

I always take visitors to Spitalfields and Brick lane markets . You should have visited Greenwich . It has a great deer park with fab views over the city .

You do know we Brits travel right. My 1st Winston Cup race was won by Dale Earnhardt, awesome bill from dawsonville & others were in the race. I’ve been to Michigan International Speedway & Daytona more than once.

Another brilliant blog. I lived in London years ago and now I'm about 40 miles away I love to jump on a train and just spend the day there, people watching, wandering round parks and markets and just taking it all in. There's always something new (and not all of it bad!) Glasgow's going to be great. Very walkable city.

I keep telling tourists to take what is now the Uber boat rather than tourist boats, they're massively cheaper, frankly just as good and past the Pool of London they open up the taps on them which is cool too. You used to be able to sit out the back, not sure if you still can, which on a hot day was super nice.

You’d do well to find a British home without a half inched (pinched) pint glass in the kitchen cupboard. Well done that man. He’s a proper tea leaf in the making! 😂😂 Glad you enjoyed your time. Man, that was a quick and overloading visit ! I lived in London for 4 years, and I never got bored. Theres a huge amount of stuff you never got a chance to see, Camden and Portobello markets are so much more Indie and cool than spitalfields and Borough, but they are okay too. They are small by comparison to Camden and Portobello. The shard, the walkie Talkie, and 22 Bishopsgate are all huge skyscrapers with observation decks at the top with incredible views. Harrods, Fortnum and Mason, Jermyn Street and Regents street are all amazing shopping for guys. The huge galleries, the Tate, The British Museum, the Giant Natural History Museum... the gardens... Regents Park, London Zoo... Trafalgar Square... the Southbank walk... Canary Wharf... Covent Garden and Seven Sisters... Theres just too much to mention. I hope you come back for a longer stay in the warmer weather. You're always welcome man.

As well as the uber boat London Bus route 12 between Oxford Circus and Lambeth is a cheap easy to see stuff OR try Bus route 12 Oxford Circus to Westminster (see Houses of Parliament + Westminster Abbey) Bus Route 11 Westminster to Victoria (see Buckingham Palace and the Royal Mews) Tube circle and district Victoria to Hammersmith then take the Bus route 9 Hammersmith to Charing Cross and walk to Covent Garden.

All the food and drink you can take, but I bet you walked off the calories and go home lighter. 😂

8:17. Battersea Power Station. Explored it when it was abandoned. Visited it when it became a shopping centre! I confused one of the staff when they boasted I could get some photos of the B side Control Room if I wanted; and I said “wouldn’t be the first time”. I love how much you’re enjoying it here and have gone so much further into seeing things than just London.
