If you missed the Box to Bench (part 1) of the Diana Airguns Model 48 review I strongly suggest that you go check that one out first.
In this video I take the Model 48 out for some longer distance target shooting, at 30, 45 and 55 yards, but with a twist. OK, maybe not a twist, but this time I add a scope. The @ElementOptics Helix, in 6-24x50 SFP trim seemed like the perfect fit once I learned that Diana is their distributor in Germany.
My first suspicion that the Model 48 was more precise than I could shoot it with open sights was 100% correct. This rifle can hold groups at much longer distances than I can see clearly enough without magnification. Watch and see.
The Helix is a solid scope and I have no concerns about mounting it on a springer, but Diana makes a Zero Recoil Mount, so I thought I might as well check that out too. You'll see that in the video. It does what it says.
I've been shooting the Model 48 almost daily for about 6 weeks and I've only had one thing fall short of perfection. And it wasn't the airgun's fault. Keen eyed observers will notice in the edit of the 55 yard targets a "flier" appear between shots 4 and 5. I had a pellet fall out of the breech while loading. As a result I dry fired, and when I figured out what happened instead of discarding it (stupid) I decided to shoot it, and it predictably was way off target. The pellet was obviously out of specification as it was loose the second time I loaded it. Stupid choice, but you deserve the truth about it. Especially if you've bothered to read this far into the description.
The Model 48 is an awesome performer and would be an easy recommendation for anyone looking into a spring powered airgun.
I am ecstatic to announce a new channel partner, Diana Airguns of Germany, to the Wisconsin AirGunners family. Expect to see more content from Diana on the channel, and if there is something specific from their catalog that you’d like to see, let us know in the comments and I will see what I can do.
