Tears in my eyes!!! I feel very sorry for those whose comments are more concerned with accuracy to history, "cheesy" acting etc. I believe Mr. Newton found being in this series one of his most joyful acting experiences. Not everything we do in life needs to be "serious."

Oh the historians would have a field day with this episode. I don’t think the Santa mythos had evolved sufficiently by the 1700s to resemble the more modern character we all know. But it’s better to ignore it and enjoy this show for the fun and heartwarming serial it is. The classic “X” saves Christmas mixed with a classic “X” saves Orphans story. But in this case it’s the pirate Long John Silver and his Motley Crew save Christmas for some Orphans. Cliche but still a fun story that makes me smile. I happen to enjoy stories like this. Thank you so very much PizzaFlix for uploading this series. I hope you’re able to find the rest of the episodes. And if you happen to read this message and be watching this video around Christmas time, Merry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year.
Simple kindness is worth more than all the jewels within the crown of the greatest of kings; and to deny the smallest of smiles to any child must be the greatest of transgressions in the sight of both man and God.
Is it a technicolour late sixties Disneyland? O cos it's fabulous! I remember seeing this star, Robert Newton in a film as this buccaneer, but how did I miss this gem as a tv series?!
This was filmed in Australia in 1954 for British and American television since Australia's was not up and running yet. Newton, Connie Gilchrist as Purity and Kit Taylor as Jim Hawkins repeated their roles from the 1954 Australian color film Long John Silver, aka Return to Treasure Island. Don't confuse this with another 1954 film also titled Return to Treasure Island with Tab Hunter. This ran on US tv in 1956., 26 episodes were filmed. Newton died of a heart attack in Hollywood before this aired in most markets
Australia actually did have TV prior to 1956. The first licenced TV channel was in Brisbane, 4CM TV, went to air in 1934. A lot of experimental licences were issued, but all were switched off in 1939 due to national security concerns.
There are about ~ 30 episodes; but for some reason there are only about half that many on this site. And of all the swashbuckling and treasure hunting, - it's this one which is my favorite of all episodes. I love romance and heart-break. Sometimes it feels so good when you're hurting.
Made long before my time. I must admit something that will probably sound rather odd; it's seeing people totally full-of-life going about their lives, laughing, wishing, dreaming, and crying, ages before I even existed. Weird, it's like, how could that have been happening, in any world where I had no mind to experience it ? It's just so totally weird in some way I'm just unable to explain. I know, very strange. But this is just one more reason that has always been a thought of mine, - I don't think that greater Magic exists anywhere, like it does within the mind of a child.
