I never watched Taxi as it went over my head as a kid but I knew it had to be a good show...just listen to the theme song. I loved it then as I do now. Man 1978, one year after Star Wars...all my grandparents were alive, biking, playing football in the street, open hydrants on hot days waiting for the ice cream truck. I had to do a book report in the fall of 78, so I did it on a Hardy Boys book the Vampire Trail. Great memories.

1978 in the the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota: KMSP-TV 9 was in its final year as an ABC affiliate, the station will continue to operate as an independent in 1979 as they will no longer be "The One." KSTP-TV 5 will be in its final year as an NBC affiliate, since they announced that they will be with ABC in 1979. The "groovy 5" logo (which is still used today in one form or another, started being used alongside NBC's peacock logo in 1969) WTCN-TV (now KARE) 11 will become the Twin Cities' NBC affiliate in 1979 after spending the previous eight years as an independent station.

Thanks for the info. The 78-79 season was a huge blockbuster for ABC. a lot of memorable programs on the network that fall. Its just a shame that they couldnt come up with a better jingle. "Were the one" sounded montonous and having the stars sing together, as nice as it looked on paper seemed cheesy and forced. The previous "Still the one" (which used no celebrities ) was perfect. However, when you're #1 you can get away with (nearly) anything, no matter how corny.

I was 12 in 1978. ABC's dumb shows, Disco music and Carter in the Oval Office made for horrible times in the US then. Thankfully, "Van Halen" was released in 1978 making 1978 a bit happier and putting the nail in the coffin of Disco. RIP Edward
They would show the upcoming Fall TV shows promo sometime during September, and I think they usually ran throughout the month. I remember seeing one of these just before the evening news in the 70s.
