Loved Lyman, he was just as odd as the others and he stood out. He was even the original owner of odie so he’s kinda important. Wish we can see more of him
Fun fact: Lyman appears on Survival of the Fattest as a premium character, which had a mission that iirc said he went to the store and then returned only to find out 30+ years had magically gone by.
i miss Lyman appearing in the comics. as a kid, i thought he was a little weird, but i enjoyed seeing him in the published books of the 80s strips i used to read that my dad had collected. it was nice seeing him there. i think Lyman's disappearance factors into why Jon seems like such a nut now in the more modern strips. besides Liz and Garfield, he doesn't appear to have anyone to hang out with, and that's gotta be pretty bad for Jon's mental health, poor guy. i personally hope Lyman returns one day, it'd be nice to see him back, even if it's just for a little bit. i think i just need closure other than that special of The Garfield Show because that is _obviously_ not Lyman, that's an impostor!
Lyman (Or at least a character that looks like Lyman) also appeared in the Orson's Farm section of the former Professor Garfield website. He appears in Orson's mud puddle from what I remember.
It's amazing how much my post about my copy of the book has blown up. XD Yeah, those are snapshots of my copy that's been circulating that I put on a post on Tumblr. The poor thing is falling apart because the binding was just terrible and I used to read it all the time as a kid, so most of the pages are all taped together shoddily. The book's gotta be over two decades old now. XD
Wow didn’t know Nick got rid of the Garfield site, also I remember seeing “Lyman” there but I don’t think that was actually him as there’s been characters in Garfield who look similar to him
Lyman was good but he wasn't needed. But I think they could of came up with something for him being gone. Something where he could not bring Odie. It is hard to imagine now but Odie originally didn't belong to Jon. He was Lyman 's pet. Odie could still be used as someone who interacted with Garfield. Now Lyman really isn't needed. As Jon is with Iiz. I think though in my opinion his character should of left with meaning instead of completely forgotten. And besides Garfield's 10th birthday he was never mentioned again. That made it seem like something horrible happened to him. And when it came out he was in the basement. That was a little too dark for me. And very dark for Garfield.
I think they should bring Lyman back. The concept being that Lyman joined the military and couldn't take Odie with him. Since Lyman's last name is never revealed and Liz never introduced Jon to her family, and it is never revealed whether or not Liz has any siblings, perhaps they could have it that Lyman is Liz's older brother and Jon doesn't know it.
number 15... garfeilds scary scavcter hunttt the last thing u want to find in this houseee is lyman in chainnsssss s thennnn scary monsters in the houseeeeee then jon is scared outsideeeeeeee
Creative artist types can get away with having a ponytail haircut, a la Jim Davis. I researched Lyman just to see how the mustache worked on screen, bc as other commentators have mentioned, Lyman is lowkey terrifying.
